Digitization Projects in the National Libraries of Latvia and Germany. Problems of Digitization and the Requirements of Commemorative Culture

The topic of this bachelor thesis is comparison of the National libraries of Latvia and Germany with focus on digitizing and commemorative culture. Digitizing-projects in the National libraries of Latvia and Germany in general and focused on commemorative culture are researched and compared, differences and digitizing problems are defined and compared as well. In the analysis particular emphasis is put on 2 types of commemorative culture: the constructions of victim and offender and how these are applicable to Latvia’s and Germany’s self-perception. The results show that commemorative culture is noticeable in projects of both libraries, but in Latvia it is still developing. It is emphasized that Latvia and Germany do not have only one corresponding commemorative culture construction, but that both of the two constructions are present.

Bakalaura darba tēma ir veltīta Latvijas un Vācijas Nacionālo bibliotēku digitalizācijas projektiem un atmiņas kultūras sekmēšanai. Darbā ir vispārīgi un no atmiņas kultūras aspekta pētīti digitalizācijas projekti Latvijas un Vācijas Nacionālajās bibliotēkās, kā arī secinātas atšķirības, kopīgais un ar digitalizāciju saistītās problēmas. Analīzē īpaša uzmanība ir pievērsta atmiņas kultūras apakštipiem upura un pārkāpēja atmiņu konstrukcijām un kā šis aspekts atsaucas uz Vāciju un Latviju. Pētījuma rezultāti rāda, ka atmiņas kultūras ietekme abu Nacionālo bibliotēku projektos ir būtisks faktors, bet Latvijā atmiņas kultūra ir vel attīstības stadijā. Secinājumos tiek uzsvērts, ka Latvijai un Vācijai neatbilst tikai viens no diviem kultūras atmiņas apakštipiem; tie var paralēli eksistēt vienas atmiņas kultūras ietvaros.
