    Veebipõhiste sotsiaalmeediaplatvormide, nagu Twitter ja Facebook, esilekerkimine on hõlbustanud valeteabe ülemaailmset levitamist, soodustades sotsiaalse hirmu, ärevuse ja majandusliku kahju kasvu. Lõputöö uurib mitmekülgset lähenemisviisi desinformatsiooniga võitlemiseks digiajastul, keskendudes kolmele põhidimensioonile: valeinformatsiooni sisu tuvastamine, raamistiku väljatöötamine valeinformatsiooni levitajate tuvastamiseks, ja tõhusate desinformatsioonivastaste meetmete rakendamine. Esiteks on meie väljapakutud postituste iseloomustamise meetodi eesmärk mõista kuulujuttudest ja mittekuulujuttudest postituste tunnuseid, et tuvastada postitajate kognitiivne tegevus ja desinformatsiooni levitamise motiivid. Sotsiaalmeediapostituste omaduste põhjalik uurimine aitab teadlaskonnal tuvastada ja vältida desinformatsiooni. Teiseks ei ole varasemad meetodid kahtlaste või pahatahtlike kasutajate ja desinformatsiooni tuvastamiseks Twitteris ja teistel sarnastel platvormidel piisavalt kaalunud kasutajatasandil toimuvat tuvastamist. Ühe postituse põhjal kasutaja kuulujuttude levitajaks liigitamisest ei piisa. Meie panus sellesse valdkonda on klassifitseerimisraamistik, mis ühendab parema lähenemisviisi väljatöötamiseks mitmed postitused ja võrguteabe. Kolmandaks on olemasolevad sotsiaalmeedias desinformatsiooni leviku piiramise lähenemisviisid kohati piiratud, näiteks puudub väline modereerimine ja süsteem tugineb rangetele eeldustele. Esitame automatiseeritud lahenduse valeinformatsiooni suuremahuliseks ümberlükkamiseks, kasutades selleks sotsiaalmeedia andmeid ja kureeritud kontrollitud faktidega andmehoidlaid. Eelkõige keskendutakse selles aspektis Twitteri platvormile ja COVID-19 väärinfole, uurides kahte teineteist täiendavat lähenemisviisi. The emergence of Online Social Media (OSM) platforms like Twitter and Facebook has facilitated the global dissemination of false information, contributing to social fear, anxiety, and economic harm. This thesis examines the multifaceted approach to combating misinformation in the digital era, focusing on three key dimensions: identifying misinformation content, developing a framework for identifying misinformation spreaders, and carrying out effective counter misinformation measures. First, our proposed characterization approach aims to understand the traits of rumor and non-rumor posts to identify cognitive behavior and motivations behind spreading misinformation. Scrutinizing social media posts' characteristics helps the research community detect and prevent misinformation. Second, previous techniques for detecting suspicious or malicious users and identifying misinformation on platforms like Twitter have not considered user-level detection adequately. Categorizing a user as a rumor based on one post is insufficient. Our contribution is a classification framework that combines multiple posts and network information to develop a better approach. Third, existing approaches for mitigating the spread of misinformation on social media have limitations, such as the lack of external moderation and reliance on strict assumptions. We propose an automated rebuttal of misinformation at scale by harnessing social media data and curated fact-checked data repositories.     Luu- ja lihaskonna vaevused on levinumad tööga seotud terviseprobleemid ja töövõimetuse põhjustajad Euroopas. Tänu tehnoloogia kiirele arengule muutub töö laad pidevalt ning järjest enam suureneb vaimse töö osakaal. Kuigi kontoritöö ei ole füüsiliselt raske töö, on luu- ja lihaskonna vaevuste esinemissagedus samasugune kui füüsilise töö puhul. Kontoritöötajate peamised luu- ja lihaskonna vaevused on kaela-, õla- ning alaseljavalu. Viimasel ajal on kontoritöös tekkinud uued trendid, mis tagavad töötamise paindlikkuse ja mobiilsuse. Põhilised neist on kaugtöö, tegevuspõhine kontor ning mobiilsete töövahendite kasutamine. Enne COVID-19 pandeemiat oli kaugtöö suhteliselt harva kasutatav töövorm, kuid pandeemiajärgsel ajal muutunud äärmiselt levinuks. Tegevuspõhist kontorit kasutavad peamiselt uuendusmeelsemad organisatsioonid. Kuna tegemist on suhteliselt uute töövormidega, on teaduskirjandust nende mõjust tervisele vähe. Samuti on vähe informatsiooni mobiilsete töövahendite mõju kohta luu- ja lihaskonna tervisele. Siinses doktoritöös uurisime kontoritöötajate luu- ja lihaskonna vaevuste esinemissagedust seoses tööalaste tegurite, kehalise aktiivsuse, kaela- ja õlapiirkonna funktsionaalse võimekuse ning COVID-19 karantiiniga. Selgus, et luu- ja lihaskonna vaevuste esinemissagedus on sarnane nii tegevuspõhises kontoris töötajatel kui ka personaalse töökohaga töötajatel. Küll aga võib tegevuspõhises kontoris töötades olla tööpäevane kehaline aktivsus vähesel määral suurem, seda põhiliselt asendite vahetamise ning eriti suurema päevase seismisaja arvelt. Samuti leidsime, et sülearvuti kasutamine on seotud kõrgema õlavalu riskiga. Hoolimata õlavalu riskist ei esinenud erinevusi kaela- ja õlapiirkonna funktsionaalses võimekuses võrreldes välise kuvari kasutajatega. Seega võib arvata, et sülearvuti kasutamine põhjustab pigem subjektiivset ebamugavustunnet kuid mitte pikaajalisi muutuseid kaela- ja õlapiirkonna objektiivselt mõõdetud funktsioneerimises. COVID-19 eriolukorra tõttu koju tööle asunud kontoritöötajate luu- ja lihaskonna vaevuste esinemissagedus ei muutunud, kuid kehalise aktiivsuse tase langes olulisel määral ning seda põhiliselt spordiharrastuste arvelt. Musculoskeletal disorders are the most common work-related health problems and the leading cause of disability in Europe. Due to rapid advances in technology, the proportion of mental labour is increasing, however, the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders is similar to physical labour. The most common musculoskeletal disorders among office workers are neck pain, shoulder pain, and low back pain. Recently, certain novel trends have risen in office work, including remote work, activity-based office, and mobile work equipment. Activity-based workplaces are a rather new phenomenon and before the COVID-19 pandemic, remote work was also not that common. Due to the novelty of these forms of working, the literature on their potential effects on health is scarce. There is also a shortage of evidence about the effect of mobile work equipment on musculoskeletal health. In this doctoral thesis, we aimed to assess the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders in office workers in relation to work-related factors, physical activity, functional characteristics of the neck and shoulder area, and the COVID-19 lockdown. As a result, we concluded, that the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders is similar in office workers working in activity-based offices when compared with workers with designated workplaces. However, work-related physical activity was slightly higher in the activity-based office. This was mainly due to more postural variety and daily standing time. We also found, that using a laptop computer for work was associated with a higher prevalence of pain in the shoulder area. Despite this finding, there were no differences when the functional characteristics of the neck and shoulder area when laptop users were compared with desktop computer users. Using a laptop computer can increase the subjective discomfort in the shoulder area, but might not cause a long-term adaptation in the functional characteristics. The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among office workers who shifted to working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic did not change.     Mobile data such as call data records (CDR), and digital data generate a large volume of data that carries valuable information about people’s behavior. In this thesis, we focus on three facets of societal well-being. First, we propose two versions of the mobility-based SIR model, (i) fully-mixed and (ii) for complex networks, which take into account real-life interactions from CDR. This work is inspired by the assumption that the fundamental cause for some epidemics becoming pandemics is global connectedness, which makes it easier to affect a larger geographical area, often globally. Furthermore, population distribution, people’s mobility, and social coherence are not uniform across the globe which plays a critical role. We also used our model to forecast the COVID-19 cases for Estonia and Rhône-Alpes region in France. Second, we study societal segregation in Estonia using CDR data. Our findings suggest that (i) gender segregation exists in Estonia and its traces are visible in individuals calling hours, connectivity among age-groups, preferred language of communication, and in the county; (ii) The prime working individuals (i.e., (25-54) age-group) and elderly (i.e., (64-100) age-group) are more segregated; (iii) Estonian-speaking and Russian-speaking individuals are segregated based on language. Third, we investigate digital traces from mobile apps (like Twitter and Facebook) to predict socio-economic conditions (SEC). These SEC include education, gender, poverty, employment, and other factors. Therefore, reliable and accurate information is critical for social research and government policing. Using the app's usage patterns, our best model is able to estimate economic, educational, and demographic indicators (attaining an R-squared score up to 0.66). Furthermore, we report on the explainability of these models in order to identify the important features for prediction. We discover that mobile app usage patterns can reveal socio-economic disparities. Käesolevas lõputöös keskendume ühiskonna heaolu kolmele tahule. Esiteks pakume välja kaks mobiilsusepõhise SIR-mudeli versiooni, (i) täielikult segatud ja (ii) keeruliste võrkude jaoks, mis võtavad arvesse CDR-i tegelikke interaktsioone. See töö on inspireeritud eeldusest, et mõne epideemia pandeemiaks muutumise peamine põhjus on globaalne seotus, mis muudab lihtsamaks suurema geograafilise piirkonna, sageli globaalse, mõjutamise. Lisaks ei ole rahvastiku jaotus, inimeste liikuvus ja sotsiaalne sidusus kogu maailmas ühtlane, mis mängib kriitilist rolli. Kasutasime oma mudelit COVID-19 juhtumite prognoosimiseks Eestis ja Prantsusmaal Rhône-Alpes. Teiseks uurime CDR-andmete abil ühiskondlikku segregatsiooni Eestis. Meie tulemused viitavad sellele, et (i) Eestis esineb sooline segregatsioon ja selle jäljed on nähtavad nii inimeste helistamisaegades, vanuserühmade ühenduvuses, eelistatud suhtluskeeles kui ka maakonnas; (ii) Peamised töötavad isikud (st (25–54) vanuserühm) ja vanurid (s.o (64–100) vanuserühm) on rohkem segregeeritud; (iii) Eesti- ja venekeelsed isikud on keelepõhiselt eraldatud. Kolmandaks uurime sotsiaal-majanduslike tingimuste (SEC) ennustamiseks mobiilirakenduste (nt Twitter ja Facebook) digitaalseid jälgi. Need tingimused hõlmavad haridust, sugu, vaesust, tööhõivet ja muid tegureid. Seetõttu on usaldusväärne ja täpne teave sotsiaaluuringute ja valitsuse politseitöö jaoks ülioluline. Rakenduste kasutusmustreid kasutades suudab meie parim mudel hinnata majanduslikke, hariduslikke ja demograafilisi näitajaid (saavutades R-ruudu skoori kuni 0,66). Lisaks anname aru nende mudelite seletatavuse kohta, et teha kindlaks prognoosimise olulised tunnused. Lõputöö uurib mitmekülgset lähenemisviisi desinformatsiooniga võitlemiseks digiajastul, keskendudes kolmele põhidimensioonile: valeinformatsiooni sisu tuvastamine, raamistiku väljatöötamine valeinformatsiooni levitajate tuvastamiseks, ja tõhusate desinformatsioonivastaste meetmete rakendamine. The emergence of Online Social Media (OSM) platforms like Twitter and Facebook has facilitated the global dissemination of false information, contributing to social fear, anxiety, and economic harm. This thesis examines the multifaceted approach to combating misinformation in the digital era, focusing on three key dimensions: identifying misinformation content, developing a framework for identifying misinformation spreaders, and carrying out effective counter misinformation measures. First, our proposed characterization approach aims to understand the traits of rumor and non-rumor posts to identify cognitive behavior and motivations behind spreading misinformation. Scrutinizing social media posts' characteristics helps the research community detect and prevent misinformation. Second, previous techniques for detecting suspicious or malicious users and identifying misinformation on platforms like Twitter have not considered user-level detection adequately. Categorizing a user as a rumor based on one post is insufficient. Our contribution is a classification framework that combines multiple posts and network information to develop a better approach. Third, existing approaches for mitigating the spread of misinformation on social media have limitations, such as the lack of external moderation and reliance on strict assumptions. We propose an automated rebuttal of misinformation at scale by harnessing social media data and curated fact-checked data repositories.     Luu- ja lihaskonna vaevused on levinumad tööga seotud terviseprobleemid ja töövõimetuse põhjustajad Euroopas. Tänu tehnoloogia kiirele arengule muutub töö laad pidevalt ning järjest enam suureneb vaimse töö osakaal. Kuigi kontoritöö ei ole füüsiliselt raske töö, on luu- ja lihaskonna vaevuste esinemissagedus samasugune kui füüsilise töö puhul. Kontoritöötajate peamised luu- ja lihaskonna vaevused on kaela-, õla- ning alaseljavalu. Viimasel ajal on kontoritöös tekkinud uued trendid, mis tagavad töötamise paindlikkuse ja mobiilsuse. Põhilised neist on kaugtöö, tegevuspõhine kontor ning mobiilsete töövahendite kasutamine. Enne COVID-19 pandeemiat oli kaugtöö suhteliselt harva kasutatav töövorm, kuid pandeemiajärgsel ajal muutunud äärmiselt levinuks. Tegevuspõhist kontorit kasutavad peamiselt uuendusmeelsemad organisatsioonid. Kuna tegemist on suhteliselt uute töövormidega, on teaduskirjandust nende mõjust tervisele vähe. Samuti on vähe informatsiooni mobiilsete töövahendite mõju kohta luu- ja lihaskonna tervisele. Siinses doktoritöös uurisime kontoritöötajate luu- ja lihaskonna vaevuste esinemissagedust seoses tööalaste tegurite, kehalise aktiivsuse, kaela- ja õlapiirkonna funktsionaalse võimekuse ning COVID-19 karantiiniga. Selgus, et luu- ja lihaskonna vaevuste esinemissagedus on sarnane nii tegevuspõhises kontoris töötajatel kui ka personaalse töökohaga töötajatel. Küll aga võib tegevuspõhises kontoris töötades olla tööpäevane kehaline aktivsus vähesel määral suurem, seda põhiliselt asendite vahetamise ning eriti suurema päevase seismisaja arvelt. Samuti leidsime, et sülearvuti kasutamine on seotud kõrgema õlavalu riskiga. Hoolimata õlavalu riskist ei esinenud erinevusi kaela- ja õlapiirkonna funktsionaalses võimekuses võrreldes välise kuvari kasutajatega. Seega võib arvata, et sülearvuti kasutamine põhjustab pigem subjektiivset ebamugavustunnet kuid mitte pikaajalisi muutuseid kaela- ja õlapiirkonna objektiivselt mõõdetud funktsioneerimises. COVID-19 eriolukorra tõttu koju tööle asunud kontoritöötajate luu- ja lihaskonna vaevuste esinemissagedus ei muutunud, kuid kehalise aktiivsuse tase langes olulisel määral ning seda põhiliselt spordiharrastuste arvelt. Musculoskeletal disorders are the most common work-related health problems and the leading cause of disability in Europe. Due to rapid advances in technology, the proportion of mental labour is increasing, however, the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders is similar to physical labour. The most common musculoskeletal disorders among office workers are neck pain, shoulder pain, and low back pain. Recently, certain novel trends have risen in office work, including remote work, activity-based office, and mobile work equipment. Activity-based workplaces are a rather new phenomenon and before the COVID-19 pandemic, remote work was also not that common. Due to the novelty of these forms of working, the literature on their potential effects on health is scarce. There is also a shortage of evidence about the effect of mobile work equipment on musculoskeletal health. In this doctoral thesis, we aimed to assess the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders in office workers in relation to work-related factors, physical activity, functional characteristics of the neck and shoulder area, and the COVID-19 lockdown. As a result, we concluded, that the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders is similar in office workers working in activity-based offices when compared with workers with designated workplaces. However, work-related physical activity was slightly higher in the activity-based office. This was mainly due to more postural variety and daily standing time. We also found, that using a laptop computer for work was associated with a higher prevalence of pain in the shoulder area. Despite this finding, there were no differences when the functional characteristics of the neck and shoulder area when laptop users were compared with desktop computer users. Using a laptop computer can increase the subjective discomfort in the shoulder area, but might not cause a long-term adaptation in the functional characteristics. The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among office workers who shifted to working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic did not change.     Mobile data such as call data records (CDR), and digital data generate a large volume of data that carries valuable information about people’s behavior. In this thesis, we focus on three facets of societal well-being. First, we propose two versions of the mobility-based SIR model, (i) fully-mixed and (ii) for complex networks, which take into account real-life interactions from CDR. This work is inspired by the assumption that the fundamental cause for some epidemics becoming pandemics is global connectedness, which makes it easier to affect a larger geographical area, often globally. Furthermore, population distribution, people’s mobility, and social coherence are not uniform across the globe which plays a critical role. We also used our model to forecast the COVID-19 cases for Estonia and Rhône-Alpes region in France. Second, we study societal segregation in Estonia using CDR data. Our findings suggest that (i) gender segregation exists in Estonia and its traces are visible in individuals calling hours, connectivity among age-groups, preferred language of communication, and in the county; (ii) The prime working individuals (i.e., (25-54) age-group) and elderly (i.e., (64-100) age-group) are more segregated; (iii) Estonian-speaking and Russian-speaking individuals are segregated based on language. Third, we investigate digital traces from mobile apps (like Twitter and Facebook) to predict socio-economic conditions (SEC). These SEC include education, gender, poverty, employment, and other factors. Therefore, reliable and accurate information is critical for social research and government policing. Using the app's usage patterns, our best model is able to estimate economic, educational, and demographic indicators (attaining an R-squared score up to 0.66). Furthermore, we report on the explainability of these models in order to identify the important features for prediction. We discover that mobile app usage patterns can reveal socio-economic disparities. Esiteks pakume välja kaks mobiilsusepõhise SIR-mudeli versiooni, (i) täielikult segatud ja (ii) keeruliste võrkude jaoks, mis võtavad arvesse CDR-i tegelikke interaktsioone. See töö on inspireeritud eeldusest, et mõne epideemia pandeemiaks muutumise peamine põhjus on globaalne seotus, mis muudab lihtsamaks suurema geograafilise piirkonna, sageli globaalse, mõjutamise. Lisaks ei ole rahvastiku jaotus, inimeste liikuvus ja sotsiaalne sidusus kogu maailmas ühtlane, mis mängib kriitilist rolli. Kasutasime oma mudelit COVID-19 juhtumite prognoosimiseks Eestis ja Prantsusmaal Rhône-Alpes. Teiseks uurime CDR-andmete abil ühiskondlikku segregatsiooni Eestis. Meie tulemused viitavad sellele, et (i) Eestis esineb sooline segregatsioon ja selle jäljed on nähtavad nii inimeste helistamisaegades, vanuserühmade ühenduvuses, eelistatud suhtluskeeles kui ka maakonnas; (ii) Peamised töötavad isikud (st (25–54) vanuserühm) ja vanurid (s.o (64–100) vanuserühm) on rohkem segregeeritud; (iii) Eesti- ja venekeelsed isikud on keelepõhiselt eraldatud. Kolmandaks uurime sotsiaal-majanduslike tingimuste (SEC) ennustamiseks mobiilirakenduste (nt Twitter ja Facebook) digitaalseid jälgi. Need tingimused hõlmavad haridust, sugu, vaesust, tööhõivet ja muid tegureid. Seetõttu on usaldusväärne ja täpne teave sotsiaaluuringute ja valitsuse politseitöö jaoks ülioluline. Rakenduste kasutusmustreid kasutades suudab meie parim mudel hinnata majanduslikke, hariduslikke ja demograafilisi näitajaid (saavutades R-ruudu skoori kuni 0,66). Lisaks anname aru nende mudelite seletatavuse kohta, et teha kindlaks prognoosimise olulised tunnused.
