    This work presents a novel technique for the determination of soil moisture obtaining 2-D Soil Moisture (SM) information with a single instrument. Both the instrument and the retrieval algorithm used, which is based on inferring the reflection coefficient of the terrain by direct and forward scattering polarimetric measurements of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) Signals, are briefly described. Some preliminary results of a field campaign performed on La Pobla de Mafumet (Tarragona, Spain) are presented. This instrument and retrieval algorithm can be used for different applications, such as, an input for the irrigation algorithm (Smart-Irrigation) or forest fire prevention among others.     The SSM/SLSM (spliceosomal Smith (SM)/SM-like (LSM)) genes are the central components of the spliceosome in eukaryotes, which play an important role in regulating RNA splicing, participating in diverse biological processes. Although it has been detected in Arabidopsis and rice etc. plants, the members and significance of the SSM/SLSM gene family in wheat are still not reported. In this study, we identified the SSM/SLSM genes in wheat and its progenitors at genome-scale, where 57 SSM/SLSM genes were identified in wheat, together with 41, 17and 19 found in Triticum dicoccoides, Triticum urartu, and Aegilops tauschii. Furthermore, their phylogenetic relationship, gene structures, conserved motifs, and cis-regulatory elements were systematically analyzed. By synteny analysis, good collinearity of SSM/SLSM genes was found among bread wheat and its progenitors’ genomes, and the distribution of SMD2 genes in wheat chromosome 5A, 4B and 4D located in the 4AL-5AL-7BS chromosome model, due to the translocation. Then, the positively selected genes were further investigated based on the non-synonymous to synonymous (dN/dS) analysis of the orthologous pairs. Finally, the expression profiles of the SSM/SLSM genes were detected using RNA-seq datasets, and eight stress-responsive candidate genes were selected to validate their expression through qPCR (real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction). According to the co-expression network analysis, the correlation between the LSM7-7A gene and related genes was illustrated through Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis. Furthermore, the LSM7-7A gene was related to the Arabidopsis homologous salt tolerance gene RCY1. This investigation systematically identified the complete candidates of SSM/SLSM genes and their characters in wheat and its progenitors, and provided clues to a better understanding of their contribution during the wheat polyploidy process.

    Studies of traits related to nitrogen (N)-use efficiency (NUE) in wheat cultivars are important for breeding N-efficient cultivars. Canopy structure has a major effect on NUE, as it determines the distribution of light and N. However, the mechanism by which canopy structure affects the distribution of light and N within the canopy remains unclear. The N-efficient winter wheat varieties YM49 and ZM27 and N-inefficient winter wheat varieties XN509 and AK58 were grown in the field under two N levels. Light transmittance was enhanced, and the leaf area index and photosynthetically active radiation were lower in the N-efficient cultivar population, which was characterized by moderately sized flag leaves, a low frequency of canopy leaf curling, a low light attenuation coefficient (KL), and high plant compactness. Reductions in the amount of shade increased the distribution of light and N resources to the middle and lower layers. The photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, instant water-use efficiency, and canopy photosynthetic NUE were higher, N remobilization of the upper and middle canopy leaves was reduced, and the leaf N content was high in the N-efficient cultivars. A higher ratio of the N extinction coefficient (KN) to KL reflects the assimilation ability of the N-efficient winter wheat cultivars, resulting in improved canopy structure and distribution of light and N, higher 1000-grain weight and grain yield, and significantly increased light and NUE. An improved match between gradients of light and N in the leaf canopy promotes balanced C and N metabolism and reduces energy and nutrient losses. This should be a goal when breeding N-efficient wheat cultivars and implementing tillage regimes.

    In sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), diets are largely based on cereal or root staple crops. Together with socio-cultural change, economic and demographic growth could boost the demand for meat, with significant environmental repercussions. We model meat consumption pathways to 2050 for SSA based on several scenarios calibrated on historical demand drivers. To assess the consequent environmental impact, we adopt an environmentally-extended input-output (EEIO) framework and apply it on the EXIOBASE 3.3 hybrid tables. We find that, depending on the interplay of resources efficiency and demand growth, by 2050 the growth in meat consumption in SSA could cause a growth in greenhouse gases emissions of 1.4 [0.9–1.9] Gt CO2e/yr (~175% of current regional agriculture-related emissions), which is an extension of cropping and grazing-related land of 15 [12.5–21] · 106 km2 (one quarter of today’s global agricultural land), the consumption of an additional 36 [29–47] Gm3/yr of blue water (nearly doubling the current regional agricultural consumption), an eutrophication potential growth of 7.6 [4.9–9.5] t PO4e/yr, and the consumption of additional 0.9 [0.5–1.4] EJ/yr of fossil fuels and 49 [32–73] TWh/yr of electricity. These results suggest that—in the absence of significant improvements in the regional sectoral resource efficiency—meat demand growth in SSA is bound to become a major global sustainability challenge. In addition, we show that a partial substitution of the protein intake from the expected growth in meat consumption with plant-based alternatives carries additional significant potential for mitigating environmental impacts. The policies affecting both farming practices and dietary choices will thus have a significant impact on the SSA and global environmental flows.

    We present a comparison of point cloud generation and quality of data acquired by Zebedee (Zeb1) and Leica C10 devices which are used in the same building interior. Both sensor devices come with different practical and technical advantages. As it could be expected, these advantages come with some drawbacks. Therefore, depending on the requirements of the project, it is important to have a vision about what to expect from different sensors. In this paper, we provide a detailed analysis of the point clouds of the same room interior acquired from Zeb1 and Leica C10 sensors. First, it is visually assessed how different features appear in both the Zeb1 and Leica C10 point clouds. Next, a quantitative analysis is given by comparing local point density, local noise level and stability of local normals.Finally, a simple 3D room plan is extracted from both the Zeb1 and the Leica C10 point clouds and the lengths of constructed line segments connecting corners of the room are compared. The results show that Zeb1 is far superior in ease of data acquisition. No heavy handling, hardly no measurement planning and no point cloud registration is required from the operator. The resulting point cloud has a quality in the order of centimeters, which is fine for generating a 3D interior model of a building. Our results also clearly show that fine details of for example ornaments are invisible in the Zeb1 data. If point clouds with a quality in the order of millimeters are required, still a high-end laser scanner like the Leica C10 is required, in combination with a more sophisticated, time-consuming and elaborative data acquisition and processing approach.     Abstract. A Kalman filter-based approach for the physical retrieval of surface temperature and emissivity from SEVIRI (Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager) infrared observations has been developed and validated against in situ and satellite observations. Validation for land has been provided based on in situ observations from the two permanent stations at Evora and Gobabeb operated by Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) within the framework of EUMETSAT's Satellite Application Facility on Land Surface Analysis (LSA SAF). Sea surface retrievals have been intercompared on a broad spatial scale with equivalent satellite products (MODIS, Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, and AVHRR, Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) and ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) analyses. For surface temperature, the Kalman filter yields a root mean square accuracy of ≈ ±1.5 °C for the two land sites considered and ≈ ±1.0 °C for the sea. Comparisons with polar satellite instruments over the sea surface show nearly zero temperature bias. Over the land surface the retrieved emissivity follows the seasonal vegetation cycle and permits identification of desert sand regions using the SEVIRI channel at 8.7 μm due to the strong quartz reststrahlen bands around 8–9 μm. Considering the two validation stations, we have found that emissivity retrieved in SEVIRI channel 10.8 μm over the gravel plains of the Namibian desert is in excellent agreement with in situ observations. Over Evora, the seasonal variation of emissivity with vegetation is successfully retrieved and yields emissivity values for green and dry vegetation that are in good agreement with spectral library data. The algorithm has been applied to the SEVIRI full disk, and emissivity maps on that global scale have been physically retrieved for the first time.

    Onions (Allium cepa L.) are a medicinally and economically important vegetable species rich in sulphur compounds, polyphenols, and antioxidants. In Korea, most of the onion cultivars are of the open-pollinated, heterozygous, short duration, and early spring type, which are generally harvested in April. Precise varietal identification is crucially important to warrant the authenticity of supreme onion genotypes, which aid in affirming the genetic identity of breeding materials at both the breeders and farmers levels. A set of markers identified from the double-digest restriction-site associated DNA sequencing (ddRAD-seq) database of Allium cepa L. and involving single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were deployed for genotyping deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples extracted from seven genetically diverse onion cultivars collected in Korea and Japan. The validation process led us to designating 43 SNPs out of 48 that unequivocally identified all seven genotypes with high statistical validity (p < 0.001). Phylogenetic relationships and varietal identity among the cultivars were ascertained by Bayesian clustering and ordination analyses. Two genotypes, Singsingball and Taegeukhwang of Korean origin, showed a greater genetic distance from the five other onion cultivars. The SNP markers deployed in this study effectively authenticated the DNA fingerprints of the early spring onion cultivars utilizing a high-throughput genotyping protocol. The method exploited in this study provides an efficient pathway of verifying genetic identity of onion genotypes for their quality control. The markers developed are highly useful in the management and conservation of elite onion breeding materials at the farmers&rsquo level.

    Studies on physiological and biochemical processes in crops are highly relevant for breeders to produce hybrids with high yield. Two different maturity groups of maize hybrids were tested in this study. The research site was located at the Látókép Experimental Station of the University of Debrecen and the experiment lasted for 2 years. The examined nitrogen ranges were separated into two parts. Firstly, the effects of nitrogen fertilizer ranging from 120–300 kg ha−1 were examined, supplemented with a constant, high-level P2O5 and K2O. Secondly, the optimal ratio of N:P:K was measured. In order to monitor the health status of maize hybrids, stress indicators including the activity of ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and superoxide dismutase (SOD), the rate of lipid peroxidation (LP), and grain yield were measured. The samples were taken in five phenological stages. Variance analysis based on nitrogen fertilizer showed variation in sampling times and fertilizers on APX, LP, and SOD. Variance analysis based on NPK indicated variation in sampling times, years, and fertilizer levels on APX, LP, and SOD. Correlation analysis showed that yield correlated negatively with SOD during the use of NPK fertilizer, as the use of nitrogen fertilizer cannot make corrections to yield with SOD but phosphorus and potassium can correlate with yield, and SOD. Principal component analysis showed that NPK5 and N5 had maximum stability and effect on yield. The activity of APX had the highest value during silking, and LP was in the V14 leaf stage. The correlation and principal component analysis showed that silking and the V14 leaf stage are the most important stages for yield, thus, higher attention must be paid to these stages in the LP and the activation of APX to achieve maximum yield.

    Semantic segmentation is an important field for automatic processing of remote sensing image data. Existing algorithms based on Convolution Neural Network (CNN) have made rapid progress, especially the Fully Convolution Network (FCN). However, problems still exist when directly inputting remote sensing images to FCN because the segmentation result of FCN is not fine enough, and it lacks guidance for prior knowledge. To obtain more accurate segmentation results, this paper introduces edge information as prior knowledge into FCN to revise the segmentation results. Specifically, the Edge-FCN network is proposed in this paper, which uses the edge information detected by Holistically Nested Edge Detection (HED) network to correct the FCN segmentation results. The experiment results on ESAR dataset and GID dataset demonstrate the validity of Edge-FCN.

    Actinomycetes are an important group of bioactive hydrolytic bacteria in any ecosystem. However, the actinomycete biodiversity in tropical ecosystems, particularly in Vietnam, is still underexplored. The aim of this article is to analyze the abundance, taxonomic structure and ecophysiological features of actinomycete complexes of soils and litter in Vietnam’s protected areas. A total of 41 samples of soils, plant litter and suspended soils were collected from six of Vietnam’s national parks and nature reserves. The direct inoculation technique showed that the total abundance of actinomycetes varied from 2.0 × 104 to 1.0 × 108 CFU/g. According to the luminescent microscopy with acridine orange dye, the length of the actinomycete mycelium was as long as 1000 m/g in the litter of Xuan Son National Park. A total of 80 strains were isolated and tested for antagonistic activity against Bacillus subtilis, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans. Inoculation on Getchinson’s medium showed high cellulolytic activity. The most active strains were isolated from alluvial brown soil, plant litter and suspended soil of the Pu Hoat Nature Reserve. In these samples, actinomycetes adapted to high temperatures and low pH were found to be predominant. High-throughput sequencing of the V3–V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene and bioinformatic analysis confirmed the high taxonomic diversity and high hydrolytic activity of actinomycete complexes of the Pu Hoat Nature Reserve samples.

    This work presents a novel technique for the determination of soil moisture obtaining 2-D Soil Moisture (SM) information with a single instrument. Both the instrument and the retrieval algorithm used, which is based on inferring the reflection coefficient of the terrain by direct and forward scattering polarimetric measurements of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) Signals, are briefly described. Some preliminary results of a field campaign performed on La Pobla de Mafumet (Tarragona, Spain) are presented. This instrument and retrieval algorithm can be used for different applications, such as, an input for the irrigation algorithm (Smart-Irrigation) or forest fire prevention among others.     The SSM/SLSM (spliceosomal Smith (SM)/SM-like (LSM)) genes are the central components of the spliceosome in eukaryotes, which play an important role in regulating RNA splicing, participating in diverse biological processes. Although it has been detected in Arabidopsis and rice etc. plants, the members and significance of the SSM/SLSM gene family in wheat are still not reported. In this study, we identified the SSM/SLSM genes in wheat and its progenitors at genome-scale, where 57 SSM/SLSM genes were identified in wheat, together with 41, 17and 19 found in Triticum dicoccoides, Triticum urartu, and Aegilops tauschii. Furthermore, their phylogenetic relationship, gene structures, conserved motifs, and cis-regulatory elements were systematically analyzed. By synteny analysis, good collinearity of SSM/SLSM genes was found among bread wheat and its progenitors’ genomes, and the distribution of SMD2 genes in wheat chromosome 5A, 4B and 4D located in the 4AL-5AL-7BS chromosome model, due to the translocation. Then, the positively selected genes were further investigated based on the non-synonymous to synonymous (dN/dS) analysis of the orthologous pairs. Finally, the expression profiles of the SSM/SLSM genes were detected using RNA-seq datasets, and eight stress-responsive candidate genes were selected to validate their expression through qPCR (real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction). According to the co-expression network analysis, the correlation between the LSM7-7A gene and related genes was illustrated through Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis. Furthermore, the LSM7-7A gene was related to the Arabidopsis homologous salt tolerance gene RCY1. This investigation systematically identified the complete candidates of SSM/SLSM genes and their characters in wheat and its progenitors, and provided clues to a better understanding of their contribution during the wheat polyploidy process.

    Studies of traits related to nitrogen (N)-use efficiency (NUE) in wheat cultivars are important for breeding N-efficient cultivars. Canopy structure has a major effect on NUE, as it determines the distribution of light and N. However, the mechanism by which canopy structure affects the distribution of light and N within the canopy remains unclear. The N-efficient winter wheat varieties YM49 and ZM27 and N-inefficient winter wheat varieties XN509 and AK58 were grown in the field under two N levels. Light transmittance was enhanced, and the leaf area index and photosynthetically active radiation were lower in the N-efficient cultivar population, which was characterized by moderately sized flag leaves, a low frequency of canopy leaf curling, a low light attenuation coefficient (KL), and high plant compactness. Reductions in the amount of shade increased the distribution of light and N resources to the middle and lower layers. The photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, instant water-use efficiency, and canopy photosynthetic NUE were higher, N remobilization of the upper and middle canopy leaves was reduced, and the leaf N content was high in the N-efficient cultivars. A higher ratio of the N extinction coefficient (KN) to KL reflects the assimilation ability of the N-efficient winter wheat cultivars, resulting in improved canopy structure and distribution of light and N, higher 1000-grain weight and grain yield, and significantly increased light and NUE. An improved match between gradients of light and N in the leaf canopy promotes balanced C and N metabolism and reduces energy and nutrient losses. This should be a goal when breeding N-efficient wheat cultivars and implementing tillage regimes.

    In sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), diets are largely based on cereal or root staple crops. Together with socio-cultural change, economic and demographic growth could boost the demand for meat, with significant environmental repercussions. We model meat consumption pathways to 2050 for SSA based on several scenarios calibrated on historical demand drivers. To assess the consequent environmental impact, we adopt an environmentally-extended input-output (EEIO) framework and apply it on the EXIOBASE 3.3 hybrid tables. We find that, depending on the interplay of resources efficiency and demand growth, by 2050 the growth in meat consumption in SSA could cause a growth in greenhouse gases emissions of 1.4 [0.9–1.9] Gt CO2e/yr (~175% of current regional agriculture-related emissions), which is an extension of cropping and grazing-related land of 15 [12.5–21] · 106 km2 (one quarter of today’s global agricultural land), the consumption of an additional 36 [29–47] Gm3/yr of blue water (nearly doubling the current regional agricultural consumption), an eutrophication potential growth of 7.6 [4.9–9.5] t PO4e/yr, and the consumption of additional 0.9 [0.5–1.4] EJ/yr of fossil fuels and 49 [32–73] TWh/yr of electricity. These results suggest that—in the absence of significant improvements in the regional sectoral resource efficiency—meat demand growth in SSA is bound to become a major global sustainability challenge. In addition, we show that a partial substitution of the protein intake from the expected growth in meat consumption with plant-based alternatives carries additional significant potential for mitigating environmental impacts. The policies affecting both farming practices and dietary choices will thus have a significant impact on the SSA and global environmental flows.

    We present a comparison of point cloud generation and quality of data acquired by Zebedee (Zeb1) and Leica C10 devices which are used in the same building interior. Both sensor devices come with different practical and technical advantages. As it could be expected, these advantages come with some drawbacks. Therefore, depending on the requirements of the project, it is important to have a vision about what to expect from different sensors. In this paper, we provide a detailed analysis of the point clouds of the same room interior acquired from Zeb1 and Leica C10 sensors. First, it is visually assessed how different features appear in both the Zeb1 and Leica C10 point clouds. Next, a quantitative analysis is given by comparing local point density, local noise level and stability of local normals.Finally, a simple 3D room plan is extracted from both the Zeb1 and the Leica C10 point clouds and the lengths of constructed line segments connecting corners of the room are compared. The results show that Zeb1 is far superior in ease of data acquisition. No heavy handling, hardly no measurement planning and no point cloud registration is required from the operator. The resulting point cloud has a quality in the order of centimeters, which is fine for generating a 3D interior model of a building. Our results also clearly show that fine details of for example ornaments are invisible in the Zeb1 data. If point clouds with a quality in the order of millimeters are required, still a high-end laser scanner like the Leica C10 is required, in combination with a more sophisticated, time-consuming and elaborative data acquisition and processing approach.     Abstract. A Kalman filter-based approach for the physical retrieval of surface temperature and emissivity from SEVIRI (Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager) infrared observations has been developed and validated against in situ and satellite observations. Validation for land has been provided based on in situ observations from the two permanent stations at Evora and Gobabeb operated by Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) within the framework of EUMETSAT's Satellite Application Facility on Land Surface Analysis (LSA SAF). Sea surface retrievals have been intercompared on a broad spatial scale with equivalent satellite products (MODIS, Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, and AVHRR, Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) and ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) analyses. For surface temperature, the Kalman filter yields a root mean square accuracy of ≈ ±1.5 °C for the two land sites considered and ≈ ±1.0 °C for the sea. Comparisons with polar satellite instruments over the sea surface show nearly zero temperature bias. Over the land surface the retrieved emissivity follows the seasonal vegetation cycle and permits identification of desert sand regions using the SEVIRI channel at 8.7 μm due to the strong quartz reststrahlen bands around 8–9 μm. Considering the two validation stations, we have found that emissivity retrieved in SEVIRI channel 10.8 μm over the gravel plains of the Namibian desert is in excellent agreement with in situ observations. Over Evora, the seasonal variation of emissivity with vegetation is successfully retrieved and yields emissivity values for green and dry vegetation that are in good agreement with spectral library data. The algorithm has been applied to the SEVIRI full disk, and emissivity maps on that global scale have been physically retrieved for the first time.

    Onions (Allium cepa L.) are a medicinally and economically important vegetable species rich in sulphur compounds, polyphenols, and antioxidants. In Korea, most of the onion cultivars are of the open-pollinated, heterozygous, short duration, and early spring type, which are generally harvested in April. Precise varietal identification is crucially important to warrant the authenticity of supreme onion genotypes, which aid in affirming the genetic identity of breeding materials at both the breeders and farmers levels. A set of markers identified from the double-digest restriction-site associated DNA sequencing (ddRAD-seq) database of Allium cepa L. and involving single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were deployed for genotyping deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples extracted from seven genetically diverse onion cultivars collected in Korea and Japan. The validation process led us to designating 43 SNPs out of 48 that unequivocally identified all seven genotypes with high statistical validity (p < 0.001). Phylogenetic relationships and varietal identity among the cultivars were ascertained by Bayesian clustering and ordination analyses. Two genotypes, Singsingball and Taegeukhwang of Korean origin, showed a greater genetic distance from the five other onion cultivars. The SNP markers deployed in this study effectively authenticated the DNA fingerprints of the early spring onion cultivars utilizing a high-throughput genotyping protocol. The method exploited in this study provides an efficient pathway of verifying genetic identity of onion genotypes for their quality control. The markers developed are highly useful in the management and conservation of elite onion breeding materials at the farmers&rsquo level.

    Studies on physiological and biochemical processes in crops are highly relevant for breeders to produce hybrids with high yield. Two different maturity groups of maize hybrids were tested in this study. The research site was located at the Látókép Experimental Station of the University of Debrecen and the experiment lasted for 2 years. The examined nitrogen ranges were separated into two parts. Firstly, the effects of nitrogen fertilizer ranging from 120–300 kg ha−1 were examined, supplemented with a constant, high-level P2O5 and K2O. Secondly, the optimal ratio of N:P:K was measured. In order to monitor the health status of maize hybrids, stress indicators including the activity of ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and superoxide dismutase (SOD), the rate of lipid peroxidation (LP), and grain yield were measured. The samples were taken in five phenological stages. Variance analysis based on nitrogen fertilizer showed variation in sampling times and fertilizers on APX, LP, and SOD. Variance analysis based on NPK indicated variation in sampling times, years, and fertilizer levels on APX, LP, and SOD. Correlation analysis showed that yield correlated negatively with SOD during the use of NPK fertilizer, as the use of nitrogen fertilizer cannot make corrections to yield with SOD but phosphorus and potassium can correlate with yield, and SOD. Principal component analysis showed that NPK5 and N5 had maximum stability and effect on yield. The activity of APX had the highest value during silking, and LP was in the V14 leaf stage. The correlation and principal component analysis showed that silking and the V14 leaf stage are the most important stages for yield, thus, higher attention must be paid to these stages in the LP and the activation of APX to achieve maximum yield.

    Semantic segmentation is an important field for automatic processing of remote sensing image data. Existing algorithms based on Convolution Neural Network (CNN) have made rapid progress, especially the Fully Convolution Network (FCN). However, problems still exist when directly inputting remote sensing images to FCN because the segmentation result of FCN is not fine enough, and it lacks guidance for prior knowledge. To obtain more accurate segmentation results, this paper introduces edge information as prior knowledge into FCN to revise the segmentation results. Specifically, the Edge-FCN network is proposed in this paper, which uses the edge information detected by Holistically Nested Edge Detection (HED) network to correct the FCN segmentation results. The experiment results on ESAR dataset and GID dataset demonstrate the validity of Edge-FCN.

    Actinomycetes are an important group of bioactive hydrolytic bacteria in any ecosystem. However, the actinomycete biodiversity in tropical ecosystems, particularly in Vietnam, is still underexplored. The aim of this article is to analyze the abundance, taxonomic structure and ecophysiological features of actinomycete complexes of soils and litter in Vietnam’s protected areas. A total of 41 samples of soils, plant litter and suspended soils were collected from six of Vietnam’s national parks and nature reserves. The direct inoculation technique showed that the total abundance of actinomycetes varied from 2.0 × 104 to 1.0 × 108 CFU/g. According to the luminescent microscopy with acridine orange dye, the length of the actinomycete mycelium was as long as 1000 m/g in the litter of Xuan Son National Park. A total of 80 strains were isolated and tested for antagonistic activity against Bacillus subtilis, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans. Inoculation on Getchinson’s medium showed high cellulolytic activity. The most active strains were isolated from alluvial brown soil, plant litter and suspended soil of the Pu Hoat Nature Reserve. In these samples, actinomycetes adapted to high temperatures and low pH were found to be predominant. High-throughput sequencing of the V3–V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene and bioinformatic analysis confirmed the high taxonomic diversity and high hydrolytic activity of actinomycete complexes of the Pu Hoat Nature Reserve samples.
