    Tomato is a major crop in Paraguay, where it provides a source of employment and income for households. Tomato production can be affected by root-knot nematodes, especially Meloidogyne spp. The unequivocal identification of Meloidogyne spp. in Paraguay has not been conducted yet. This study aims to identify Meloidogyne species in eight tomato production districts of this country by biochemical and molecular techniques. Females of Meloidogyne spp. were extracted from tomato roots and characterized using esterase isozyme phenotypes. In addition, DNA was extracted from nematode eggs, and species-specific SCARs (sequence-characterized amplified regions) were used to confirm the diagnosis. Nematodes were detected in 100% of studied samples (prevalence), of which M. incognita (Est: I2, Rm: 1.1;1.2) and M. javanica (Est: J3, Rm: 1.0, 1.20, 1.35) were present in 39.13% and 26.08% of samples, respectively. One population (8.69%) of Meloidogyne sp. presenting an atypical esterase profile (Rm: 1.0 and 1.3) was only detected in Julián Augusto Saldívar District. Mixed populations, mostly M. incognita and M. javanica, were observed in 26.08% of samples. The SCAR primers incK14F/incK14R amplified specific fragments for M. incognita (399 bp) and M. javanica (670 bp), confirming the enzymatic results. Here, we present the first study of root-knot nematode identification at the species level in Paraguay.

    RESUMO Nas últimas décadas, a intensificação do processo de substituição da vegetação natural do Cerrado por áreas associadas às atividades antrópicas tem causado grandes impactos nas paisagens, nesse sentido, compreender a dinâmica dos diferentes sistemas ambientais em decorrência dos impactos causados pela variabilidade climática e pela ação humana, tem sido o esforço de vários pesquisadores. Assim, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o potencial do índice de vegetação por diferença normalizada (NDVI) aplicado a imagens do satélite LANDSAT 8 para discriminar as classes de vegetação no período úmido e seco em uma região do Cerrado mato-grossense. Os valores de NDVI foram obtidos através da razão entre a diferença das refletividades do infravermelho próximo (ρIV) e do vermelho (ρV), e os dados foram processados no programa QGIS versão 3.10. Os resultados dessa pesquisa permitem concluir que o índice de vegetação NDVI utilizado permitiu analisar a dinâmica da vegetação no Vale do São Lourenço - MT. A vegetação da área de estudo comportou-se de acordo com a disponibilidade de água no perfil do solo, com maiores valores do índice de vegetação na estação chuvosa e baixa atividade fotossintética na estação seca. ABSTRACT In recent decades, the intensification of the process of replacing the natural vegetation of the Cerrado by areas associated with human activities has caused great impacts on landscapes, in this sense, understanding the dynamics of different environmental systems because of the impacts caused by climate variability and action human, has been the effort of several researchers. Thus, the present work aimed to evaluate the potential of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) applied to LANDSAT 8 satellite images to discriminate vegetation classes in the wet and dry period in a Cerrado region of Mato Grosso. The NDVI values were obtained through the ratio between the difference between the near infrared (ρIV) and red (ρV) reflectivity’s, and the data were processed in the QGIS program version 3.10. The results of this research allow us to conclude that the NDVI vegetation index used allowed the analysis of the vegetation dynamics in Vale do São Lourenço - MT. The vegetation of the study area behaved according to the availability of water in the soil profile, with higher values of the vegetation index in the rainy season and low photosynthetic activity in the dry season.

    RESUMEN El algodón es un cultivo de gran importancia económica en todo el mundo. En Colombia las siembras han aumentado en los últimos años; no obstante, existen prácticas agronómicas que favorecen la degradación del suelo. El objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar la respuesta morfofisiológica y productiva de cuatro variedades de algodón, bajo el efecto de dos sistemas de labranza en condiciones de Armero-guayabal, Colombia. La investigación se realizó en el Centro Universitario Regional Norte (CURDN) de la Universidad del Tolima. El diseño experimental fue en parcelas subdivididas con bloques al azar con cuatro repeticiones. En la parcela principal se ubicó una labranza mínima (LM) y otra tradicional (LT) (reducida para LM usando arado de cincel y una labranza con volteo del suelo, con uso de rastra y rastrillo para LT). Las variedades manejadas fueron: RR, Nuopal RR, FM 9063 y FM9171Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis). Los resultados se sometieron al Análisis de Varianza (ANOVA) y pruebas de comparación de medias de Tukey y Bonferroni (p≤0,05). Los procesos de rotación de gramíneas y oleaginosas, en manejos agronómicos a largo plazo, presentan cambios significativos en la fertilidad potencial y efectiva edáfica, así como también, en los procesos de conservación, calidad y salud del suelo, en una zona históricamente con problemas edáficos en prácticas deficientes de laboreo. ABSTRACT Cotton is a crop of great economic importance throughout the world. In Colombia, plantings have increased in recent years; however, there are agronomic practices that favor soil degradation. The objective of the work was to evaluate the morphophysiological and productive response of four cotton varieties, under the effect of two tillage systems under conditions of Armero-guayabal, Colombia. The research was conducted at the North Regional University Center (CURDN) of the University of Tolima. The experimental design was sub-divided plots with randomized blocks with four replications. In the main plot, a minimum tillage (LM) and a traditional one (LT) were located (reduced for LM using a chisel plow and tillage with soil turning, with the use of a harrow and a rake for LT). The varieties managed were: RR, Nuopal RR, FM 9063 and FM9171Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis). The results were submitted to the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey and Bonferroni tests for comparison of means (p≤0.05). The processes of rotation of grasses and oilseeds, in long-term agronomic management, present significant changes in the potential and effective edaphic fertility, as well as in the processes of conservation, quality and health of the soil, in an area historically with edaphic problems in poor tillage practices.

    Introducción. Los bosques son los ecosistemas terrestres más diversos y cumplen funciones ambientales y ecológicas, sociales y económicas, ofrecen beneficios directos e indirectos al entorno, uno de los principales es el servicio de regulación. Objetivo. Analizar el servicio ecosistémico de regulación relacionado con el carbono almacenado y el aprovicionamiento de agua y nutrientes del bosque de galería del Arroyo San Lorenzo, Paraguay. Materiales y métodos. El trabajo se realizó en el bosque de galería del arroyo San Lorenzo, Paraguay. Fueron establecidas 4 parcelas de 750 m2 cada una para el relevamiento de los datos. Las variables estudiadas fueron: la composición florística, las propiedades físicas y químicas del suelo, la velocidad de infiltración media del agua y el carbono acumulado en el estrato arbóreo aéreo, radicular y suelo. Resultados. El bosque está constituido por individuos de la familia Meliaceae, Myrthaceae y Moraceae y en menor cantidad de especies se encuentran Cecropiaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Fabaceae, Rhamnaceae y la Sapotaceae. El carbono arbóreo almacenado fue de 38,4 tC.ha-1 y el del suelo (COS) fue de 31,08 tC.ha-1. El carbono total acumulado en los 2 componentes fue de 69,48 tC.ha-1 y el dióxido de carbono equivalente de 254,81 tCO2e.ha-1. El suelo es anegado y poco aireado, con baja conductividad hidráulica a partir de los 50 cm de la superficie y la velocidad de infiltración del agua fue de 66 mm.h-1. Conclusión. El bosque de galería ofrece servicios de captación de carbono, lo que constituye la biomasa arbórea el mayor reservorio de carbono, provisión de agua para la conservación y fuente del aprovisionamiento de nutrientes del suelo de la sub cuenca del arroyo San Lorenzo, Paraguay.

    Abstract Genetic variation among host plants can influence herbivore behaviour and consequently their abundance, performance and environmental impact. In the Andean‐Patagonian forest, the arboreal vegetation is dominated by species of genus Nothofagus. Previous studies of Nothofagus alpina demonstrated differences in genetic diversity among and within its populations. The native caterpillar Perzelia arda feeds on various Nothofagus sp. Our aim was to evaluate host selection behaviour of P. arda larvae towards different genetic pools of N. alpina trees. We collected leaf samples from trees growing in a common garden field trial and evaluated, by paired comparisons, not only differences among provenances but also variation between and within open pollinated families. Our results demonstrated that P. arda performed a choice between the leaves of the host plants offered. This larva was able to choose specific provenances, open pollinated families and genotypes of N. alpina. In conclusion, the larva is guided by characteristics of individuals and host plant species. These innovative results in insect–plant interaction studies demonstrate that it is important to evaluate discrimination between intra‐specific hosts. Further study is required to fully understand the use of resources by this native insect, as well as the ecological consequences.

    La madera puede presentar una riqueza de organismos que puedan asociarse a la pudrición, específicamente organismos fúngicos del Phylum Basidiomycota. Este trabajo tuvo la finalidad de identificar cuáles son los principales géneros de hongos descomponedores de la madera que afectan a las diversas especies forestales en el Área Metropolitana de Asunción, en los lugares: Paseo Central de la Avenida Mariscal López, el Parque Carlos Antonio López, las Plazas de Las Américas, Infante Rivarola, Plaza Italia y Uruguaya, de la ciudad de Asunción, Paraguay, teniendo en cuenta la diversidad arbórea urbana. Se realizó un inventario forestal procediendo a la identificación de los árboles que se encuentran en el área de estudio. Se realizó la colecta y caracterización histológica de los hongos que afectan a los árboles inventariados para que fueran identificados a nivel de género. Las especies forestales de mayor abundancia registradas fueron las pertenecientes a la familia Fabaceae. Las especies de hongos descomponedores de la madera encontrados son: Ganoderma australe, Ganoderma sp., Fomitiporia sp. y Hydnopolyporus fimbriatus.

    RESUMEN El densificado de la madera mejora sus propiedades higroscópicas; no obstante, si la madera densificada se expone a la humedad, tiende a recuperar su forma original. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar las recuperaciones geométricas de la madera densificada y determinar las higroexpansiones radiales de la madera sólida de ocho especies mexicanas: Cupressus lindleyi, Cedrela odorata, Swietenia macrophylla, Tabebuia donnell-smithii, Fraxinus uhdei, Fagus mexicana, Dalbergia palo-escrito y Guazuma ulmifolia. Para eso, se aplicó un tratamiento de densificado a madera de estas especies y posteriormente fueron humidificadas para observar sus higroexpansiones. Los valores promedio de la recuperación geométrica y de la higroexpansión radial de las maderas C. lindleyi, C. odorata, T. donnell-smithii, F. uhdei, F. mexicana, y G. ulmifolia aumentan a medida que sus densidades se incrementan (αR = 0,0095 ρCH - 2,66; R2 = 0,79). Caso diferente son las maderas S. macrophylla y D. palo-escrito, para las cuales la recuperación geométrica y la higroexpansión radial son menores comparativamente a las otras especies. Se concluye que los valores promedio de la recuperación geométrica y de la higroexpansión radial de las maderas C. lindleyi, C. odorata, T. donnell-smithii, F. uhdei, F. mexicana, y G. ulmifolia aumentan a medida que sus densidades se incrementan. En cambio, para S. macrophylla y D. palo-escrito, la recuperación geométrica y la higroexpansión radial son menores comparativamente a las otras especies. Asimismo, para las ocho especies estudiadas la recuperación geométrica de la madera densificada es mayor que la higroexpansión radial de la madera sin densificar. ABSTRACT The densification of the wood improves its hygroscopic properties; however, if the densified wood is exposed to moisture, it tends to regain its original shape. The research, with a comparative approach, aimed to determine the geometric recoveries of densified wood and to determine the radial hygroexpansions of solid wood of eight Mexican species: Cupressus lindleyi, Cedrela odorata, Swietenia macrophylla, Tabebuia donnell-smithii, Fraxinus uhdei, Fagus mexicana, Dalbergia palo-escrito and Guazuma ulmifolia. For this, a densification treatment was applied to wood of these species and later they were humidified to observe their hygroexpansions. The mean values of geometric recovery and radial hygroexpansion of the woods C. lindleyi, C. odorata, T. donnell-smithii, F. uhdei, F. mexicana, and G. ulmifolia increase as their densities increase (αR = 0,0095 ρCH - 2,66; R2 = 0,79). Different cases are the woods S. macrophylla and D. palo-escrito, for which the geometric recovery and radial hygroexpansion are comparatively lower than the other species. It is concluded that the average values of the geometric recovery and of the radial hygroexpansion of the woods C. lindleyi, C. odorata, T. donnell-smithii, F. uhdei, F. mexicana, and G. ulmifolia increase as their densities increase. On the other hand, for S. macrophylla and D. palo-escrito, geometric recovery and radial hygroexpansion are comparatively lower than the other species. Likewise, for the eight species studied, the geometric recovery of the densified wood is greater than the radial hygroexpansion of the non-densified wood. In the opposite sense, the coefficient of variation of the geometric recovery of densified wood is lower than that of non-densified wood. The values are different for each species, but their magnitudes are positioned close to the statistical trends obtained by other researchers.

    RESUMO Sistemas de preparo do solo podem influenciar o desenvolvimento das culturas. Com o objetivo de avaliar os efeitos de equipamentos de preparo na física do solo e desenvolvimento da soja, foram avaliados cinco sistemas de preparo do solo (arado de aivecas, arado de discos, grade aradora intermediária, escarificador e enxada rotativa) e seu efeito nos agregados de um Latossolo Vermelho Amarelo distrófico. Foi utilizado o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. Os sistemas de preparo do solo influenciaram na altura média das plantas na cultura da soja. O preparo do solo com os arados de discos e aivecas ocasionam maior tamanho de plantas em comparação ao escarificador. Os sistemas de preparo periódico do solo não influenciam no desenvolvimento e a produtividade da cultura da soja. ABSTRACT Soil tillage systems can influence crop development. In order to evaluate the effects of tillage equipment on soil physics and soybean development, five soil tillage systems were evaluated (mouldboard plow, disc plow, intermediate harrow, scarifier and rotary hoe) and their effect on aggregates of a dystrophic Red Yellow Latosol. A completely randomized design with four replications was used. The tillage systems influenced the average height of the plants in the soybean crop. Soil preparation with disc plows and moldboards cause larger plant sizes compared to the scarifier. Periodic soil tillage systems do not influence the development and productivity of the soybean crop.

    Tomato is a major crop in Paraguay, where it provides a source of employment and income for households. Tomato production can be affected by root-knot nematodes, especially Meloidogyne spp. The unequivocal identification of Meloidogyne spp. in Paraguay has not been conducted yet. This study aims to identify Meloidogyne species in eight tomato production districts of this country by biochemical and molecular techniques. Females of Meloidogyne spp. were extracted from tomato roots and characterized using esterase isozyme phenotypes. In addition, DNA was extracted from nematode eggs, and species-specific SCARs (sequence-characterized amplified regions) were used to confirm the diagnosis. Nematodes were detected in 100% of studied samples (prevalence), of which M. incognita (Est: I2, Rm: 1.1;1.2) and M. javanica (Est: J3, Rm: 1.0, 1.20, 1.35) were present in 39.13% and 26.08% of samples, respectively. One population (8.69%) of Meloidogyne sp. presenting an atypical esterase profile (Rm: 1.0 and 1.3) was only detected in Julián Augusto Saldívar District. Mixed populations, mostly M. incognita and M. javanica, were observed in 26.08% of samples. The SCAR primers incK14F/incK14R amplified specific fragments for M. incognita (399 bp) and M. javanica (670 bp), confirming the enzymatic results. Here, we present the first study of root-knot nematode identification at the species level in Paraguay.

    RESUMO Nas últimas décadas, a intensificação do processo de substituição da vegetação natural do Cerrado por áreas associadas às atividades antrópicas tem causado grandes impactos nas paisagens, nesse sentido, compreender a dinâmica dos diferentes sistemas ambientais em decorrência dos impactos causados pela variabilidade climática e pela ação humana, tem sido o esforço de vários pesquisadores. Assim, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o potencial do índice de vegetação por diferença normalizada (NDVI) aplicado a imagens do satélite LANDSAT 8 para discriminar as classes de vegetação no período úmido e seco em uma região do Cerrado mato-grossense. Os valores de NDVI foram obtidos através da razão entre a diferença das refletividades do infravermelho próximo (ρIV) e do vermelho (ρV), e os dados foram processados no programa QGIS versão 3.10. Os resultados dessa pesquisa permitem concluir que o índice de vegetação NDVI utilizado permitiu analisar a dinâmica da vegetação no Vale do São Lourenço - MT. A vegetação da área de estudo comportou-se de acordo com a disponibilidade de água no perfil do solo, com maiores valores do índice de vegetação na estação chuvosa e baixa atividade fotossintética na estação seca. ABSTRACT In recent decades, the intensification of the process of replacing the natural vegetation of the Cerrado by areas associated with human activities has caused great impacts on landscapes, in this sense, understanding the dynamics of different environmental systems because of the impacts caused by climate variability and action human, has been the effort of several researchers. Thus, the present work aimed to evaluate the potential of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) applied to LANDSAT 8 satellite images to discriminate vegetation classes in the wet and dry period in a Cerrado region of Mato Grosso. The NDVI values were obtained through the ratio between the difference between the near infrared (ρIV) and red (ρV) reflectivity’s, and the data were processed in the QGIS program version 3.10. The results of this research allow us to conclude that the NDVI vegetation index used allowed the analysis of the vegetation dynamics in Vale do São Lourenço - MT. The vegetation of the study area behaved according to the availability of water in the soil profile, with higher values of the vegetation index in the rainy season and low photosynthetic activity in the dry season.

    RESUMEN El algodón es un cultivo de gran importancia económica en todo el mundo. En Colombia las siembras han aumentado en los últimos años; no obstante, existen prácticas agronómicas que favorecen la degradación del suelo. El objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar la respuesta morfofisiológica y productiva de cuatro variedades de algodón, bajo el efecto de dos sistemas de labranza en condiciones de Armero-guayabal, Colombia. La investigación se realizó en el Centro Universitario Regional Norte (CURDN) de la Universidad del Tolima. El diseño experimental fue en parcelas subdivididas con bloques al azar con cuatro repeticiones. En la parcela principal se ubicó una labranza mínima (LM) y otra tradicional (LT) (reducida para LM usando arado de cincel y una labranza con volteo del suelo, con uso de rastra y rastrillo para LT). Las variedades manejadas fueron: RR, Nuopal RR, FM 9063 y FM9171Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis). Los resultados se sometieron al Análisis de Varianza (ANOVA) y pruebas de comparación de medias de Tukey y Bonferroni (p≤0,05). Los procesos de rotación de gramíneas y oleaginosas, en manejos agronómicos a largo plazo, presentan cambios significativos en la fertilidad potencial y efectiva edáfica, así como también, en los procesos de conservación, calidad y salud del suelo, en una zona históricamente con problemas edáficos en prácticas deficientes de laboreo. ABSTRACT Cotton is a crop of great economic importance throughout the world. In Colombia, plantings have increased in recent years; however, there are agronomic practices that favor soil degradation. The objective of the work was to evaluate the morphophysiological and productive response of four cotton varieties, under the effect of two tillage systems under conditions of Armero-guayabal, Colombia. The research was conducted at the North Regional University Center (CURDN) of the University of Tolima. The experimental design was sub-divided plots with randomized blocks with four replications. In the main plot, a minimum tillage (LM) and a traditional one (LT) were located (reduced for LM using a chisel plow and tillage with soil turning, with the use of a harrow and a rake for LT). The varieties managed were: RR, Nuopal RR, FM 9063 and FM9171Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis). The results were submitted to the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Tukey and Bonferroni tests for comparison of means (p≤0.05). The processes of rotation of grasses and oilseeds, in long-term agronomic management, present significant changes in the potential and effective edaphic fertility, as well as in the processes of conservation, quality and health of the soil, in an area historically with edaphic problems in poor tillage practices.

    Introducción. Los bosques son los ecosistemas terrestres más diversos y cumplen funciones ambientales y ecológicas, sociales y económicas, ofrecen beneficios directos e indirectos al entorno, uno de los principales es el servicio de regulación. Objetivo. Analizar el servicio ecosistémico de regulación relacionado con el carbono almacenado y el aprovicionamiento de agua y nutrientes del bosque de galería del Arroyo San Lorenzo, Paraguay. Materiales y métodos. El trabajo se realizó en el bosque de galería del arroyo San Lorenzo, Paraguay. Fueron establecidas 4 parcelas de 750 m2 cada una para el relevamiento de los datos. Las variables estudiadas fueron: la composición florística, las propiedades físicas y químicas del suelo, la velocidad de infiltración media del agua y el carbono acumulado en el estrato arbóreo aéreo, radicular y suelo. Resultados. El bosque está constituido por individuos de la familia Meliaceae, Myrthaceae y Moraceae y en menor cantidad de especies se encuentran Cecropiaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Fabaceae, Rhamnaceae y la Sapotaceae. El carbono arbóreo almacenado fue de 38,4 tC.ha-1 y el del suelo (COS) fue de 31,08 tC.ha-1. El carbono total acumulado en los 2 componentes fue de 69,48 tC.ha-1 y el dióxido de carbono equivalente de 254,81 tCO2e.ha-1. El suelo es anegado y poco aireado, con baja conductividad hidráulica a partir de los 50 cm de la superficie y la velocidad de infiltración del agua fue de 66 mm.h-1. Conclusión. El bosque de galería ofrece servicios de captación de carbono, lo que constituye la biomasa arbórea el mayor reservorio de carbono, provisión de agua para la conservación y fuente del aprovisionamiento de nutrientes del suelo de la sub cuenca del arroyo San Lorenzo, Paraguay.

    Abstract Genetic variation among host plants can influence herbivore behaviour and consequently their abundance, performance and environmental impact. In the Andean‐Patagonian forest, the arboreal vegetation is dominated by species of genus Nothofagus. Previous studies of Nothofagus alpina demonstrated differences in genetic diversity among and within its populations. The native caterpillar Perzelia arda feeds on various Nothofagus sp. Our aim was to evaluate host selection behaviour of P. arda larvae towards different genetic pools of N. alpina trees. We collected leaf samples from trees growing in a common garden field trial and evaluated, by paired comparisons, not only differences among provenances but also variation between and within open pollinated families. Our results demonstrated that P. arda performed a choice between the leaves of the host plants offered. This larva was able to choose specific provenances, open pollinated families and genotypes of N. alpina. In conclusion, the larva is guided by characteristics of individuals and host plant species. These innovative results in insect–plant interaction studies demonstrate that it is important to evaluate discrimination between intra‐specific hosts. Further study is required to fully understand the use of resources by this native insect, as well as the ecological consequences.

    La madera puede presentar una riqueza de organismos que puedan asociarse a la pudrición, específicamente organismos fúngicos del Phylum Basidiomycota. Este trabajo tuvo la finalidad de identificar cuáles son los principales géneros de hongos descomponedores de la madera que afectan a las diversas especies forestales en el Área Metropolitana de Asunción, en los lugares: Paseo Central de la Avenida Mariscal López, el Parque Carlos Antonio López, las Plazas de Las Américas, Infante Rivarola, Plaza Italia y Uruguaya, de la ciudad de Asunción, Paraguay, teniendo en cuenta la diversidad arbórea urbana. Se realizó un inventario forestal procediendo a la identificación de los árboles que se encuentran en el área de estudio. Se realizó la colecta y caracterización histológica de los hongos que afectan a los árboles inventariados para que fueran identificados a nivel de género. Las especies forestales de mayor abundancia registradas fueron las pertenecientes a la familia Fabaceae. Las especies de hongos descomponedores de la madera encontrados son: Ganoderma australe, Ganoderma sp., Fomitiporia sp. y Hydnopolyporus fimbriatus.

    RESUMEN El densificado de la madera mejora sus propiedades higroscópicas; no obstante, si la madera densificada se expone a la humedad, tiende a recuperar su forma original. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar las recuperaciones geométricas de la madera densificada y determinar las higroexpansiones radiales de la madera sólida de ocho especies mexicanas: Cupressus lindleyi, Cedrela odorata, Swietenia macrophylla, Tabebuia donnell-smithii, Fraxinus uhdei, Fagus mexicana, Dalbergia palo-escrito y Guazuma ulmifolia. Para eso, se aplicó un tratamiento de densificado a madera de estas especies y posteriormente fueron humidificadas para observar sus higroexpansiones. Los valores promedio de la recuperación geométrica y de la higroexpansión radial de las maderas C. lindleyi, C. odorata, T. donnell-smithii, F. uhdei, F. mexicana, y G. ulmifolia aumentan a medida que sus densidades se incrementan (αR = 0,0095 ρCH - 2,66; R2 = 0,79). Caso diferente son las maderas S. macrophylla y D. palo-escrito, para las cuales la recuperación geométrica y la higroexpansión radial son menores comparativamente a las otras especies. Se concluye que los valores promedio de la recuperación geométrica y de la higroexpansión radial de las maderas C. lindleyi, C. odorata, T. donnell-smithii, F. uhdei, F. mexicana, y G. ulmifolia aumentan a medida que sus densidades se incrementan. En cambio, para S. macrophylla y D. palo-escrito, la recuperación geométrica y la higroexpansión radial son menores comparativamente a las otras especies. Asimismo, para las ocho especies estudiadas la recuperación geométrica de la madera densificada es mayor que la higroexpansión radial de la madera sin densificar. ABSTRACT The densification of the wood improves its hygroscopic properties; however, if the densified wood is exposed to moisture, it tends to regain its original shape. The research, with a comparative approach, aimed to determine the geometric recoveries of densified wood and to determine the radial hygroexpansions of solid wood of eight Mexican species: Cupressus lindleyi, Cedrela odorata, Swietenia macrophylla, Tabebuia donnell-smithii, Fraxinus uhdei, Fagus mexicana, Dalbergia palo-escrito and Guazuma ulmifolia. For this, a densification treatment was applied to wood of these species and later they were humidified to observe their hygroexpansions. The mean values of geometric recovery and radial hygroexpansion of the woods C. lindleyi, C. odorata, T. donnell-smithii, F. uhdei, F. mexicana, and G. ulmifolia increase as their densities increase (αR = 0,0095 ρCH - 2,66; R2 = 0,79). Different cases are the woods S. macrophylla and D. palo-escrito, for which the geometric recovery and radial hygroexpansion are comparatively lower than the other species. It is concluded that the average values of the geometric recovery and of the radial hygroexpansion of the woods C. lindleyi, C. odorata, T. donnell-smithii, F. uhdei, F. mexicana, and G. ulmifolia increase as their densities increase. On the other hand, for S. macrophylla and D. palo-escrito, geometric recovery and radial hygroexpansion are comparatively lower than the other species. Likewise, for the eight species studied, the geometric recovery of the densified wood is greater than the radial hygroexpansion of the non-densified wood. In the opposite sense, the coefficient of variation of the geometric recovery of densified wood is lower than that of non-densified wood. The values are different for each species, but their magnitudes are positioned close to the statistical trends obtained by other researchers.

    RESUMO Sistemas de preparo do solo podem influenciar o desenvolvimento das culturas. Com o objetivo de avaliar os efeitos de equipamentos de preparo na física do solo e desenvolvimento da soja, foram avaliados cinco sistemas de preparo do solo (arado de aivecas, arado de discos, grade aradora intermediária, escarificador e enxada rotativa) e seu efeito nos agregados de um Latossolo Vermelho Amarelo distrófico. Foi utilizado o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. Os sistemas de preparo do solo influenciaram na altura média das plantas na cultura da soja. O preparo do solo com os arados de discos e aivecas ocasionam maior tamanho de plantas em comparação ao escarificador. Os sistemas de preparo periódico do solo não influenciam no desenvolvimento e a produtividade da cultura da soja. ABSTRACT Soil tillage systems can influence crop development. In order to evaluate the effects of tillage equipment on soil physics and soybean development, five soil tillage systems were evaluated (mouldboard plow, disc plow, intermediate harrow, scarifier and rotary hoe) and their effect on aggregates of a dystrophic Red Yellow Latosol. A completely randomized design with four replications was used. The tillage systems influenced the average height of the plants in the soybean crop. Soil preparation with disc plows and moldboards cause larger plant sizes compared to the scarifier. Periodic soil tillage systems do not influence the development and productivity of the soybean crop.
