    Cet article part du constat d'une hétérogénéité spatio-temporelle de la déforestation dans le nord du Bénin au cours des quatre dernières décennies. Pour explorer les raisons sous-jacentes de ces disparités spatiales, nous avons mené une enquête approfondie auprès des résidents des territoires où le couvert ligneux a connu des évolutions s’écartant sensiblement de la tendance régionale. En utilisant des méthodes statistiques textuelles, notre analyse de ces entretiens a fourni des perspectives plus approfondies sur les nuances locales spécifiques dans les perceptions de la population concernant les transformations environnementales en cours au sein de leurs territoires. Nos enquêtes ont également mis en évidence une aggravation des inégalités sociales et foncières qui touche l’ensemble de la région. La poursuite de la déforestation au Nord du Bénin ainsi que le sentiment de vulnérabilité économique et sociale exprimé par les populations interrogées trouvent un écho à des situations déjà observées dans plusieurs autres régions rurales d’Afrique de l’Ouest. This article begins by observing the spatio-temporal heterogeneity of deforestation in Northern Benin over the past four decades. In order to understand the underlying reasons for these spatial disparities, we conducted a thorough inquiry among residents of areas where woody cover has diverged significantly from the regional trend. Utilizing textual statistical methods, our analysis of these interviews has yielded deeper insights into specific local nuances in the population's perceptions of the ongoing environmental changes within their territories. Furthermore, our investigations have underscored a worsening of social and land inequalities that impact the entire region. The persistence of deforestation in Northern Benin, alongside the expression of economic and social vulnerability among the surveyed populations, mirrors situations already observed in several other rural regions of West Africa. Este artículo se sostiene en la constatación de la heterogeneidad espaciotemporal del proceso de deforestación que se ha desarrollado en el norte de Benín durante las últimas cuatro décadas. Para explorar las razones subyacentes de tales disparidades espaciales, realizamos una encuesta en profundidad a residentes de los territorios donde la cobertura/uso de suelo ha experimentado cambios que se desvían significativamente de la tendencia regional. Utilizando métodos estadísticos textuales, nuestro análisis de las entrevistas proporcionaron robustos conocimientos en los matices locales de las percepciones de los habitantes respecto a las transformaciones ambientales que se desarrollan en sus territorios. Además, el muestreo aplicado permite apreciar un incremento de las desigualdades sociales y en variaciones de la cobertura/uso de suelo que afecta a toda la región. La actual deforestación en el norte de Benín, así como el sentimiento de vulnerabilidad económica y social expresado por los habitantes entrevistados, reflejan situaciones que ya han sido observadas en otras regiones rurales de África occidental.

    The practice of agrarian rites, especially of offering (alms, tithe ...), has currently declined in a dramatic way in the Zemmour region, located between the cities of Rabat and Meknes, because of two facts. One, exogenous, is due to the introduction and development of new ideas aimed at challenging the worship of saints; the other, endogenous, is reduced to the reaction of rural people against the abuses of certain individuals claiming to be descendants of the Prophet or of a saint. Actuellement, dans la région des Zemmour, située entre les villes de Rabat et de Meknès, la pratique des rites agraires et, spécialement, de l’offrande (aumône, dîme...), a reculé de manière spectaculaire en raison de deux faits. L’un, exogène, consiste dans l’introduction et le développement de nouvelles idées destinées à la remise en question du culte des saints ; l’autre, endogène, se réduit à la réaction des ruraux contre les abus de certains individus se disant être des descendants du Prophète ou d’un saint.

    Cet article se penche sur le processus de digitalisation qui touche aujourd’hui les espaces naturels et notamment la forêt.Comment les loisirs sportifs en forêt ont-ils été affectés par le déploiement de leurs digitalisations possibles ? Quelles sont les activités qui se prêtent le plus à la digitalisation et celles qui semblent résister à ces offres ?Cet article propose d’étudier des niveaux et des formes de digitalisation des activités, et d’examiner en particulier ce qui, avec les possibilités de géolocalisation (GPS), affecte ou non la socialisation de la forêt d’une part, la territorialisation des activités d’autre part.Le terrain d’étude est constitué par l’ensemble des massifs forestiers de la Métropole Rouen Normandie.Outre les observations de terrain (N≈150) l’article prend appui sur la méthode mixte qui combinent une enquête quantitative par questionnaire (n=332) ; la collecte de traces numériques (N≈1000) laissées par les pratiquants de loisirs sportifs équipés de dispositifs de traçage et une enquête qualitative par l’intermédiaire d’entretiens semi-directifs (N=10).La première partie de l’article décrit le terrain d’étude, le matériel et les méthodes de recueil employés et distingue deux catégories de pratiquants de loisirs sportifs en forêt en fonction de l’utilisation du numérique. Dans un deuxième temps, l’article se centre sur un profil particulier : des hyper-pratiquants qui utilisent le numérique dans la mesure et dans l’exploration du milieu. Enfin, les résultats obtenus sont discutés à l’aide d’une typologie qui croise l’utilisation du numérique dans la logique motrice et la perception du milieu de l’espace de pratique comme un milieu ou un stade. Cette dernière partie sera l’occasion de faire dialoguer les pratiques de loisirs en forêt et dans les espaces de montagne.

    This article looks at the trend toward digitalisation and how it is affecting natural spaces, especially forests. How have forest sports activities been affected by the deployment of digitalised equipment? Which activities lend themselves to digitalisation and which seem to resist it?This article presents the findings on the levels and forms of the digitalisation of outdoor sports activities. The study focused on what − given the possibilities of geolocation (GPS) − affects or does not affect the socialisation of the forest and the territorialisation of activities.The study area was made up of all the forest areas of the Rouen Normandy metropolis. In addition to field observations (n≈150), the study used mixed methods, combining a quantitative survey by questionnaire (n=332), the collection of digital traces (n≈1000) left by leisure sports practitioners equipped with tracking devices, and a qualitative investigation through semi-structured interviews (n=10).In the first section of this article, the study area, material, and data collection methods are described, as are the two categories of forest leisure sports practitioners distinguished on the basis of their use of digital technology. Second, the article focuses on a particular profile: hyper-practitioners who use digital technology for measurement and for the exploration of the environment. Last, the results are discussed using a typology that crosses the use of digital technology with regard to motor logic and the perceptions of the forest practice space as an environment or a stadium. This last part will be an opportunity to find commonalities between the forest and mountain areas for leisure practices.

    À partir de données issues de l’Observatoire mondial des soutiens publics à l’agriculture et à l’alimentation, cet article vise à analyser et comprendre le fonctionnement actuel des soutiens publics tout en évaluant dans quelle mesure ils sont effectivement orientés vers la promotion de systèmes agricoles durables. À l’aide d’une analyse d’économie politique des soutiens publics, nous montrerons au niveau global les différences de soutien et le manque d’outils et de dispositifs financés pour accélérer les transitions agricoles. Based on data from the Global Observatory of Public Support for Agriculture and Food, this article aims to analyze and understand the current functioning of public support, while assessing the extent to which it is effectively oriented towards the promotion of sustainable agricultural systems. Through a political economy analysis of public support, we will show the differences in support and the lack of tools and financed mechanisms to accelerate agricultural transitions at the global level. A partir de datos obtenidos del Observatorio mundial de ayudas públicas a la agricultura y a la alimentación, este artículo se propone analizar y comprender el funcionamiento actual de las ayudas públicas evaluando, al mismo tiempo, en qué medida estas se orientan hacia la promoción de los sistemas agrícolas sostenibles. Gracias a un análisis de economía política de las ayudas públicas, mostraremos a escala global las diferencias de apoyo y la falta de instrumentos financiados para acelerar las transiciones agrícolas.

    Dans l’agriculture, le commerce, la restauration, l’artisanat, le chef d’entreprise est aussi un « chef » de famille qui compte sur l’appui de ses membres pour le seconder dans son activité. La création d’une très petite entreprise (TPE) est souvent envisagée comme un projet de vie qui concerne plusieurs membres de la cellule familiale. L’articulation entre la famille et le travail constitue une force et une faiblesse pour l’entreprise. L’attachement du couple à l’entreprise est une force mais le travail souvent non salarié des femmes, une faiblesse qui fragilise l’entreprise en cas de rupture familiale (décès, divorce, ou accident). Avant d’entraîner une fragilisation de la TPE, l’articulation famille/travail peut aussi être la cause de tensions et de rupture. Setting up a very small business is often seen as a life project that involves several members of the family unit. The link between family and work is both a strength and a weakness for the business. The couple's attachment to the business is a strength, but the fact that women are often self-employed is a weakness, making the business vulnerable in the event of a family breakdown (death, divorce or accident). Before weakening the VSE, the family/work relationship can also be the cause of tension and breakdown. En la agricultura, el comercio, la restauración y la artesanía, el empresario es también el "cabeza" de la familia, que cuenta con el apoyo de otros miembros de la familia para ayudarle en el negocio. La creación de una empresa muy pequeña se considera a menudo como un proyecto de vida que implica a varios miembros de la unidad familiar. El vínculo entre familia y trabajo es a la vez un punto fuerte y un punto débil para la empresa.     Food problems are the order of the day. Solving the problems of hunger and malnutrition, producing and guaranteeing access to healthy food, preserving the environment, valuing local cultures and ensuring citizen participation are some of the many challenges that permeate the dynamics of food systems. This book addresses the role of Latin American public policies and actions in the configuration of healthy and sustainable food systems. Written by scholars specialized in various disciplines (economy, sociology, policy science, etc.) and hailing from ten Latin American countries, it provides a historical overview of national food policies, examines recent policy changes and explores innovative urban and rural experiences at local level. The authors also discuss the challenges of developing specific policy objectives related to sustainable food systems. This book shows how référentiels for public food policies have become more integrated in Latin America and takes a closer look at several promising local initiatives. However, it also highlights the many constraints in fostering sustainable food systems in the region, such as persistent competition among production models, land tenure inequalities and coordination issues among actors and state bodies. It will be of interest to a scientific audience of teachers and food systems professionals, as well as any readers interested in policy dynamics in Latin America.

    Au Sénégal, l’agriculture est majoritairement pluviale et fortement dépendante de services météorologiques. Ainsi, toute information sur la pluviométrie à venir est importante pour les cultivateurs afin d’anticiper l’arrivée tardive des pluies ou d’années particulièrement sèches. En pays sereer (région de Fatick), les Saltigui (devins) participent à ce travail d’anticipation de la saison des pluies à travers des pratiques de divination qui permettent d’envisager le déroulement de l’hivernage à venir. Par le canal des cérémonies réalisées annuellement, les Xooy, les Saltigui partagent le savoir qu’ils ont obtenu à la fois des esprits et des connaissances qu’ils ont eux-mêmes du territoire et de ses signes. Par une analyse des discours et des pratiques des Saltigui, cet article aborde le travail d’assemblage sur lequel repose la « prédiction météorologique » des Saltigui. Nous montrons le rôle d’intermédiaire qu’assure le Saltigui, entre le monde des esprits, le monde des vivants et la nature. Les Saltigui, à travers les Xooy, véhiculent et partagent un savoir local, lié à un territoire spécifique et issu d’un ensemble de croyances et de pratiques ancrées dans l’histoire. Ce cas particulier permet d’envisager les « savoirs écologiques locaux » dans une forme de totalité située. D’une part, la pluie est positionnée comme une facette de la vie collective, et non comme un domaine de connaissance isolé du reste des préoccupations villageoises. D’autre part, au-delà de l’annonce de l’hivernage, les Saltigui font aussi un travail de purification de l’espace physique et symbolique avant l’hivernage, puis des propositions pour conjurer les éventuelles prédictions néfastes. L’acte de prédiction doit donc être compris comme un élément d’un ensemble plus large dans lequel il prend son sens. Ces observations invitent à considérer avec prudence le projet contemporain qui consiste à vouloir intégrer des « savoirs locaux » aux formes modernes de prévisions scientifiques. Agriculture in Senegal is predominantly rain-fed and depends heavily on meteorological services. Any information on future rainfall is therefore important for farmers to anticipate the delayed arrivals of rains or particularly dry years. In Sereer countryside (Fatick region), the Saltigui (diviners) take part in this work of anticipating the rainy season through divination practices that enable them to predict the course of the coming rainy season. Through their annual ceremonies named Xooy, the Saltigui share the knowledge they have obtained both from the spirits and from their own knowledge of the land and its signs. Through an analysis of the Saltigui’s discourse and practices, this article adresses the assembly work on which the Saltigui’s ‘meteorological prediction’ is based. We demonstrate the Saltigui’s role as intermediary between the spirit world, the living world and the nature. Through their Xooy, the Saltigui convey and share a local knowledge, linked to a specific territory and stemming from a set of beliefs and practices rooted in history. This particular case allows us to consider ‘local ecological knowledge’ as a form of situated totality. On one hand, rain is perceived positioned as a facet of collective life, and not as a field of knowledge isolated from the rest of the village’s concerns. On the other hand, in addition to announcing the onset of the rainy season, the Saltigui also purify the physical and symbolic space prior to the rainy season, and then make proposals to ward off any harmful predictions. The predictive act must therefore be understood as part of a larger whole in which it takes on its full meaning. These observations prompt us to take a cautious approach to the contemporary project of integrating ‘local knowledge’ into modern forms of scientific forecasting.

    Aujourd’hui, qu’il s’agisse du fonctionnement interne des organisations publiques ou des pratiques démocratiques, la transformation des espaces organisés par l’introduction de technologies de l’information et de communication toujours plus sophistiquées force une reconceptualisation des modes d’organisation de ces espaces vers de nouvelles configurations. Ces nouvelles configurations ont des impacts importants sur l’éthos public, à travers des enjeux comme la non-neutralité des outils de calculabilité comme l’intelligence artificielle, la privatisation de la réflexion publique ou encore une gouvernance par les nombres qui supplante progressivement la délibération humaine. Cet article montre comment, par l’analyse de certains impacts sur les organisations publiques à l’aune de la conception traditionnelle du bureau, l’espace numérique transforme l’éthos public sous de multiples aspects. Today, whether it concerns the internal functioning of public organizations or democratic practices, the transformation of organized spaces by the introduction of increasingly sophisticated information and communication technologies is forcing a reconceptualization of the ways in which these spaces are organized towards new configurations. These new configurations have significant impacts on the public ethos, through issues such as the non-neutrality of calculation tools like artificial intelligence, the privatization of public reflection or governance by numbers, which is gradually supplanting human deliberation. By analyzing certain impacts on public organizations in the light of the traditional conception of the office, this article shows how the digital space is transforming the public ethos.

    Cet article part du constat d'une hétérogénéité spatio-temporelle de la déforestation dans le nord du Bénin au cours des quatre dernières décennies. Pour explorer les raisons sous-jacentes de ces disparités spatiales, nous avons mené une enquête approfondie auprès des résidents des territoires où le couvert ligneux a connu des évolutions s’écartant sensiblement de la tendance régionale. En utilisant des méthodes statistiques textuelles, notre analyse de ces entretiens a fourni des perspectives plus approfondies sur les nuances locales spécifiques dans les perceptions de la population concernant les transformations environnementales en cours au sein de leurs territoires. Nos enquêtes ont également mis en évidence une aggravation des inégalités sociales et foncières qui touche l’ensemble de la région. La poursuite de la déforestation au Nord du Bénin ainsi que le sentiment de vulnérabilité économique et sociale exprimé par les populations interrogées trouvent un écho à des situations déjà observées dans plusieurs autres régions rurales d’Afrique de l’Ouest. This article begins by observing the spatio-temporal heterogeneity of deforestation in Northern Benin over the past four decades. In order to understand the underlying reasons for these spatial disparities, we conducted a thorough inquiry among residents of areas where woody cover has diverged significantly from the regional trend. Utilizing textual statistical methods, our analysis of these interviews has yielded deeper insights into specific local nuances in the population's perceptions of the ongoing environmental changes within their territories. Furthermore, our investigations have underscored a worsening of social and land inequalities that impact the entire region. The persistence of deforestation in Northern Benin, alongside the expression of economic and social vulnerability among the surveyed populations, mirrors situations already observed in several other rural regions of West Africa. Este artículo se sostiene en la constatación de la heterogeneidad espaciotemporal del proceso de deforestación que se ha desarrollado en el norte de Benín durante las últimas cuatro décadas. Para explorar las razones subyacentes de tales disparidades espaciales, realizamos una encuesta en profundidad a residentes de los territorios donde la cobertura/uso de suelo ha experimentado cambios que se desvían significativamente de la tendencia regional. Utilizando métodos estadísticos textuales, nuestro análisis de las entrevistas proporcionaron robustos conocimientos en los matices locales de las percepciones de los habitantes respecto a las transformaciones ambientales que se desarrollan en sus territorios. Además, el muestreo aplicado permite apreciar un incremento de las desigualdades sociales y en variaciones de la cobertura/uso de suelo que afecta a toda la región.     The practice of agrarian rites, especially of offering (alms, tithe ...), has currently declined in a dramatic way in the Zemmour region, located between the cities of Rabat and Meknes, because of two facts. One, exogenous, is due to the introduction and development of new ideas aimed at challenging the worship of saints; the other, endogenous, is reduced to the reaction of rural people against the abuses of certain individuals claiming to be descendants of the Prophet or of a saint. Actuellement, dans la région des Zemmour, située entre les villes de Rabat et de Meknès, la pratique des rites agraires et, spécialement, de l’offrande (aumône, dîme...), a reculé de manière spectaculaire en raison de deux faits. L’un, exogène, consiste dans l’introduction et le développement de nouvelles idées destinées à la remise en question du culte des saints ; l’autre, endogène, se réduit à la réaction des ruraux contre les abus de certains individus se disant être des descendants du Prophète ou d’un saint.

    Cet article se penche sur le processus de digitalisation qui touche aujourd’hui les espaces naturels et notamment la forêt.Comment les loisirs sportifs en forêt ont-ils été affectés par le déploiement de leurs digitalisations possibles ? Quelles sont les activités qui se prêtent le plus à la digitalisation et celles qui semblent résister à ces offres ?Cet article propose d’étudier des niveaux et des formes de digitalisation des activités, et d’examiner en particulier ce qui, avec les possibilités de géolocalisation (GPS), affecte ou non la socialisation de la forêt d’une part, la territorialisation des activités d’autre part.Le terrain d’étude est constitué par l’ensemble des massifs forestiers de la Métropole Rouen Normandie.Outre les observations de terrain (N≈150) l’article prend appui sur la méthode mixte qui combinent une enquête quantitative par questionnaire (n=332) ; la collecte de traces numériques (N≈1000) laissées par les pratiquants de loisirs sportifs équipés de dispositifs de traçage et une enquête qualitative par l’intermédiaire d’entretiens semi-directifs (N=10).La première partie de l’article décrit le terrain d’étude, le matériel et les méthodes de recueil employés et distingue deux catégories de pratiquants de loisirs sportifs en forêt en fonction de l’utilisation du numérique. Dans un deuxième temps, l’article se centre sur un profil particulier : des hyper-pratiquants qui utilisent le numérique dans la mesure et dans l’exploration du milieu. Enfin, les résultats obtenus sont discutés à l’aide d’une typologie qui croise l’utilisation du numérique dans la logique motrice et la perception du milieu de l’espace de pratique comme un milieu ou un stade. Cette dernière partie sera l’occasion de faire dialoguer les pratiques de loisirs en forêt et dans les espaces de montagne.

    This article looks at the trend toward digitalisation and how it is affecting natural spaces, especially forests. How have forest sports activities been affected by the deployment of digitalised equipment? Which activities lend themselves to digitalisation and which seem to resist it?This article presents the findings on the levels and forms of the digitalisation of outdoor sports activities. The study focused on what − given the possibilities of geolocation (GPS) − affects or does not affect the socialisation of the forest and the territorialisation of activities.The study area was made up of all the forest areas of the Rouen Normandy metropolis. In addition to field observations (n≈150), the study used mixed methods, combining a quantitative survey by questionnaire (n=332), the collection of digital traces (n≈1000) left by leisure sports practitioners equipped with tracking devices, and a qualitative investigation through semi-structured interviews (n=10).In the first section of this article, the study area, material, and data collection methods are described, as are the two categories of forest leisure sports practitioners distinguished on the basis of their use of digital technology. Second, the article focuses on a particular profile: hyper-practitioners who use digital technology for measurement and for the exploration of the environment. Last, the results are discussed using a typology that crosses the use of digital technology with regard to motor logic and the perceptions of the forest practice space as an environment or a stadium. This last part will be an opportunity to find commonalities between the forest and mountain areas for leisure practices.

    À partir de données issues de l’Observatoire mondial des soutiens publics à l’agriculture et à l’alimentation, cet article vise à analyser et comprendre le fonctionnement actuel des soutiens publics tout en évaluant dans quelle mesure ils sont effectivement orientés vers la promotion de systèmes agricoles durables. À l’aide d’une analyse d’économie politique des soutiens publics, nous montrerons au niveau global les différences de soutien et le manque d’outils et de dispositifs financés pour accélérer les transitions agricoles. Based on data from the Global Observatory of Public Support for Agriculture and Food, this article aims to analyze and understand the current functioning of public support, while assessing the extent to which it is effectively oriented towards the promotion of sustainable agricultural systems. Through a political economy analysis of public support, we will show the differences in support and the lack of tools and financed mechanisms to accelerate agricultural transitions at the global level. A partir de datos obtenidos del Observatorio mundial de ayudas públicas a la agricultura y a la alimentación, este artículo se propone analizar y comprender el funcionamiento actual de las ayudas públicas evaluando, al mismo tiempo, en qué medida estas se orientan hacia la promoción de los sistemas agrícolas sostenibles. Gracias a un análisis de economía política de las ayudas públicas, mostraremos a escala global las diferencias de apoyo y la falta de instrumentos financiados para acelerar las transiciones agrícolas.

    Dans l’agriculture, le commerce, la restauration, l’artisanat, le chef d’entreprise est aussi un « chef » de famille qui compte sur l’appui de ses membres pour le seconder dans son activité. La création d’une très petite entreprise (TPE) est souvent envisagée comme un projet de vie qui concerne plusieurs membres de la cellule familiale. L’articulation entre la famille et le travail constitue une force et une faiblesse pour l’entreprise. L’attachement du couple à l’entreprise est une force mais le travail souvent non salarié des femmes, une faiblesse qui fragilise l’entreprise en cas de rupture familiale (décès, divorce, ou accident). Avant d’entraîner une fragilisation de la TPE, l’articulation famille/travail peut aussi être la cause de tensions et de rupture. In agriculture, commerce, catering and the craft sector, the business owner is also the 'head' of the family, relying on the support of other family members to help him or her in the business. Setting up a very small business is often seen as a life project that involves several members of the family unit. The link between family and work is both a strength and a weakness for the business. The couple's attachment to the business is a strength, but the fact that women are often self-employed is a weakness, making the business vulnerable in the event of a family breakdown (death, divorce or accident). Before weakening the VSE, the family/work relationship can also be the cause of tension and breakdown. En la agricultura, el comercio, la restauración y la artesanía, el empresario es también el "cabeza" de la familia, que cuenta con el apoyo de otros miembros de la familia para ayudarle en el negocio. La creación de una empresa muy pequeña se considera a menudo como un proyecto de vida que implica a varios miembros de la unidad familiar. El vínculo entre familia y trabajo es a la vez un punto fuerte y un punto débil para la empresa. El apego de la pareja a la empresa es un punto fuerte, pero el hecho de que las mujeres trabajen a menudo por cuenta propia es un punto débil, que hace que la empresa sea vulnerable en caso de ruptura familiar (fallecimiento, divorcio o accidente).     Food problems are the order of the day. Solving the problems of hunger and malnutrition, producing and guaranteeing access to healthy food, preserving the environment, valuing local cultures and ensuring citizen participation are some of the many challenges that permeate the dynamics of food systems. This book addresses the role of Latin American public policies and actions in the configuration of healthy and sustainable food systems. Written by scholars specialized in various disciplines (economy, sociology, policy science, etc.) and hailing from ten Latin American countries, it provides a historical overview of national food policies, examines recent policy changes and explores innovative urban and rural experiences at local level. The authors also discuss the challenges of developing specific policy objectives related to sustainable food systems. This book shows how référentiels for public food policies have become more integrated in Latin America and takes a closer look at several promising local initiatives. However, it also highlights the many constraints in fostering sustainable food systems in the region, such as persistent competition among production models, land tenure inequalities and coordination issues among actors and state bodies. It will be of interest to a scientific audience of teachers and food systems professionals, as well as any readers interested in policy dynamics in Latin America.

    Au Sénégal, l’agriculture est majoritairement pluviale et fortement dépendante de services météorologiques. Ainsi, toute information sur la pluviométrie à venir est importante pour les cultivateurs afin d’anticiper l’arrivée tardive des pluies ou d’années particulièrement sèches. En pays sereer (région de Fatick), les Saltigui (devins) participent à ce travail d’anticipation de la saison des pluies à travers des pratiques de divination qui permettent d’envisager le déroulement de l’hivernage à venir. Par le canal des cérémonies réalisées annuellement, les Xooy, les Saltigui partagent le savoir qu’ils ont obtenu à la fois des esprits et des connaissances qu’ils ont eux-mêmes du territoire et de ses signes. Par une analyse des discours et des pratiques des Saltigui, cet article aborde le travail d’assemblage sur lequel repose la « prédiction météorologique » des Saltigui. Nous montrons le rôle d’intermédiaire qu’assure le Saltigui, entre le monde des esprits, le monde des vivants et la nature. Les Saltigui, à travers les Xooy, véhiculent et partagent un savoir local, lié à un territoire spécifique et issu d’un ensemble de croyances et de pratiques ancrées dans l’histoire. Ce cas particulier permet d’envisager les « savoirs écologiques locaux » dans une forme de totalité située. D’une part, la pluie est positionnée comme une facette de la vie collective, et non comme un domaine de connaissance isolé du reste des préoccupations villageoises. D’autre part, au-delà de l’annonce de l’hivernage, les Saltigui font aussi un travail de purification de l’espace physique et symbolique avant l’hivernage, puis des propositions pour conjurer les éventuelles prédictions néfastes. L’acte de prédiction doit donc être compris comme un élément d’un ensemble plus large dans lequel il prend son sens. Ces observations invitent à considérer avec prudence le projet contemporain qui consiste à vouloir intégrer des « savoirs locaux » aux formes modernes de prévisions scientifiques. Agriculture in Senegal is predominantly rain-fed and depends heavily on meteorological services. Any information on future rainfall is therefore important for farmers to anticipate the delayed arrivals of rains or particularly dry years. In Sereer countryside (Fatick region), the Saltigui (diviners) take part in this work of anticipating the rainy season through divination practices that enable them to predict the course of the coming rainy season. Through their annual ceremonies named Xooy, the Saltigui share the knowledge they have obtained both from the spirits and from their own knowledge of the land and its signs. Through an analysis of the Saltigui’s discourse and practices, this article adresses the assembly work on which the Saltigui’s ‘meteorological prediction’ is based. We demonstrate the Saltigui’s role as intermediary between the spirit world, the living world and the nature. Through their Xooy, the Saltigui convey and share a local knowledge, linked to a specific territory and stemming from a set of beliefs and practices rooted in history. This particular case allows us to consider ‘local ecological knowledge’ as a form of situated totality. On one hand, rain is perceived positioned as a facet of collective life, and not as a field of knowledge isolated from the rest of the village’s concerns. On the other hand, in addition to announcing the onset of the rainy season, the Saltigui also purify the physical and symbolic space prior to the rainy season, and then make proposals to ward off any harmful predictions. The predictive act must therefore be understood as part of a larger whole in which it takes on its full meaning. These observations prompt us to take a cautious approach to the contemporary project of integrating ‘local knowledge’ into modern forms of scientific forecasting.

    Aujourd’hui, qu’il s’agisse du fonctionnement interne des organisations publiques ou des pratiques démocratiques, la transformation des espaces organisés par l’introduction de technologies de l’information et de communication toujours plus sophistiquées force une reconceptualisation des modes d’organisation de ces espaces vers de nouvelles configurations. Ces nouvelles configurations ont des impacts importants sur l’éthos public, à travers des enjeux comme la non-neutralité des outils de calculabilité comme l’intelligence artificielle, la privatisation de la réflexion publique ou encore une gouvernance par les nombres qui supplante progressivement la délibération humaine. Cet article montre comment, par l’analyse de certains impacts sur les organisations publiques à l’aune de la conception traditionnelle du bureau, l’espace numérique transforme l’éthos public sous de multiples aspects. Today, whether it concerns the internal functioning of public organizations or democratic practices, the transformation of organized spaces by the introduction of increasingly sophisticated information and communication technologies is forcing a reconceptualization of the ways in which these spaces are organized towards new configurations. These new configurations have significant impacts on the public ethos, through issues such as the non-neutrality of calculation tools like artificial intelligence, the privatization of public reflection or governance by numbers, which is gradually supplanting human deliberation. By analyzing certain impacts on public organizations in the light of the traditional conception of the office, this article shows how the digital space is transforming the public ethos.
