Abstract

In a ley dominated crop rotation, forage is the main crop and cereals are only established when the ley is renewed. In such a case, we should put more emphasis on the ley species and especially their establishment. When ley is established in a cereal nurse crop, weeds usually are controlled with herbicides. Leys often are mixtures of grasses and clovers, and especially the clover component has proven to suffer considerably from this herbicide treatment. This thesis deals with a trial on chemical weed control in a barley nurse crop with undersown clovergrass ley. The purpose of the experiment was to investigate how chemical weed control affects the establishment of clover and the biomass yield of the nurse crop. The experiment was performed in two treatments with five repetitions each, one treatment without weed control and the other treatment with weed control, i.e., the application of a mixture of the herbicides Express and MCPA. Weed control with herbicides resulted in a decline of the clover component by 73% compared to the untreated control. On the other hand, chemical weed control increased the above ground biomass weight of the nurse crop by 8.2%. The advantages and drawbacks of chemical weed control in a cereal crop intended as a nurse crop for ley establishment should be considered. It is more important to focus on an optimum establishment of a perennial ley than to aim at maximum grain yield from the nurse crop.

I en valldominerad växtföljd är grovfoder huvudgrödan och spannmål enbart en gröda som kommer in i växtföljden när vallen förnyas. I ett sådant fall borde man sätta mer tyngdpunkt på själva vallväxterna och då speciellt deras etablering. Vid etablering av vall genom insådd i en skyddsgröda bestående av spannmål bekämpas ogräsen i regel med herbicider. Ofta ingår någon eller några klöverarter i en vallgröda och i synnerhet vallinsåddens klöverkomponent har visat sig reagera känslig på denna form av ogräsbekämpning. Detta examensarbete behandlar ett försök kring kemisk ogräsbekämpning i korn som skyddssäd för klövergräsvall. Syftet med försöket var att undersöka hur en herbicidbehandling påverkar etableringen av klöver och skyddsgrödans skördebildning. Försöket utfördes i två led med fem upprepningar var, ett led där ogräsen inte bekämpades och ett led där kemisk ogräsbekämpning utfördes med en blandning av preparaten Express och MCPA. Ogräsbekämpning med herbicider medförde en minskning av klöverandelen med 73 % jämfört med obehandlat led. Däremot ökade skyddsgrödans ovanjordiska biomassa med 8,2 % som följd av kemisk ogräsbekämpning. Man borde fundera över för och nackdelarna med kemisk ogräsbekämpning i en spannmålsgröda som tjänar som skyddsgröda för vallinsådd. Det är viktigare att fokusera på en optimal etablering av en flerårig vallgröda än att ha en maximal kärnskörd från skyddsgrödan som mål.

Nurmen perustamisvaiheessa, suojaviljan rikkakasvien torjunta torjunta-aineella katsotaan usein tarpeelliseksi, vaikka tiedetään että apila usein kärsii suuresti hoidosta. Optimaalisen perustamisen kannalta pitäisi pohtia, tarvitaanko kemiallista rikkakasvintorjuntaa aina, vai voidaanko hyväksyä hieman pienempi viljasato mutta saada hyvälaatuista nurmea, joka tuottaa hyvin. Koe osoittaa, että apilan selviytymisen kannalta tulos on negatiivinen rikkakasvintorjuntaa käytettäessä koska apilan osuus laskee lähes 75 %, verrattuna siihen jos suojaviljaa ei käsitellä torjunta aineilla.
