    International audience; The execution of a distributed algorithm by a fixed size subset of nodes instead of the entire network is a strategy to build a scalable distributed network. For applications like blockchain, the selection protocol of this subset need to meet decentralization criteria by promoting the diversity of nodes in order to avoid the emergence of a third-thrust party. This paper introduces metrics to measure the decentralization of this selection protocol (based on standard deviation and the Gini index). In a second step and somewhat orthogonally, selecting closed nodes could reduce the execution latency of the algorithm. Thus, this paper proposes a new selection protocol that selects in real time closed nodes in the network whose results are verifiable and ensure high decentralization although the network may vary. Such a protocol is interesting to increase the number of validators in a blockchain with a hybrid based Byzantin Fault Tolerant consensus.

    In this article, a novel adaptive controller is designed for Euler-Lagrangian systems under predefined time-varying state constraints. The proposed controller could achieve this objective without a priori knowledge of system parameters and, crucially, of state-dependent uncertainties. The closed-loop stability is verified using the Lyapunov method, while the overall efficacy of the proposed scheme is verified using a simulated robotic arm compared to the state of the art. In this paper, we study the multi-robot task assignment and path-finding problem (MRTAPF), where a number of robots are required to visit all given tasks while avoiding collisions with each other. We propose a novel two-layer algorithm SA-reCBS that cascades the simulated annealing algorithm and conflict-based search to solve this problem. Compared to other approaches in the field of MRTAPF, the advantage of SA-reCBS is that without requiring a pre-bundle of tasks to groups with the same number of groups as the number of robots, it enables a part of robots needed to visit all tasks in collision-free paths. We test the algorithm in various simulation instances and compare it with state-of-the-art algorithms. The result shows that SA-reCBS has a better performance with a higher success rate, less computational time, and better objective values. Full text license: CC BY-NC-ND

    International audience; Wireless Sensor Networks have been proven to have an integral role in the development process of the Internet of Things. The requirements of such networks are increasing rapidly due to the advent of Industry 4.0 and the future internet. The IEEE 802.15.4e-TSCH mode has been designed to satisfy such requirements and ensure guaranteed bandwidth, reliable communication, deterministic latency and energy efficiency. However, scheduling TSCH communications in the time and frequency dimensions has been left open to researchers since it is tightly coupled with the application requirements. A wide range of TSCH schedulers has been proposed in the literature either in a centralized or decentralized fashion. Our work aims at evaluating a selection of decentralized schedulers including distributed, autonomous and Reinforcement-Learning (RL) based ones in a scenario that considers heterogeneous traffic conditions with very high and very low data rates simultaneously. Based on the experiment results, conclusions are drawn for each scheduler to gain insight into their energy efficiency and network performance with respect to applications that must handle highly heterogeneous traffic.

    Subterranean exploration and mapping for search and rescue robotics have become an emerging research direction since the DARPA organized Subterranean Challenge. As part of development efforts within the team CoSTAR (Collaborative SubTerranean Autonomous Robots) in the Sub-T challenge, this work establishes a novel traversable graph-based exploration strategy that utilizes frontiers for local navigation and a fast collision risk-aware graph building for global navigation. The exploration strategy extracts frontiers in an unknown area that contribute to safe navigation while maximizing information gain for the robot. The exploration problem is further bifurcated into local and global exploration for faster decision-making at junctions with the goal of rapidly exploring the area. The local exploration guarantees collision-free straight-line paths to informative frontiers for rapid forward navigation, while global re-positioning utilizes a traversable graph subject to geometrical collision checks within the occupancy map. The pathfinding in a graph is addressed using a heuristic, which combines risk margins and travel costs to assist in short yet safe paths to the global frontier in case of a dead end in local exploration. The presented exploration strategy is developed with the goal of making exploration algorithms platform agnostic in order to be able to use it with aerial, as well as ground robots. The proposed method is also evaluated against different state-of-the-art exploration planners in simulated fixed-time budget-based exploration missions on an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in order to benchmark the capabilities and highlight the novelty. International audience; The instrumentation implemented to monitor a large-scale surface-flow constructed wetland (6 ha) devoted to reclaimed wastewater improvement and urban rainwater treatment is described and discussed. Flowmeters, conductimeters, light sensors, fluorometers and automated cameras have been deployed to provide information on flow patterns, water quality and vegetation. The latter is also monitored by remote sensing with satellite imagery.

    This paper presents results on spatio-temporal estimation of agricultural soil variables using a novel methodology, called kinky inference. The methodology is applied to the temperature and soil moisture estimation in a bell pepper (Capsicum annuum) crop in La Colmena, Paraguay. Data is collected with in-situ devices equipped with sensors and endowed with Communication isture estimation in a bell pepper (Capsicum annuum) crop in La Colmena, Paraguay. Data is collected with in-situ devices equipped with sensors and endowed with communication capabilities to send the information to the cloud. The proposed methodology is able to learn from the received data, and produces reliable estimations for any spatial and temporal locations.

    International audience; In the recent past the Internet of Things (IoT) is moving from interactive objects to smart objects. The number of smart devices or sensors built-in becomes larger. The increase in the number of services exchanged between connected objects has led to the creation of a new concept called Social IoT (SIoT), in which heterogeneous or homogeneous objects can interact and request or exchange services, which makes it possible to include social or human actions in the IoT platform. The use of technologies based on the concept of the Internet of Things in applications and industrial sectors has built a new concept of research called the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The integration of the SIoT concept into the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) plays an important role in improving system performance in Industry 4.0 and gives rise to the Social Internet of Industrial Things (SIoIT). In this context, we have revealed a new socioinspired interaction model between industrial communicating objects inspired by sociological approaches that transform objects into socialized industrial communicating objects. These objects form a community, autonomously and dynamically, by exchanging messages to know each other perfectly, and service requests between objects are realized in an adaptive way according to the principles of social interaction governed by socio-inspired strategies and conditions. The model is evaluated using Netlogo multi-agent system simulation environment.

    Authors: Leduc, Guilain; Kubler, Sylvain; Georges, Jean-Philippe;

    In this article, a novel adaptive controller is designed for Euler-Lagrangian systems under predefined time-varying state constraints. The proposed controller could achieve this objective without a priori knowledge of system parameters and, crucially, of state-dependent uncertainties. The closed-loop stability is verified using the Lyapunov method, while the overall efficacy of the proposed scheme is verified using a simulated robotic arm compared to the state of the art.     Authors: Bai, Yifan; Kanellakis, Christoforos; Nikolakopoulos, George;
