Ship-based lidar systems are a cost-efficient alternative for retrieving highly-reliable offshore wind data. However, the non-stationary nature of ship-mounted lidars hinders the comparison against reference datasets and, therefore, a straightforward characterization of the uncertainty levels associated with these sorts of measurements. For this reason, in this paper we have set up and report an analytical model for estimating the uncertainties of ship-based lidar measurements. The model follows the standard uncertainty propagation method considering the relevant parameters for assessing the wind speed from pulsed Doppler-lidar observations, such as the half cone opening angle, the radial velocity estimation, or the lidar beams’ orientations. Additionally, the derivation of the presented uncertainty model contemplates the technology-specific variables and considerations like the ship linear velocity or tilting, as well as the implementation of a motion correction algorithm.

Abstract The presence of offshore wind farms causes downstream regions of reduced wind velocity, i.e. wind farm (cluster) wakes, which can affect the power of wind farms downstream. Engineering models are now being used to simulate the effects of these wakes, and an important requirement for model validation is a comparison with full-field measurements. Our objective in this paper is to parametrize and validate two engineering wake models with long-range lidar measurements. We use a long-range scanning Doppler lidar to scan the near wake region of a 400 MW offshore wind farm and compare the wind velocities in the wake to the outputs of two engineering models: FarmFlow and flappy. We adapt FarmFlow to solve the flow in highly unstable atmospheres by modifying the boundary conditions, which enables the comparison of velocity profiles behind the farm. The models perform qualitatively well in predicting the wake deficit and shape close to the farm and at lower heights. They predict higher wake losses within the farm when compared to production power data in a strongly unstable atmospheric case. However, the current analysis is limited due to the lack of inflow measurements for model initialization, compounded by limited data availability. We discuss the possibilities and limitations of long-range scanning lidar data for cluster wake model validation and the need for inflow measurements for model initialization. We conclude that with detailed inflow measurements, scanning long-range lidars could serve as a good tool for the validation of wind farm wake models.

Abstract This paper is focused on the archaeological area of Metaponto (Mexomov-nov) and its territory, located in southern Italy. The area played an important role for the agricultural economy and the traffic of goods and people, from the south of Italy towards the central regions, starting from the Neolithic period, and reaching the zenith with the Greek polis of Metaponto and its hinterland. The site is herein analyzed through an integrated use of several Earth observation and remote sensing technologies and ancillary data produced over the years by archaeologists and scholars. The aim was to identify new buried elements of archaeological interest, for the reconstruction of the historical-archaeological landscape. Through the combined use of optical and radar satellite images, high-resolution images obtained by Unmanned Aerial System (visible, multispectral, and thermal infrared), geophysical data, and archival data, it was possible to deepen the knowledge of the area, in particular the “Castrum” area, identifying new buried evidence (structures, roads, and elements of the ancient landscape).

Abstract This paper deals with the integration and fusion of UAV-based imagery, including Vis-NIR multispectral and infrared thermography data, with georadar and geomagnetic prospecting, applied on Grumentum, pre-Roman and Roman city, with an important phase dated to Late Antiquity, of the ancient Lucania, in Basilicata region. The data were processed individually and then integrated with each other in order to recover as much information as possible from the different signals. Due to the qualitative and quantitative approaches to the integration and fusion of the diverse data sets and features, it was possible to detect some urban blocks (insulae) reasonably referable to the Roman age, although obviously not datable, and other features spatially linked to the late antique/early medieval church. Grumentum’s experience shows considerable potential as well as limits in the use of the image fusion-based approach for the enhancement of archaeological features, from which emerges the need to continue experimenting these approaches on a greater number of case studies.

Abstract Maintenance data of wind turbines is an important information source for calculating key performance indicators. Also, it can be used for developing models for early fault detection. Both activities aim for supporting informed decisions in operation and maintenance. However, such data is rarely available in a structured and standardized format which hinders the interoperability of different enterprises. Consequently, maintenance information is often unused or only usable with considerable personnel effort. To digitalize wind farm maintenance, a digitalization workflow is developed and presented in this paper. The workflow consists of the steps optical character recognition, information extraction and text classification. The workflow is applied on real-world wind turbine service reports and invoices. First results for each step show good performance metrics and potential for further real-world application of the proposed method.

Abstract Since the reform and opening up, the process of urbanization in China has been at a high level. In order to accurately obtain the boundary of urban built-up area and the spatiotemporal change characteristics of urban built-up area in recent years, this paper takes Yulin City as an example. With the help of ArcGIS, ERDAS and other platforms, we combine spatial comparison method and index method to extract urban built-up area from DMSP-OLS night light data and Landsat image data. At the same time, the confusion matrix is used to verify the extraction boundary. The research shows that: (1) Using DMSP-OLS night light data and Landsat data to extract the built-up area, the overall accuracy can reach 99%; (2) The urban built-up area of Yulin City expanded at a high speed from 2005 to 2018; (3) The urbanization process in the northeast of Yulin City is obviously higher than that in the south in recent years. This study has a certain reference value for the extraction of urban built-up areas and the development of urbanization in Yulin City by using DMSP-OLS night light data and Landsat data.

Abstract The load demand is increasing rapidly, with limited coal fired plants. In this situation, many researchers are trying to find a way through which, we can make the balance between energy demand and supply for the consumers. The renewable energy sources are gaining popularity as green, clean, and abundant sources of energy. Solar energy is available throughout the year in India and thus provides an alternate source of energy to fulfil the local load demand. The function of solar PV system, depends on the numerous factors i.e. site location, qualities of material to make system components and accessibility of solar radiation etc. In previous research work, many simulation based analysis have been done through PV-syst software package by considering solar photovoltaic system at different sites around the world. In this proposed paper, we are designing and simulating a “60kWp solar power plant” which is basically an on-grid type solar photovoltaic system by PV-syst software version 7.2.2 in rural area of Uttar-Pradesh, India. This analysis has been done for seasonal tilt angles i.e. 10° for summer season and 47° for winter season. Later on, detailed performance study and various losses descriptions are summarized in upcoming segments for the proposed system.

Abstract Frequent visit of doctors during pandemicis not recommended due to COVID-19 scenario. Internet of Things (IoT) based sensors can be used to measure andto do certain tests at home. The blockchain-based strategy promises to aid in the delivery of health-care services while maintaining data privacy. To maintain transparency in the health record, medications, claim history, etc., up-to-dated distributed ledger is required. Doctors have sometimes necessitate patients to undergo lab tests or buy drugs from those organisations merely in order to generate personal profit, even if the medical shop or pathology labs have a bad reputation. Therefore, blockchain technology provides trust among multiple parties so that any party could not be misguided. At times, the patient visits the hospital in critical condition and they may not be in situation to explain about medical history. In such scenario, the information stored in distributed leger may be helpful to the doctors for further treatment. The medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest and breathing issues, the patient requires immediate treatment or medicine at his/her location, the intelligent drone is useful for faster delivery of medicines and needed medical accessories.

Abstract The main contribution of this paper is to study the influence of various natural factors on the conditions for the radio signals propagation on the satellite - Earth links. It is shown that the ionosphere practically does not interfere with satellite radio communications at frequencies above 5 GHz. The mathematical model is proposed for the numerical determination of the attenuation of the radio signal depending on the optical visibility during dust storms along the communication path.
