    The topic of “digital transformation” is an ever-present factor for companies. Business models and all processes and systems in a company involve digitalisation. This also inevitably leads to consequences for the monitoring work carried out by Supervisory Boards in a two tier corporate governance system. The white paper describes the architecture of a digital platform for Supervisory Boards.

    This study provides an overview on the patterns and dynamics of mechanization in African agriculture over the 10 year period (2005-2014). Farm level and value chain related mechanization are considered. This study looks in to pattern of agricultural mechanization along the entire value chain (production, post-harvest, processing, transport and storage) and compares it with the annual average agricultural output over the same time period. Clusters of countries are identified by grouping countries into those that have simultaneously experienced high growth rate in agricultural machinery and also in agricultural output, including; Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Rwanda, Tanzania, Togo, and Zambia. On the opposite side of the spectrum are countries with low growth in machinery and in agricultural output, and include for instance Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Uganda, and Egypt. In general, there is a positive correlation (of 0.52) between agricultural machinery growth and agricultural output growth in Africa, which is a classical two – way relationship, not to be interpreted as a causal one.

    The COVID-19 pandemic is already affecting food systems directly through impacts on food supply and demand, and indirectly through decreases in purchasing power, the capacity to produce and distribute food grains which will strongly affect the poor and vulnerable portion of Bangladesh. Agricultural economists are concerned about the current and imminent implications of Covid- 19 on food security. The aim is to identify the current situation of food security and its impact on society that could emerge in the coming days. The study is designed on the basis of secondary information. The global survey of the food system shows Bangladesh's overall performance in ensuring food security is good but needs to be improved. The COVID-19 depression creates health risks, psychological risks, earning failure and leading normal life difficult disproportionately in the society. Food supply chain must be continued moving and the accessibility of nutritious food to the poor and vulnerable portion should be ensured through Social Safety Net, Food for Work, VGF, Money move and other social well-being net plans.

    Authors: Rita Padawangi;

    This paper examines the question: how effective is a community driven development (CDD) approach to rural water supply? Some theoretical advantages of CDD approaches include: (1) community choices are more attuned to local needs; (2) sustainable O&M is more likely; (3) social capital is built; (4) more participation yields better oversight and less corruption; and (5) communities become active partners in development, itself a worthy objective. Using quantitative and qualitative data from a water supply and sanitation project in Punjab, Pakistan, the study finds that the CDD approach, consistent with expectations, has done well in extending water supply, drainage, and sanitation coverage to the poor rural communities, and demonstrated outcomes that are only achievable through CDD—including water tariff and cultural changes. The project was also effective in promoting local participation and ownership, particularly by women's groups, and is therefore likely to have sustainable operation and maintenance (O & M). This study uncovers two dimensions of CDD in water and sanitation as means to an end: political reform, by proposing implementation strategies of decentralisation; and cultural reform, by providing an approach to break cultural barriers.

    India and Israel officially established diplomatic relations in 1992. Since then they have collaborated on a host of development issues like agriculture, space research, information Technology etc. There has also been a large component of people-to-people interaction. Both nations have a large pool of technically sound man power in health care. Yet, the strengths of their respective health care human resources are not the same. India has a certain niche in the health care field, Israel has another. The concept is to leverage the strengths of both nations and synergize them. This paper proposes institutionalizing Indo-Israeli collaboration in health care areas by opening an AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) in Israel and a Tel Aviv University (TAU) Faculty of Medicine campus in India. Both Indian and Israeli doctors and health care professionals will graduate together from both these Institutions leading to value addition for health care human resources. This paper discusses the various aspects of such collaboration.

    The study aims at thorough examination of issues related to Indian banks’ exposure to equity market. Its objective is to bring about a framework and suggest measures for increasing the direct and indirect exposure of banks to the equity market. The scope of the study also lies in evolving innovative ways of agriculture financing where risk management is an intrinsic part of lending system. There shall be focus on pre-harvest as well as post-harvest financing systems.

    This paper contributes to the literature on welfare programs by estimating the impact of a Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) on labor supply in Brazil. Unlike other CCT programs that have been studied, Bolsa Familia is a widespread program that have taken place not only in rural and isolated areas, but also in large cities. Previous findings show that this type of welfare benefit does not reduce labor supply and then does not create program dependence. However, when the program goes from isolated areas to large cities, impacts may differ. We find that the benefit actually increases the participation of households’ additional workers in rural areas. On the other hand, it reduces the participation of households’ primary worker in the formal sector in metropolitan areas. Thus the hypothesis that the program creates dependence cannot be rejected for the case of large cities.

    Authors: Rita Padawangi;
