High-quality agricultural multi-view stereo reconstruction technology is the key to precision and informatization in agriculture. Multi-view stereo reconstruction methods are an important part of 3D vision technology. In the multi-view stereo 3D reconstruction method based on deep learning, the effect of feature extraction directly affects the accuracy of reconstruction. Aiming at the actual problems in orchard fruit tree reconstruction, this paper designs an improved multi-view stereo structure based on the combination of remote sensing and artificial intelligence to realize the accurate reconstruction of jujube tree trunks. Firstly, an automatic key frame extraction method is proposed for the DSST target tracking algorithm to quickly recognize and extract high-quality data. Secondly, a composite U-Net feature extraction network is designed to enhance the reconstruction accuracy, while the DRE-Net feature extraction enhancement network improved by the parallel self-attention mechanism enhances the reconstruction completeness. Comparison tests show different levels of improvement on the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) dataset compared to other deep learning-based methods. Ablation test on the self-constructed dataset, the MVSNet + Co U-Net + DRE-Net_SA method proposed in this paper improves 20.4% in Accuracy, 12.8% in Completion, and 16.8% in Overall compared to the base model, which verifies the real effectiveness of the scheme.

Extraction of lake water bodies from remote sensing images provides reliable data support for water resource management, environmental protection, natural disaster early warning, and scientific research, and helps to promote sustainable development, protect the ecological environment and human health. With reference to the classical encoding-decoding semantic segmentation network, we propose the network model R50A3-LWBENet for lake water body extraction from remote sensing images based on ResNet50 and three attention mechanisms. R50A3-LWBENet model uses ResNet50 for feature extraction, also known as encoding, and squeeze and excitation (SE) block is added to the residual module, which highlights the deeper features of the water body part of the feature map during the down-sampling process, and also takes into account the importance of the feature map channels, which can better capture the multiscale relationship between pixels. After the feature extraction is completed, the convolutional block attention module (CBAM) is added to give the model a global adaptive perception capability and pay more attention to the water body part of the image. The feature map is up-sampled using bilinear interpolation, and the features at different levels are fused, a process also known as decoding, to finalize the extraction of the lake water body. Compared with U-Net, AU-Net, RU-Net, ARU-Net, SER34AUNet, and MU-Net, the R50A3-LWBENet model has the fastest convergence speed and the highest MIoU accuracy with a value of 97.6%, which is able to better combine global and local information, refine the edge contours of the lake’s water body, and have stronger feature extraction capability and segmentation performance.

Physical activity analysis assessment has been a concern throughout human history. The intersection of technological growth with sports has given rise to a burgeoning field known as sports engineering. In the 19th century, the advent of chrono-photography and pioneering marked the inception of sports performance analysis. In recent years, the noticeable developments achieved in wearable low-power electronics with wireless high interconnection capability, as a part of modern technologies, have aided us in studying sports parameters such as motor behavior, biomechanics, equipment design, and materials science, playing an essential role in the understanding of sports dynamics. This study aims to review over 250 published articles since 2018, focusing on utilizing and validating these emergent technologies in sports and clinical aspects. It is predicted that one of the next steps in sports technology and engineering development will be using algorithms based on artificial intelligence to analyze the measurements obtained by multi-sensor systems (sensor fusion) to monitor biometric and physiological parameters in performance analysis and health assessments.

Digital twins are a powerful consequence of digital transformation. In fact, they have been applied to many industries to enhance operations, predict needs, improve decision making, or optimize performance, even though the definition of digital twins is still evolving. However, their impact on the software industry is still limited. Thus, this work aims to analyze the current adoption of digital twins in the software industry as a potential path to integrate them into application lifecycle management. To achieve this objective, first, the significant characteristics of current digital twins are analyzed in their application to manufacturing to understand how the knowledge and the lessons learned can be transferred to the software industry. Second, a systematic literature review was conducted on Scopus, the Web of Science, and the ScienceDirect database. The literature review revealed 93 documents after data screening and cleaning 251 initial documents. Our main findings are that digital twins are already influencing and will significantly affect the software industry, revolutionizing various aspects of the software development lifecycle. This study tackles what identifies a digital twin in the software industry, the specific domains and areas where they can be applied in the software lifecycle, and the proposed approaches explored to build digital twins for developing, deploying, and maintaining software systems. Finally, this study proposes some guidelines for building digital twins in the context of application lifecycle management. Determining an appropriate roadmap shortly is essential to achieve a widespread applicability to building suitable digital twins and preparing organizations for the software industry.

The current work is focused on studying the performance of the Pecora–Carroll synchronization technique to achieve synchronization between the analog and discrete chaos oscillators. The importance of this study is supported by the growing applications of chaotic systems for improving the security of data transmission in various communication layers, primarily on the physical layer. The hybrid analog-discrete approach of implementing chaos oscillators opens new possible communication schemes for wireless sensor network (WSN) applications. The analog implementation of chaos oscillators can benefit the simpler sensor node (SN) integration, while the discrete implementation can be used on the gateway. However, the core of such chaos-based communications is synchronizing analog and discrete chaos oscillators. This work studies two key parameters of analog-discrete chaotic synchronization: chaotic synchronization noise immunity and synchronization speed. The noise immunity study demonstrates the quality of synchronization at various noise levels, while the synchronization speed demonstrates how quickly the analog-discrete synchronization is achieved, along with how quickly the two systems diverge when synchronization is no longer present. The two studies use both simulation-based and hardware-based approaches. In the simulation case, the analog oscillator’s circuit is modeled in LTspice XVII, while in the hardware case, the circuit is implemented on the PCB. In both simulation and hardware studies, the discrete model of the oscillator is implemented in MATLAB R2023b. The studies are performed for two pairs of different chaos oscillators to widen the proposed approach application potential: the Vilnius and RC chaos oscillators. The oscillators have been selected due to their simplicity and similar dynamic behavior for model-based and electrical circuit implementation. The proposed approach also allows us to compare the synchronization of different oscillators in the analog-discrete implementation.

The ageing of populations is increasing pressure on health and social care systems. Potentially, assistive technologies are a way to support the independence of older adults in their daily activities. Among existing assistive technologies, ambient sensing technologies have received less attention than wearable systems. Moreover, there has been little research into cheaper technologies capable of using multiple modalities. A systematic review of the acceptability of assisted living or smart homes in the United Kingdom and the simultaneous use of sounds and vibrations in remote monitoring of assisted living or smart homes will inform and encourage the use of digital monitoring technologies. The acceptability of sensing technologies depends on whether there is any social stigma about their use, for example, the extent to which they invade privacy. The United Kingdom studies reviewed suggest a lack of measurements of the perceived efficacy or effectiveness of the monitoring devices. The primary use of vibration or acoustic technologies has been for detecting falls rather than monitoring health. The review findings suggest the need for further exploration of the acceptability and applicability of remote monitoring technologies, as well as a need for more research into the simultaneous use of sounds and vibrations in health monitoring.

Federated learning (FL) is a promising technique to provide intelligent services for the internet of things (IoT). By transmitting the model parameters instead of user data between the client and central server, FL greatly improves the user privacy and reduces transmission latency. However, due to the fading effects of the wireless channel, the outage of wireless transmission degenerates the learning efficiency when FL is applied in wireless IoT networks. In order to address this issue, we investigate the joint optimization of client selection and wireless resource allocation in FL-aided cellular IoT networks. By taking both the amount of training data and wireless resource consumption into consideration, we formulate the problem as a mixed integer non-linear programming to maximize the utility of the network. To solve the problem effectively, an alternative direction-based algorithm is proposed by decomposing the original problem into two sub problems. The simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm substantially improves the FL learning performance and reduces the consumption of wireless resources compared with existing methods.

The increasing integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) into daily life has led to significant changes in our social interactions. The advent of innovative IoT solutions, combined with the enhanced capabilities and expanded reach of 5G wireless networks, is altering the way humans interact with machines. Notably, the advancement of edge computing, underpinned by 5G networks within IoT frameworks, has markedly extended human sensory perception and interaction. A key biometric within these IoT applications is electroencephalography (EEG), recognized for its sensitivity, cost-effectiveness, and distinctiveness. Traditionally linked to brain–computer interface (BCI) applications, EEG is now finding applications in a wider array of fields, from neuroscience research to the emerging area of neuromarketing. The primary aim of this article is to offer a comprehensive review of the current challenges and future directions in EEG data acquisition, processing, and classification, with a particular focus on the increasing reliance on data-driven methods in the realm of 5G wireless network-supported EEG-enabled IoT solutions. Additionally, the article presents a case study on EEG-based emotion recognition, exemplifying EEG’s role as a biometric tool in the IoT domain, propelled by 5G technology.

In this study, we explored the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for posture detection in the context of ergonomics in the agricultural field. Leveraging computer vision and machine learning, we aim to overcome limitations in accuracy, robustness, and real-time application found in traditional approaches such as observation and direct measurement. We first collected field videos to capture real-world scenarios of workers in an outdoor plant nursery. Next, we labeled workers’ trunk postures into three distinct categories: neutral, slight forward bending and full forward bending. Then, through CNNs, transfer learning, and MoveNet, we investigated the effectiveness of different approaches in accurately classifying trunk postures. Specifically, MoveNet was utilized to extract key anatomical features, which were then fed into various classification algorithms including DT, SVM, RF and ANN. The best performance was obtained using MoveNet together with ANN (accuracy = 87.80%, precision = 87.46%, recall = 87.52%, and F1-score = 87.41%). The findings of this research contributed to the integration of computer vision techniques with ergonomic assessments especially in the outdoor field settings. The results highlighted the potential of correct posture classification systems to enhance health and safety prevention practices in the agricultural industry.
