    Authors: Karadjova, Olia;

    Ceratitis capitata (Diptera:Tephritidae) is native to Africa, but has spread to other parts of the world including southern Europe, Australia, Middle east and the New World tropics. The Mediterranean fruit fly is considered to be one of the worlds most destructive fruit pests because of its global distribution, wide host range and rapid dispersal. Of the main pathways of entry of C. capitata in Bulgaria, the pathway of infested fruits is considered as the most important and entry along this pathway is assessed as likely. Spread is expected to be by both natural means and by trade in fruit. C. capitata is a strong flyer and this would facilitate its transfer to suitable hosts. The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) provided data from monitoring surveys in 15 regions of the country for the period 2014 - 2016. Despite the low density of C. capitata adults captured in Bulgaria, the results from the surveys are similar to the data on the seasonal occurence of population fluctuations obtained in neighboring countries (Northern Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, Romania) and Spain. Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus (CABYV) in Poland was identified in 2018 during monitoring of zucchini crops in Wielkopolskie and Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeships. Symptoms were observed on the harvested plants in the form of distorted leaves with severe chlorosis and necrosis, while the fruits were stunted and discolored. Biological, serological (DAS- and TAS-ELISA) and molecular (RT-PCR) tests were performed for the collected zucchini plant and fruit samples to identify virus species that could be the cause of the observed disease symptoms. In addition, next-generation total RNA sequencing was performed for 4 samples by an external company. Using the above methods, known viruses infecting zucchini were identified, i.e. Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), Watermelon mosaic virus (WMV), Zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) and CABYV, which is new to Poland. What's more, mixed infections were present in the overwhelming number of samples. In 2019, during monitoring of zucchini crops in the same locations also found CABYV in infected plants and zucchini fruits. PL; pl; PDF; kwarantanna@iorpib.poznan.pl

    An increase in the incidence of Neonectria neomacrospora has been observed in northern and western European countries since 2008. The pathogen causes dieback of trees, mainly of the Abies (fir) genus. The biology and epidemiology of the fungus are largely unknown. It is believed that the disease spreads by means of ascospores moving with the wind, and conidial spores splashed by raindrops. Transmission of the pathogen via infected seeds is suspected. In Poland, N. neomacrospora poses a real threat to forest crops (fir forests), farms producing nursery stock, Christmas tree plantations and trees planted in parks and gardens. Meloidogyne luci represents the root-knot nematode - one of the most important groups of plant-parasitic nematodes. It includes important pests of crops in both temperate and tropical and subtropical climate zones. The occurrence of M. luci in the European area prompts consideration of the likelihood of the species' introduction into the RP, as well as its establishment and causing damage. The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has prepared a health risk assess- ment for products sold on the market as food supplements containing a daily dose of chole- calciferol—the precursor to active vitamin D—of 50 or 100 micrograms. These products are representative of certain high-dose preparations used by some consumers to increase their intake of vitamin D.

    Deliverable D3.1 “Open Science Data Analytics Technologies” is a deliverable of type Demonstrator meaning that it manifests in artefacts (software releases) other than reports. In particular, the deliverable is about the software realising the Data Analytics & Processing Layer of the AGINFRA+. This software is part of a large software system named gCube (www.gcube-system.org). The gCube system offers a large array of services supporting the entire lifecycle underlying a research activity (data management and collation, analytics, collaboration, sharing) and the possibility to combine these services in Virtual Research Environments. In the context of AGINFRA PLUS the following gCube components have been primarily exploited, consolidated and enhanced to serve the analytics needs arising in the context of the project use cases. DataMiner, i.e. a service enacting its users to perform data analytics tasks by relying on an array of analytics methods and a distributed and heterogeneous computing infrastructure. This service is available by a web-based GUI as well as via a web-based API based on the OGC WPS standard. SAI (Statistical Algorithm Importer), i.e. a service enacting its users to make available their own analytics methods via the DataMiner service. In addition to that, the entire analytics solution made available for AGINFRA PLUS cases counts on (i) a shared workspace realising a cloud-based file manager for managing content of interest and sharing this content with co-workers, (ii) a social networking area enabling users to post messages and have discussions, (iii) a flexible catalogue enabling to publish and discover items of interest including “research objects” resulting from an analytics task. This technology is deployed in its latest version in every Virtual Research Environment supporting AGINFRA PLUS cases. The major enhancements to the technology pertaining to AGINFRA PLUS have been included in three gCube major releases 4.7 (October 2017), 4.8 (November 2017), and 4.9 (under production).In particular, with these releases a new “black-box” oriented approach (https://wiki.gcubesystem.org/gcube/Statistical_Algorithms_Importer:_Java_Project#Black_Box_Integration) has been envisaged and implemented to enact analytics method owners and developers to easily integrate their solutions into the DataMinerservice. Among the supported black-box typologies there is that for KNIME workflows, i.e. analytics methods implemented by a KNIME workflow. KNIME is among the key technologies supporting the Food Safety Risk Assessment cases. In order to enact the execution of KNIME-based black-boxes, the distributed computing part of the data analytics platform has been extended to integrate the KNIME execution engine. Other cases are counting on the same mechanism to integrate entire applications (WOFOST) as well as Python-based methods. The deliverable has been created on the public space of the AGINFRA+ Wiki and is accessible through the following link: https://support.d4science.org/projects/aginfraplus_wiki/wiki/D31_-_Open_Science_Data_Analytics_Technologies

    The bacterium Curtobacterium flaccumfaciens pv. poinsettiae was first described in 1942 in the US and was found to be the culprit of leaf spot, stem rot and canker on poinsettias. In 2014, the pathogen was detected in Germany and sporadically in several other European countries. The bacterium poses a potential risk to the production of poinsettias, one of the most widely sold potted plants in the world. PL; pl; PDF; kwarantanna@iorpib.poznan.pl

    The probability of the importation of S. frugiperda to Europe is very high - caterpillars imported with imported plant material have been repeatedly recorded, but under current climatic conditions it is not able to establish established populations in Poland. If numerous populations of S. frugiperda appear in northern Africa or southern Europe, it is possible that it may reach Poland through spontaneous migration. Currently, the larvae of this species are very often detected by European phytosanitary services, and the appearance of this species under field conditions in Germany has also been reported. Identification of the threat is facilitated by the fact that traces of caterpillar feeding are usually clearly visible and relatively easy to detect. However, the larvae themselves can hide on plants in various ways, including by biting into the inside of stems, shoots, fruits, etc. Therefore, plant material imported from the area where the agrophage is present should be thoroughly inspected and, if necessary, quarantined or disinfected. In our conditions, this mainly concerns the spring-summer period, when the larvae could complete their development under field conditions. A thorough inspection should also take place in the countries of the Mediterranean region, where the species may already in the near future acclimatize to field conditions. AGINFRA+ aspires to provide a sustainable channel addressing adjacent but not fully connected user communities around Food & Agriculture, by exploiting core European e-infrastructures such as EGI.eu, OpenAIRE, EUDAT and D4Science. To this end, the project develops, extends and provides the necessary specifications and components for allowing the rapid and intuitive development of variegating data analysis workflows, where the functionalities for data storage and indexing, algorithm execution, results visualization and deployment are provided by specialized services utilizing European large-scale, cloud-based infrastructural assets. Furthermore, AGINFRA+ aspires to establish a framework facilitating the transparent documentation, exploitation and publication of research assets (datasets, mathematical models, software components and publications), to enable their reuse and repurposing from the wider research community. Thus, the vision of AGINFRA+ project is to develop a common technical infrastructure that could initially serve three user communities (namely, Agro-climatic and Economic Modelling, Food Safety & Risk Assessment and Food Security) and it could be evolved to an AGINFRA food cloud demonstrator that will be positioned as the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC)1 agri-food thematic cloud. WP8 concentrates on the dissemination of the project and its results among the identified target groups by using online and offline dissemination channels and activities. More specifically, WP8 focuses on creating awareness and engaging further the scientific communities that are related to each one of the three user communities of the project (namely, Agro-climatic and Economic Modelling, Food Safety & Risk Assessment and Food Security) and (b) creating general awareness about AGINFRA+ and the types of innovative services that scientists may use, in other scientific communities and networks (Task 8.2). Moreover, linking AGINFRA+ with international initiatives and networks that are working on open, big and interoperable data for agriculture and nutrition towards contributing to the corresponding standardisation work falls within the scope of WP8 under Task 8.3. Additionally, alignment of the work held in AGINFRA+ with the conception, development and deployment of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and its integration with the existing core e-infrastructures is part of Task 8.4. Finally, WP8 aims at establishing a sustainable legal entity form (through a not-for-profit association) for the further operation and evolution of AGINFRA+ as a joint venture of involved stakeholders of innovative services that scientists may use, in other scientific communities and network (Task 8.5). WP8 has created until M18 an online infrastructure (including project website and social media channels) and a set of print dissemination materials to promote the project (Annex D). By the end of M18, the project website has been visited by 523 people (unique visitors). The social media channels count 251 community members (Facebook) and 849 followers (Twitter). These numbers are expected to be further increased as soon as additional tangible results are available via the deployed Virtual Research Environments (VREs) for the targeted project communities. Finally, the project has organized 13 major events with selected group of researchers and practitioners (see Section 3.1 and Annex A and Annex B). Moreover, the project has conducted 29 AGINFRA+ presentations and panel participations at scientific conferences, workshops and other events and was represented at 4 conferences and fairs with a booth or distributing leaflets (see Section 3.2 and Annex B). In total, more than 4615 stakeholders have been reached and 7 scientific publications (3 journal papers, 2 conference papers and 1 book chapter) were published or have submitted for publication (See Section 3.3 and Annex C). This deliverable describes online and offline dissemination channels, as well as activities, which were conducted until M18 of the project. Moreover, it provides an outlook of the dissemination activities that are planned for the next 18 months of the project, namely M19-M36. Furthermore, Key Performance Indicators are described and applied to measure the effectiveness of dissemination until M18 and allow measuring the progress in the next 18 months of the project.

    Authors: Karadjova, Olia;
