    Microsatellite loci distributing on genome randomly act as effective genetic markers. To date, about 200 microsatellite loci were found in cervids by transferring microsatellite PCR primers derived in bovine, ovine to cervids, as well as a few loci derived directly from deer microsatellite library. These loci have been used in parentage determination, genetic diversity and population structure, population introgression, as genetic marker gestation length and wintering survivalet al. However, microsatellite loci presently found are untouchable to the demand of application. Future work should include: 1) isolating a large number of cervine microsatellite loci, 2) constructing genetic and physical maps of microsatellite loci. So that microsatelites have a strong base for advanced applications in deer.

    As the largest pool of terrestrial organic carbon, soils interact strongly with atmosphere composition, climate, and land change. Soil organic carbon dynamics in ecosystem plays a great role in global carbon cycle and global change. With development of mathematical models that simulate changes in soil organic carbon, there have been considerable advances in understanding soil organic carbon dynamics. This paper mainly reviewed the composition of soil organic matter and its influenced factors, and recommended some soil organic matter models worldwide. Based on the analyses of the developed results at home and abroad, it is suggested that future soil organic matter models should be developed toward based-process models, and not always empirical ones. The models are able to reveal their interaction between soil carbon systems, climate and land cover by technique and methods of GIS (Geographical Information System) and RS (Remote Sensing). These models should be developed at a global scale, in dynamically describing the spatial and temporal changes of soil organic matter cycle. Meanwhile, the further researches on models should be strengthen for providing theory basis and foundation in making policy of green house gas emission in China.

    Rhodiola sachalinensis growing in the different habitats, Xiaotianchi plot (altitude 1800 m), Tree line plot (altitude 2000 m) and Tianwenfeng plot (altitude 2325 m), of Changbai Moutain (northern slop) were transplanted to Harbin Experimental Forest Farm for measuring its characteristic of gas exchange. The study results indicated that the growth state and gas exchange characteristics ofRh. sachalinensis growing in different habitats varied markedly. The plants transplanted from Tianwenfeng plot had the highest values in net photosynthesis rate (Pn) and transpiration rate (Tr), those transplanted from Tree line plot shows the second, and those transplanted rom Xiaotianchi plot had the lowest values. The variance existed in transplanted plants was the same as shown in the field. From the result it can be extrapolated that the difference of Pn and Tr existed inRh. sachalinensis transplanted from different habitats is depend not only on the environmental factors, but on the variance of physiological characteristic of plant itself.

    Two-year-old seedlings ofPinus koraiensis, Pinus sylvestriformis andFraxinus mandshurica were treated in open-top chambers with elevated CO2 concentrations (700 μL·L−1, 500 μL·L−1) and ambient CO2 concentrations (350 μL·L−1) in Changbai Mountain from June to Sept. in 1999 and 2001. The net photosynthetic rate, dark respiration rate, ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxlase (RuBPcase) activity, and chlorophyll content were analyzed. The results indicated the RuBPcase activity of the three species seedlings increased at elevated CO2 concentrations. The elevated CO2 concentrations stimulated the net photosynthetic rates of three tree species exceptP. sylvestriformis grown under 500 μL·L−1 CO2 concentration. The dark respiration rates ofP. koraiensis andP. sylvestriformis increased under concentration of 700 μL·L−1 CO2, out that ofF. mandshurica decreased under both concentrations 700 μL·L−1 and 500 μL·L−1 CO2. The seedlings ofF. mandshurica decreased in chlorophyll contents at elevated CO2 concentrations.

    Peltophorum dubium seeds provided by Anhembi, SP were scarified in 98% H2SO4 for 15 min to overcome mechanical dormancy. Seeds were primed in solutions of 0.2% Captan at 10 °C and 27°C, PEG 6000 −1.0 MPa at 10°C and 27°C, 0.5 mol KNO3, 0.75 Mol KNO3, 1.0 Mol KNO3. Eight treatments including the primed seeds and nonprimed seeds, five replicates with 100 seeds for each treatment, were set to 15-cm-Petri dish with double filter paper moistened with testing solution PEG in refrigerator at 27°C. For the experiments of all the groups, osmotic potential were 0.0, −0.2, −0.4, −0.6, −0.8, −1.0, −1.2, and −1.4 MPa.P. dubium seeds were also set to water stress experiment in rolled paper with PEG solutions from 0.0 to −1.0 M Pa. Germination percentage decreased with the increase of PEG concentration. Control group had a better germination percentage than other groups. Germination hardly occurred in PEG −1.4 MPa.

    The ornamental characters, nutritious composition, edible value and medical value of thirteen kinds of major wild fruit resources in Xiaoxing’an Mountains Region were synthetically analyzed such asRosa spp.,Actinidia spp. and so on. The results showed that the wild fruit resources in this region had important garden ornamental value, edible value and medical value. A lot of good germplasm resources and honey plant resources hadn’t been effectively protected and enough utilized. The right way of appropriate arrangement and reasonable exploitation of wild fruit resources in this region should be benefit to get rid of economic crisis early in this region.

    Eco-physiological responses of seedlings of eight species,Pinus koraiensis, Picea koraiensis, Larix olgensis, Populus ussuriensis, Betula platyphylla, Tilia amurensis, Traxinus mandshurica andAcer mono from broadleaved/Korean pine forest, to elevated CO2 were studied by using open-top chambers under natural sunlight in Changbai Mountain, China in two growing seasons (1998–1999). Two concentrations of CO2 were designed: elevated CO2 (700 μmol·mol−1) and ambient CO2 (400 μmol·mol−1). The study results showed that the height growth of the tree seedlings grown at elevated CO2 increased by about 10%–40% compared to those grown at ambient CO2. And the water using efficiency of seedlings also followed the same tendency. However, the responses of seedlings in transpiration and chlorophyll content to elevated CO2 varied with tree species. The broad-leaf tree species were more sensitive to the elevated CO2 than conifer tree species. All seedlings showed a photosynthetic acclimation to long-term elevated CO2.

    The vertical distribution of the dominant genera of plant nematodes at the depth of 0–150 cm of an aquic brown soil were studied for four land use patterns, i.e., paddy field, maize field, fallow field and woodland in the Shenyang Experimental Station of Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in November of 2003. The results showed that the numbers of some dominant genera under different land uses decreased with the increase of soil depth.Helicotylenchus was most dominant genus under each land use type. Genera ofFilenchus, Psilenchus andTylenchus in paddy field occurred at the depth of 0–20 cm; whileParatylenchus in fallow field and woodland, as well asPratylenchus in maize field presented in the deeper soil layers (0–80 cm). Significant correlations between the numbers of dominant genera of plant nematodes and soil chemical properties were found in this study. The number ofHelicotylenchus under different land uses was positively correlated with C/N ratio, total C, total N, total P, alkai-N, and Olsen-P. The numbers ofFilenchus andParatylenchus in paddy field,Pratylenchus in maize field andParatylenchus in fallow field were negatively correlated with soil pH, and positively correlated with total C, total N and alkai-N. This study results showed that it is essential to sample at a certain depth according to the vertical distribution information of different genera of plant nematodes in adequately assessing the population size of plant nematodes.

    The microbial population in rotten living body ofSalix matsudana caused byTrametes suaveolens (L.) was researched. 11 bacteria species (1 species ofBacillus, 2 species ofClostridium and 8 species of non-brood-cell bacteria), 1 species ofActinomyces that belongs to Lavendulac, 8 species of fungi and 6 species ofTrichoderma were isolated from rotten trunk. The hyphae ofTrametes suaveolens mainly existed between rotten sections and discoloration sections. In over-rotten section and healthy section the fungi (Trametes suaveolens) were not isolated. The microbes that lived in the discoloration section were the most in kinds and number and they were the pioneer microbes of wood rotting. Only after they dwelled in wood and eliminated its rot-resistance, could wood-rotting fungi invade wood and caused wood-rotting.

    Microsatellite loci distributing on genome randomly act as effective genetic markers. To date, about 200 microsatellite loci were found in cervids by transferring microsatellite PCR primers derived in bovine, ovine to cervids, as well as a few loci derived directly from deer microsatellite library. These loci have been used in parentage determination, genetic diversity and population structure, population introgression, as genetic marker gestation length and wintering survivalet al. However, microsatellite loci presently found are untouchable to the demand of application. Future work should include: 1) isolating a large number of cervine microsatellite loci, 2) constructing genetic and physical maps of microsatellite loci. So that microsatelites have a strong base for advanced applications in deer.

    As the largest pool of terrestrial organic carbon, soils interact strongly with atmosphere composition, climate, and land change. Soil organic carbon dynamics in ecosystem plays a great role in global carbon cycle and global change. With development of mathematical models that simulate changes in soil organic carbon, there have been considerable advances in understanding soil organic carbon dynamics. This paper mainly reviewed the composition of soil organic matter and its influenced factors, and recommended some soil organic matter models worldwide. Based on the analyses of the developed results at home and abroad, it is suggested that future soil organic matter models should be developed toward based-process models, and not always empirical ones. The models are able to reveal their interaction between soil carbon systems, climate and land cover by technique and methods of GIS (Geographical Information System) and RS (Remote Sensing). These models should be developed at a global scale, in dynamically describing the spatial and temporal changes of soil organic matter cycle. Meanwhile, the further researches on models should be strengthen for providing theory basis and foundation in making policy of green house gas emission in China.

    Rhodiola sachalinensis growing in the different habitats, Xiaotianchi plot (altitude 1800 m), Tree line plot (altitude 2000 m) and Tianwenfeng plot (altitude 2325 m), of Changbai Moutain (northern slop) were transplanted to Harbin Experimental Forest Farm for measuring its characteristic of gas exchange. The study results indicated that the growth state and gas exchange characteristics ofRh. sachalinensis growing in different habitats varied markedly. The plants transplanted from Tianwenfeng plot had the highest values in net photosynthesis rate (Pn) and transpiration rate (Tr), those transplanted from Tree line plot shows the second, and those transplanted rom Xiaotianchi plot had the lowest values. The variance existed in transplanted plants was the same as shown in the field. From the result it can be extrapolated that the difference of Pn and Tr existed inRh. sachalinensis transplanted from different habitats is depend not only on the environmental factors, but on the variance of physiological characteristic of plant itself.

    Two-year-old seedlings ofPinus koraiensis, Pinus sylvestriformis andFraxinus mandshurica were treated in open-top chambers with elevated CO2 concentrations (700 μL·L−1, 500 μL·L−1) and ambient CO2 concentrations (350 μL·L−1) in Changbai Mountain from June to Sept. in 1999 and 2001. The net photosynthetic rate, dark respiration rate, ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxlase (RuBPcase) activity, and chlorophyll content were analyzed. The results indicated the RuBPcase activity of the three species seedlings increased at elevated CO2 concentrations. The elevated CO2 concentrations stimulated the net photosynthetic rates of three tree species exceptP. sylvestriformis grown under 500 μL·L−1 CO2 concentration. The dark respiration rates ofP. koraiensis andP. sylvestriformis increased under concentration of 700 μL·L−1 CO2, out that ofF. mandshurica decreased under both concentrations 700 μL·L−1 and 500 μL·L−1 CO2. The seedlings ofF. mandshurica decreased in chlorophyll contents at elevated CO2 concentrations.

    Peltophorum dubium seeds provided by Anhembi, SP were scarified in 98% H2SO4 for 15 min to overcome mechanical dormancy. Seeds were primed in solutions of 0.2% Captan at 10 °C and 27°C, PEG 6000 −1.0 MPa at 10°C and 27°C, 0.5 mol KNO3, 0.75 Mol KNO3, 1.0 Mol KNO3. Eight treatments including the primed seeds and nonprimed seeds, five replicates with 100 seeds for each treatment, were set to 15-cm-Petri dish with double filter paper moistened with testing solution PEG in refrigerator at 27°C. For the experiments of all the groups, osmotic potential were 0.0, −0.2, −0.4, −0.6, −0.8, −1.0, −1.2, and −1.4 MPa.P. dubium seeds were also set to water stress experiment in rolled paper with PEG solutions from 0.0 to −1.0 M Pa. Germination percentage decreased with the increase of PEG concentration. Control group had a better germination percentage than other groups. Germination hardly occurred in PEG −1.4 MPa.

    The ornamental characters, nutritious composition, edible value and medical value of thirteen kinds of major wild fruit resources in Xiaoxing’an Mountains Region were synthetically analyzed such asRosa spp.,Actinidia spp. and so on. The results showed that the wild fruit resources in this region had important garden ornamental value, edible value and medical value. A lot of good germplasm resources and honey plant resources hadn’t been effectively protected and enough utilized. The right way of appropriate arrangement and reasonable exploitation of wild fruit resources in this region should be benefit to get rid of economic crisis early in this region.

    Eco-physiological responses of seedlings of eight species,Pinus koraiensis, Picea koraiensis, Larix olgensis, Populus ussuriensis, Betula platyphylla, Tilia amurensis, Traxinus mandshurica andAcer mono from broadleaved/Korean pine forest, to elevated CO2 were studied by using open-top chambers under natural sunlight in Changbai Mountain, China in two growing seasons (1998–1999). Two concentrations of CO2 were designed: elevated CO2 (700 μmol·mol−1) and ambient CO2 (400 μmol·mol−1). The study results showed that the height growth of the tree seedlings grown at elevated CO2 increased by about 10%–40% compared to those grown at ambient CO2. And the water using efficiency of seedlings also followed the same tendency. However, the responses of seedlings in transpiration and chlorophyll content to elevated CO2 varied with tree species. The broad-leaf tree species were more sensitive to the elevated CO2 than conifer tree species. All seedlings showed a photosynthetic acclimation to long-term elevated CO2.

    The vertical distribution of the dominant genera of plant nematodes at the depth of 0–150 cm of an aquic brown soil were studied for four land use patterns, i.e., paddy field, maize field, fallow field and woodland in the Shenyang Experimental Station of Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in November of 2003. The results showed that the numbers of some dominant genera under different land uses decreased with the increase of soil depth.Helicotylenchus was most dominant genus under each land use type. Genera ofFilenchus, Psilenchus andTylenchus in paddy field occurred at the depth of 0–20 cm; whileParatylenchus in fallow field and woodland, as well asPratylenchus in maize field presented in the deeper soil layers (0–80 cm). Significant correlations between the numbers of dominant genera of plant nematodes and soil chemical properties were found in this study. The number ofHelicotylenchus under different land uses was positively correlated with C/N ratio, total C, total N, total P, alkai-N, and Olsen-P. The numbers ofFilenchus andParatylenchus in paddy field,Pratylenchus in maize field andParatylenchus in fallow field were negatively correlated with soil pH, and positively correlated with total C, total N and alkai-N. This study results showed that it is essential to sample at a certain depth according to the vertical distribution information of different genera of plant nematodes in adequately assessing the population size of plant nematodes.

    The microbial population in rotten living body ofSalix matsudana caused byTrametes suaveolens (L.) was researched. 11 bacteria species (1 species ofBacillus, 2 species ofClostridium and 8 species of non-brood-cell bacteria), 1 species ofActinomyces that belongs to Lavendulac, 8 species of fungi and 6 species ofTrichoderma were isolated from rotten trunk. The hyphae ofTrametes suaveolens mainly existed between rotten sections and discoloration sections. In over-rotten section and healthy section the fungi (Trametes suaveolens) were not isolated. The microbes that lived in the discoloration section were the most in kinds and number and they were the pioneer microbes of wood rotting. Only after they dwelled in wood and eliminated its rot-resistance, could wood-rotting fungi invade wood and caused wood-rotting.
