Abstract

Digitalizējot romānu audiogrāmatas formātā un izplatot to caur straumēšanas platformu “YouTube” ir iespējams to padarīt ērtāk pieejamu plašākai klausītāju auditorijai. The title of the bachelor thesis is "Audiobooks as a tool for preservation and spreading of Latvian literary heritage" and the author is Krišjānis Augusts Strazds, a 3rd year student of the study program "Multimedia Communication" of Riga Stradins University. The supervisor of the bachelor's thesis is Ieva Puzo, PhD, researcher at Riga Stradins University. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to record and produce the literary work "Uz Dzimteni" (1938) by the writer Miķelis Paulockis in audiobook format and publish it on the social media site "YouTube". Audiobooks are currently the fastest growing digital literary format and the demand for them continues to grow. There are interesting literary works in Latvia that have been out of print since they were first published and are therefore difficult to find and access. This is also the case with the novel "Uz Dzimteni". By digitizing the novel in audiobook format and distributing it via the streaming platform YouTube, it is possible to make it more accessible to a wider audience. The bachelor thesis is separated into two sections: theoretical and practical. The theoretical section is divided into three chapters and eight sub-chapters that discuss the digitalization of literature, audiobook format and usage, and the role of streaming platforms in audiobook distribution. The practical component of the thesis, as indicated in the creative concept, consists of the author recording, producing, and distributing an audiobook of the novel "Uz Dzimteni” by Miķelis Paulockis. The thesis itself spans 55 pages, with 65 scholarly references, and has two appendices. Keywords: audiobook, digitization, literature, Latvian literary heritage, audiobook production.
