Vegetasjonsendringer og økologisk tilstand i etterkant av senkningen av Haukåsvatnet i Bergen

Abstract

I 1959 ble Haukåsvatnet i Bergen senket for å vinne jordbruksland. Senkningen førte til stort sett gode jordbruksarealer, men medførte store endringer for vannmiljøet og vegetasjonen i og omkring vannet. Norge har gjennom EØS-avtalen sluttet seg til EUs vanndirektiv, og har utarbeidet en nasjonal vannforskrift som skal gjenspeile direktivets mål om god vannforvaltning. Vannforskriften legger opp til at alle vannforekomster i landet skal ha god økologisk tilstand, gjennom en helhetlig og økosystem-tilnærmet forvaltning. Haukåsvatnet har i dag moderat økologisk tilstand, og Hordaland Fylkeskommune har som mål at vannet skal oppnå god økologisk tilstand innen 2021. Formålet med denne studien har vært å kartlegge vegetasjonsendringene senkningen medførte, både for naturtypene i vann og på tilgrensede landområder. I tillegg er det blitt forsøkt å tolke den økologiske tilstanden i vannet i lys av senkningen, samt belyse hvilke faktorer som påvirker tilstanden i dag. Ved bruk av flere metoder som flybildetolkning, historiske kilder, naturtypekartlegging og vannprøvetaking, er det forsøkt å gi et bilde av hvordan naturtypene som ble berørt av senkningen fremstår i dag, samt å få et mål på dagens økologiske tilstand og ulike tilførsler. Det er også forsøkt å kartlegge kildene til de tilførsler som er målt. Resultater fra flybildetolkning og naturtypekartlegging viser en klar endring i vegetasjonen i vannet og tilgrensede landområder i etterkant av senkningen. Sumpvegetasjon har gradvis forskjøvet seg utover vannet, og tidligere åpne myrflater har grodd til med trær. Senkningen har fremskyndet den sekundære suksesjonen, både i vannet og på land. I tillegg har endringer i arealbruk bidratt til å forme landskapet slik det fremstår i dag. Senkningen har trolig bidratt til en eutrofiering av vannet, ettersom tilførte næringsstoffer fra jordbruket i etterkant ble konsentrert i en mindre vannmengde, med høyere vanntemperatur. Undervannsplantene som er kartlagt viser en dominans av eutrofieringsbegunstigede arter, og lav frekvens av arter som trives ved næringsfattige forhold. Vannmålingene viser at det fremdeles er tilførsler av ulike stoffer til vannet i dag, med verdier innenfor «moderat» og «dårlig» klassegrense for flere parametere. Med mål om god økologisk tilstand for Haukåsvatnet innen 2021, må mulige kilder til avrenning som er kartlagt i denne studien nærmere undersøkes, samt andre kilder som ikke har kommet frem. Den fremtidige forvaltningen må være helhetlig og økosystem-tilnærmet, og inkludere naturtypene og det biologiske mangfoldet som har tilknytning til vannet. Masteroppgave i geografi GEO350
