    Tradução de leaflet do Projeto AGFORWARD - Para satisfazer as necessidades da crescente população humana, a produção global de alimentos deveria pelo menos duplicar até ao fim deste século. No entanto, o potencial produtivo das culturas estagnou (Ray et al. 2012), esperando-se uma redução no seu rendimento em consequência das alterações climáticas (Brisson et al. 2010). O número crescente de eventos de calor precoce nas regiões temperadas está a causar cada vez mais stress térmico na fase do enchimento dos grãos, e stress hídrico no período de alongamento do caule, o que traz consequências negativas para o rendimento das culturas. Nos últimos anos, em várias regiões de Espanha, as culturas de cereal não foram colhidas devido à falta de grão nas plantas. Em consequência, os agricultores têm vindo a procurar novas práticas que mitiguem os efeitos negativos das alterações climáticas, e novas espécies e cultivares mais bem-adaptadas às novas condições climáticas.

    Tradução de leaflet do Projeto AGFORWARD - A utilização de um sistema de rastreio por GPS levou à alteração da tipologia do trabalho no processo de criação de renas, pois a manada pode ser monitorizada e seguida remotamente por computador. Isso melhora o conhecimento quanto às rotas migratórias e ao uso das áreas de pastagem, dado que os movimentos dos animais são registados pelos aparelhos de deteção. Com a ajuda do sistema de rastreio por GPS pode reduzir-se a quilometragem percorrida em veículos, e os ataques de predadores à manada podem ser detetados na sua fase inicial. Estes ataques são uma grande preocupação para os pastores Sami devido às perdas económicas que causam.

    Tradução de leaflet do projeto AGFORWARD - A realização de um diagnóstico abrangente (estudando o solo, o clima, a topografia, etc.) do potencial do local para suportar o desenvolvimento de árvores permite aos agricultores a escolha das espécies mais adequadas para plantar. Também permite a identificação das operações culturais necessárias à preparação da plantação. Este trabalho preparatório tem por objetivo eliminar os resíduos de culturas anteriores (lavoura dos restolhos), controlar as plantas espontâneas perto das árvores, para estimular uma expansão rápida e profunda do seu sistema radicular, melhorando, ao mesmo tempo, o fornecimento de água e o arejamento do solo (subsolagem), e nivelar a superfície do solo antes da plantação. Estas operações terão grande impacto no crescimento e na sobrevivência das árvores, aumentando assim a produtividade global do sistema agroflorestal.

    Tradução de leaflet do projeto AGFORWARD - O aumento na procura de carne resulta simultaneamente do aumento da população humana e do consumo de carne por pessoa. Agricultores e cientistas têm tentado reduzir os impactos ambientais adversos do gado através do aumento da eficiência da produção e da redução da sua contribuição para o consumo humano. A redução das áreas destinadas a alimentação de gado, que competem com a produção de culturas para alimentação humana direta, é uma das abordagens para reduzir estes impactos ambientais negativos e reforçar a segurança alimentar futura. As pastagens mediterrâneas, tais como as dehesas e montados, enfrentam desafios consideráveis. O pastoreio contínuo ocasiona variações sazonais acentuadas da produção herbácea e dificuldades de fornecimento de forragem suficiente ao longo do ano. Assim, a dependência de fontes externas de alimento compromete a rentabilidade de muitas explorações. O desenvolvimento de sistemas de pastoreio melhor adaptados é essencial para uma maior resiliência das dehesas e montados.

    Os sistemas agroflorestais são uma prática bem conhecida, dispersa e diversificada em Portugal. Estes sistemas incluem uma variedade de espécies, culturas e variedades locais de animais e culturas agrícolas. Na região centro e norte do país, caracterizadas por explorações de pequena dimensão, os sistemas agroflorestais foram durante muitos séculos a base de uma agricultura familiar, permitindo às famílias aumentar a diversidade dos produtos provenientes de uma pequena parcela. Na região Norte de Portugal podemos encontrar um sistema ancestral, originário da idade média, o qual se apresenta com um rápido decréscimo em área de dispersão: a vinha do enforcado.

    tradução de leaflet do projeto AGFORWARD - Desde a emergência do Homo sapiens até cerca de 200 a 300 anos, as árvores têm sido a principal fonte de energia (e de outros materiais e alimentos). Há 20,000 anos, a razão árvores/humanos era de cerca de 1,5 milhões para 1, mas atualmente caiu drasticamente para cerca de 400 para 1 (e continua a descer). Para salvar o planeta e a humanidade, necessitamos de sistemas de produção de alimentos e energia eficientes em termos de abastecimento e que, ao mesmo tempo, melhorem a qualidade e sustentabilidade da biosfera. A melhor maneira de o conseguir será revertendo o declínio desta relação entre árvores e pessoas. Idealmente, para minimizar as perdas por transmissão, a energia renovável necessária para substituir os combustíveis fósseis deve ser produzida perto de onde será usada. Este sistema deverá também ter outros benefícios e ser completamente sustentável. Todos os sistemas agroflorestais são potencialmente capazes de o fazer, mas os sistemas que integrem a produção de energia e alimentos serão os mais eficazes e sustentáveis.

    Tradução de leaflet do Projeto AGFORWARD - Na Hungria existem sistemas silvopastoris de elevado valor natural e cultural há milhares de anos. Atualmente existem 33 318 ha destes sistemas silvopastoris: 28 % em áreas protegidas e 60 % na Rede Natura 2000. Nos anos 50, 88 % das terras produtivas eram sistemas silvopastoris. Hoje em dia, a maior parte destes sistemas estão florestados e excessivamente cobertos de mato e árvores, causando sérios problemas ao nível das explorações. O restauro destes sistemas abandonados é fundamental para o desenvolvimento do valor natural e cultural da região rural, e para a rentabilidade da indústria de criação de gado. Se estas zonas forem deixadas ao abandono, podem vir a ser registadas como áreas florestais, o que proibirá a atividade silvopastoril (pastoreio e/ou limpeza para pastagem).

    A compactação do solo, quando em níveis elevados, é um processo de difícil reversão sob sistema de plantio direto (SPD), especialmente em solos argilosos. Geralmente, a sua ocorrência em áreas comerciais de grãos é descontínua e restrita a áreas com histórico de pressões associadas ao trânsito intenso de máquinas agrícolas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar as alterações nos atributos físicos de um Latossolo Vermelho distrófico de textura argilosa (450 g kg-1) promovidas por dois tipos de escarificações sítio-específico e uma convencional (aleatória), bem como seus efeitos sobre o rendimento da soja. Para isso, selecionou-se no município de Victor Graeff, na região do planalto do RS, uma lavoura de 50,6 ha manejada sob SPD por longo prazo e, recentemente, com agricultura de precisão. O clima local é subtropical Cfa, com precipitação pluvial anual oscilando entre 1.500 e 1.750 mm, temperatura média de 20 ºC e altitude de 490 m. Com base nos mapas de rendimento de três safras anteriores, a área foi subdividida em três zonas de potencial produtivo. Na zona de baixo rendimento (ZB) foram implantados os seguintes tratamentos: (a) escarificação convencional com profundidade fixa de 0,30 m (EC); (b) escarificação sítio-específico com equipamento Fox® com profundidade fixa de 0,30 m (ESEF); (c) escarificação sítio-específico com equipamento Fox® com profundidade de atuação variável (0,10 a 0,30 m), em função da resistência máxima do solo à penetração (ESEV); e (d) controle sem escarificação (SE). A zona de alto rendimento (ZA) foi usada como referência para avaliar o efeito dos tratamentos no rendimento de grãos. Os tratamentos foram implantados em faixas paralelas de 100 x 20 m, seguindo o delineamento de blocos casualizados. Avaliaram-se, em três épocas, a densidade do solo, macroporosidade, microporosidade e porosidade total nas profundidades de 0,0-0,05, 0,05-0,10, 0,10-0,15 e 0,15-0,20 m, bem como a infiltração de água no solo. Os resultados da caracterização inicial dos atributos do solo por zona de rendimento evidenciaram maior densidade do solo e menor porosidade total, na profundidade de 0,15-0,20 m, na ZB em relação à ZA. Em todos os tratamentos com escarificação mecânica, observou-se, logo após o preparo, incremento da infiltração de água em relação ao SE, que aumentou em torno de quatro vezes nos tratamentos EC e ESEV em comparação a esse controle. No entanto, o efeito da escarificação, independentemente do tipo de escarificador, foi efêmero; transcorridos sete meses, verificou-se decréscimo na infiltração de água no solo, que não diferiu do tratamento controle. Entre os escarificadores investigados, o ESEV destacou-se pela manutenção da cobertura do solo em relação ao EC e proporcionou maior rendimento de soja. Contudo, sob condições de elevada precipitação pluvial não foi observado incremento no rendimento da soja nos tratamentos com escarificação mecânica, em relação ao tratamento controle (SE). Soil compaction at high intensity degrees is a hardly reversible process in the no-till system (NT), mainly in clayey soils. Generally, its occurrence in croplands is often irregular and restricted to areas with a previous history of pressures associated to intensive traffic of agricultural machineries. The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in soil physical properties of a red Oxisol with clayey texture (450 g kg-1) and soybean yield, caused by two site-specific chisels and conventional (random) chisel tillage. For this work, a 50.6 ha cropland area under long-term no-till and site-specific farming was selected in the Municipality of Victor Graeff, located in the plateau region of Rio Grande do Sul. The climate is a subtropical Cfa with annual rainfall ranging from 1500 to 1750 mm, average temperature of 20 °C, at 490 m asl. Based on three crop yield maps, the field was subdivided in three management zones with distinct yield potential where the soil physical properties were investigated. The following treatments were established in the low yield zone (LZ): (a) conventional chiseling at fixed soil depth (0.30 m) (CC); (b) site-specific chiseling with Fox® equipment at fixed soil depth (0.30 m) (SSCF); (c) site-specific chiseling with Fox® equipment at variable soil depth (0.10 to 0.30 m) based on maximum soil penetration resistance maps (SSCV); and (d) control without chiseling (CWC). The high yield zone (HZ) was used as a reference to evaluate treatment effects on soybean grain yield. Treatments were arranged in parallel strips of 100 x 20 m, in a randomized block design. In three evaluations, the soil water infiltration and bulk density, macro and microporosity and total porosity were evaluated in the layers 0.0-0.05, 0.05-0.10, 0.10-0.15 and 0.15-0.20 m. The results of the initial soil characterization showed higher bulk density and lower soil porosity in the 0.15-0.20 m layer, in the LZ in relation to HZ. Treatments showed an immediate increase of water infiltration after chiseling. The increase in water infiltration in treatments CC and SSCV was four times the water infiltration observed in the CWC. However, the chiseling effect, regardless of the chisel type, was ephemeral and after seven months there was a decrease of water infiltration in chiseled soil, similar to CWC. Of the chisel types, the SSCV was superior to CC by maintaining higher soil coverage and by increasing soybean yield. Although, in a crop season with high rainfall, no positive effects of chiseling on soybean yield were noticed, in relation to CWC.

    Tradução de leaflet dp projeto AGFORWARD- Na Grécia existem dois sistemas com carvalho-valónia: florestas antigas de baixa densidade (sistemas silvopastoris) e campos agrícolas com carvalho-valónia (sistemas agro-silvopastoris). Ambos têm valor socioeconómico, ecológico e cultural significativo. Fornecem serviços do ecossistema e sustentam usos tradicionais como o pastoreio, a recolha de bolotas e das suas cúpulas, a madeira (para construção naval, lenha e carvão), e a recolha de plantas aromáticas e medicinais. As florestas de carvalho-valónia são um dos habitats da Rede NATURA 2000 e incluem árvores monumentais em vários locais da Grécia. A recolha de cúpulas da bolota para curtimenta foi uma atividade económica tradicional muito importante até à década de 1970, contribuindo significativamente para as economias locais. A produção média anual de cúpulas de bolota chegava às 14000 toneladas. A maioria era exportada em bruto ou processada para a produção de pó, líquido ou extrato. Mais recentemente, tem havido manifestações de interesse em recuperar o valor produtivo destes sistemas nos contextos de recolha de bolota, agricultura biológica e produção animal, assim como por motivos de proteção ambiental. Também tem aumentado o interesse pela história desta prática tradicional.

    Nos anos agrícolas de 2015/2016 e 2016/2017, realizaram-se dois ensaios de campo, na Herdade da Almocreva (Beja) e na Herdade do Passinho (Elvas), respetivamente. O objetivo destes ensaios foi estudar o efeito de diferentes doses do herbicida de pré-emergência aclonifena, em interação com dois volumes de calda, no controlo das infestantes e na produtividade da cultura do grão-de-bico (Cicer arietinum L.). As doses de herbicida estudadas foram 1500, 1800, 2100 e 2400 g s.a ha-1, correspondendo a dose menor à mínima recomendada pelo fabricante do produto para esta cultura e a dose mais elevada, à dose máxima recomendada. Os volumes de calda aplicados foram 300 e 400 L ha-1, com os volumes recomendados a variarem entre 300 e 500 L ha-1. Quer as doses, quer os volumes de calda usados, são recomendados em Espanha, estando este herbicida, em fase final de homologação para Portugal. Verificou-se, uma maior reinfestação no segundo ano de ensaio, mas a interação ano x dose x volume não foi significativa relativamente à produção de grão por unidade de área, havendo diferenças significativas relativamente a este parâmetro, apenas para as doses de herbicida e para a interação ano x dose. A correlação entre a eficácia do herbicida e a produção de grão foi altamente significativa para os dois anos de ensaio e diferentes modalidades (dose x volume). Em cada um dos anos de ensaio, a produção de grão por unidade de área está correlacionada significativamente com o número de vagens por planta, a altura das plantas e o número de sementes por unidade de área, o mesmo não sucedendo com o número de plantas por unidade de área e com o peso médio da semente.     Tradução de leaflet do Projeto AGFORWARD - Para satisfazer as necessidades da crescente população humana, a produção global de alimentos deveria pelo menos duplicar até ao fim deste século. No entanto, o potencial produtivo das culturas estagnou (Ray et al. 2012), esperando-se uma redução no seu rendimento em consequência das alterações climáticas (Brisson et al. 2010). O número crescente de eventos de calor precoce nas regiões temperadas está a causar cada vez mais stress térmico na fase do enchimento dos grãos, e stress hídrico no período de alongamento do caule, o que traz consequências negativas para o rendimento das culturas. Nos últimos anos, em várias regiões de Espanha, as culturas de cereal não foram colhidas devido à falta de grão nas plantas. Em consequência, os agricultores têm vindo a procurar novas práticas que mitiguem os efeitos negativos das alterações climáticas, e novas espécies e cultivares mais bem-adaptadas às novas condições climáticas.

    Tradução de leaflet do Projeto AGFORWARD - A utilização de um sistema de rastreio por GPS levou à alteração da tipologia do trabalho no processo de criação de renas, pois a manada pode ser monitorizada e seguida remotamente por computador. Isso melhora o conhecimento quanto às rotas migratórias e ao uso das áreas de pastagem, dado que os movimentos dos animais são registados pelos aparelhos de deteção. Com a ajuda do sistema de rastreio por GPS pode reduzir-se a quilometragem percorrida em veículos, e os ataques de predadores à manada podem ser detetados na sua fase inicial. Estes ataques são uma grande preocupação para os pastores Sami devido às perdas económicas que causam.

    Tradução de leaflet do projeto AGFORWARD - A realização de um diagnóstico abrangente (estudando o solo, o clima, a topografia, etc.) do potencial do local para suportar o desenvolvimento de árvores permite aos agricultores a escolha das espécies mais adequadas para plantar. Também permite a identificação das operações culturais necessárias à preparação da plantação. Este trabalho preparatório tem por objetivo eliminar os resíduos de culturas anteriores (lavoura dos restolhos), controlar as plantas espontâneas perto das árvores, para estimular uma expansão rápida e profunda do seu sistema radicular, melhorando, ao mesmo tempo, o fornecimento de água e o arejamento do solo (subsolagem), e nivelar a superfície do solo antes da plantação. Estas operações terão grande impacto no crescimento e na sobrevivência das árvores, aumentando assim a produtividade global do sistema agroflorestal.

    Tradução de leaflet do projeto AGFORWARD - O aumento na procura de carne resulta simultaneamente do aumento da população humana e do consumo de carne por pessoa. Agricultores e cientistas têm tentado reduzir os impactos ambientais adversos do gado através do aumento da eficiência da produção e da redução da sua contribuição para o consumo humano. A redução das áreas destinadas a alimentação de gado, que competem com a produção de culturas para alimentação humana direta, é uma das abordagens para reduzir estes impactos ambientais negativos e reforçar a segurança alimentar futura. As pastagens mediterrâneas, tais como as dehesas e montados, enfrentam desafios consideráveis. O pastoreio contínuo ocasiona variações sazonais acentuadas da produção herbácea e dificuldades de fornecimento de forragem suficiente ao longo do ano. Assim, a dependência de fontes externas de alimento compromete a rentabilidade de muitas explorações. O desenvolvimento de sistemas de pastoreio melhor adaptados é essencial para uma maior resiliência das dehesas e montados.

    Os sistemas agroflorestais são uma prática bem conhecida, dispersa e diversificada em Portugal. Estes sistemas incluem uma variedade de espécies, culturas e variedades locais de animais e culturas agrícolas. Na região centro e norte do país, caracterizadas por explorações de pequena dimensão, os sistemas agroflorestais foram durante muitos séculos a base de uma agricultura familiar, permitindo às famílias aumentar a diversidade dos produtos provenientes de uma pequena parcela. Na região Norte de Portugal podemos encontrar um sistema ancestral, originário da idade média, o qual se apresenta com um rápido decréscimo em área de dispersão: a vinha do enforcado.

    tradução de leaflet do projeto AGFORWARD - Desde a emergência do Homo sapiens até cerca de 200 a 300 anos, as árvores têm sido a principal fonte de energia (e de outros materiais e alimentos). Há 20,000 anos, a razão árvores/humanos era de cerca de 1,5 milhões para 1, mas atualmente caiu drasticamente para cerca de 400 para 1 (e continua a descer). Para salvar o planeta e a humanidade, necessitamos de sistemas de produção de alimentos e energia eficientes em termos de abastecimento e que, ao mesmo tempo, melhorem a qualidade e sustentabilidade da biosfera. A melhor maneira de o conseguir será revertendo o declínio desta relação entre árvores e pessoas. Idealmente, para minimizar as perdas por transmissão, a energia renovável necessária para substituir os combustíveis fósseis deve ser produzida perto de onde será usada. Este sistema deverá também ter outros benefícios e ser completamente sustentável. Todos os sistemas agroflorestais são potencialmente capazes de o fazer, mas os sistemas que integrem a produção de energia e alimentos serão os mais eficazes e sustentáveis.

    Tradução de leaflet do Projeto AGFORWARD - Na Hungria existem sistemas silvopastoris de elevado valor natural e cultural há milhares de anos. Atualmente existem 33 318 ha destes sistemas silvopastoris: 28 % em áreas protegidas e 60 % na Rede Natura 2000. Nos anos 50, 88 % das terras produtivas eram sistemas silvopastoris. Hoje em dia, a maior parte destes sistemas estão florestados e excessivamente cobertos de mato e árvores, causando sérios problemas ao nível das explorações. O restauro destes sistemas abandonados é fundamental para o desenvolvimento do valor natural e cultural da região rural, e para a rentabilidade da indústria de criação de gado. Se estas zonas forem deixadas ao abandono, podem vir a ser registadas como áreas florestais, o que proibirá a atividade silvopastoril (pastoreio e/ou limpeza para pastagem).

    A compactação do solo, quando em níveis elevados, é um processo de difícil reversão sob sistema de plantio direto (SPD), especialmente em solos argilosos. Geralmente, a sua ocorrência em áreas comerciais de grãos é descontínua e restrita a áreas com histórico de pressões associadas ao trânsito intenso de máquinas agrícolas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar as alterações nos atributos físicos de um Latossolo Vermelho distrófico de textura argilosa (450 g kg-1) promovidas por dois tipos de escarificações sítio-específico e uma convencional (aleatória), bem como seus efeitos sobre o rendimento da soja. Para isso, selecionou-se no município de Victor Graeff, na região do planalto do RS, uma lavoura de 50,6 ha manejada sob SPD por longo prazo e, recentemente, com agricultura de precisão. O clima local é subtropical Cfa, com precipitação pluvial anual oscilando entre 1.500 e 1.750 mm, temperatura média de 20 ºC e altitude de 490 m. Com base nos mapas de rendimento de três safras anteriores, a área foi subdividida em três zonas de potencial produtivo. Na zona de baixo rendimento (ZB) foram implantados os seguintes tratamentos: (a) escarificação convencional com profundidade fixa de 0,30 m (EC); (b) escarificação sítio-específico com equipamento Fox® com profundidade fixa de 0,30 m (ESEF); (c) escarificação sítio-específico com equipamento Fox® com profundidade de atuação variável (0,10 a 0,30 m), em função da resistência máxima do solo à penetração (ESEV); e (d) controle sem escarificação (SE). A zona de alto rendimento (ZA) foi usada como referência para avaliar o efeito dos tratamentos no rendimento de grãos. Os tratamentos foram implantados em faixas paralelas de 100 x 20 m, seguindo o delineamento de blocos casualizados. Avaliaram-se, em três épocas, a densidade do solo, macroporosidade, microporosidade e porosidade total nas profundidades de 0,0-0,05, 0,05-0,10, 0,10-0,15 e 0,15-0,20 m, bem como a infiltração de água no solo. Os resultados da caracterização inicial dos atributos do solo por zona de rendimento evidenciaram maior densidade do solo e menor porosidade total, na profundidade de 0,15-0,20 m, na ZB em relação à ZA. Em todos os tratamentos com escarificação mecânica, observou-se, logo após o preparo, incremento da infiltração de água em relação ao SE, que aumentou em torno de quatro vezes nos tratamentos EC e ESEV em comparação a esse controle. No entanto, o efeito da escarificação, independentemente do tipo de escarificador, foi efêmero; transcorridos sete meses, verificou-se decréscimo na infiltração de água no solo, que não diferiu do tratamento controle. Entre os escarificadores investigados, o ESEV destacou-se pela manutenção da cobertura do solo em relação ao EC e proporcionou maior rendimento de soja. Contudo, sob condições de elevada precipitação pluvial não foi observado incremento no rendimento da soja nos tratamentos com escarificação mecânica, em relação ao tratamento controle (SE). Soil compaction at high intensity degrees is a hardly reversible process in the no-till system (NT), mainly in clayey soils. Generally, its occurrence in croplands is often irregular and restricted to areas with a previous history of pressures associated to intensive traffic of agricultural machineries. The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in soil physical properties of a red Oxisol with clayey texture (450 g kg-1) and soybean yield, caused by two site-specific chisels and conventional (random) chisel tillage. For this work, a 50.6 ha cropland area under long-term no-till and site-specific farming was selected in the Municipality of Victor Graeff, located in the plateau region of Rio Grande do Sul. The climate is a subtropical Cfa with annual rainfall ranging from 1500 to 1750 mm, average temperature of 20 °C, at 490 m asl. Based on three crop yield maps, the field was subdivided in three management zones with distinct yield potential where the soil physical properties were investigated. The following treatments were established in the low yield zone (LZ): (a) conventional chiseling at fixed soil depth (0.30 m) (CC); (b) site-specific chiseling with Fox® equipment at fixed soil depth (0.30 m) (SSCF); (c) site-specific chiseling with Fox® equipment at variable soil depth (0.10 to 0.30 m) based on maximum soil penetration resistance maps (SSCV); and (d) control without chiseling (CWC). The high yield zone (HZ) was used as a reference to evaluate treatment effects on soybean grain yield. Treatments were arranged in parallel strips of 100 x 20 m, in a randomized block design. In three evaluations, the soil water infiltration and bulk density, macro and microporosity and total porosity were evaluated in the layers 0.0-0.05, 0.05-0.10, 0.10-0.15 and 0.15-0.20 m. The results of the initial soil characterization showed higher bulk density and lower soil porosity in the 0.15-0.20 m layer, in the LZ in relation to HZ. Treatments showed an immediate increase of water infiltration after chiseling. The increase in water infiltration in treatments CC and SSCV was four times the water infiltration observed in the CWC. However, the chiseling effect, regardless of the chisel type, was ephemeral and after seven months there was a decrease of water infiltration in chiseled soil, similar to CWC. Of the chisel types, the SSCV was superior to CC by maintaining higher soil coverage and by increasing soybean yield. Although, in a crop season with high rainfall, no positive effects of chiseling on soybean yield were noticed, in relation to CWC.

    Tradução de leaflet dp projeto AGFORWARD- Na Grécia existem dois sistemas com carvalho-valónia: florestas antigas de baixa densidade (sistemas silvopastoris) e campos agrícolas com carvalho-valónia (sistemas agro-silvopastoris). Ambos têm valor socioeconómico, ecológico e cultural significativo. Fornecem serviços do ecossistema e sustentam usos tradicionais como o pastoreio, a recolha de bolotas e das suas cúpulas, a madeira (para construção naval, lenha e carvão), e a recolha de plantas aromáticas e medicinais. As florestas de carvalho-valónia são um dos habitats da Rede NATURA 2000 e incluem árvores monumentais em vários locais da Grécia. A recolha de cúpulas da bolota para curtimenta foi uma atividade económica tradicional muito importante até à década de 1970, contribuindo significativamente para as economias locais. A produção média anual de cúpulas de bolota chegava às 14000 toneladas. A maioria era exportada em bruto ou processada para a produção de pó, líquido ou extrato. Mais recentemente, tem havido manifestações de interesse em recuperar o valor produtivo destes sistemas nos contextos de recolha de bolota, agricultura biológica e produção animal, assim como por motivos de proteção ambiental. Também tem aumentado o interesse pela história desta prática tradicional.

    Nos anos agrícolas de 2015/2016 e 2016/2017, realizaram-se dois ensaios de campo, na Herdade da Almocreva (Beja) e na Herdade do Passinho (Elvas), respetivamente. O objetivo destes ensaios foi estudar o efeito de diferentes doses do herbicida de pré-emergência aclonifena, em interação com dois volumes de calda, no controlo das infestantes e na produtividade da cultura do grão-de-bico (Cicer arietinum L.). As doses de herbicida estudadas foram 1500, 1800, 2100 e 2400 g s.a ha-1, correspondendo a dose menor à mínima recomendada pelo fabricante do produto para esta cultura e a dose mais elevada, à dose máxima recomendada. Os volumes de calda aplicados foram 300 e 400 L ha-1, com os volumes recomendados a variarem entre 300 e 500 L ha-1. Quer as doses, quer os volumes de calda usados, são recomendados em Espanha, estando este herbicida, em fase final de homologação para Portugal. Verificou-se, uma maior reinfestação no segundo ano de ensaio, mas a interação ano x dose x volume não foi significativa relativamente à produção de grão por unidade de área, havendo diferenças significativas relativamente a este parâmetro, apenas para as doses de herbicida e para a interação ano x dose. A correlação entre a eficácia do herbicida e a produção de grão foi altamente significativa para os dois anos de ensaio e diferentes modalidades (dose x volume). Em cada um dos anos de ensaio, a produção de grão por unidade de área está correlacionada significativamente com o número de vagens por planta, a altura das plantas e o número de sementes por unidade de área, o mesmo não sucedendo com o número de plantas por unidade de área e com o peso médio da semente.
