The texts printed during the Fronde (“mazarinades”) and written in “burlesque” style are a set of documents well known to literary and historical scholars but little studied in a systematical way, mainly because they are difficult to access and turn into a corpus. Our first task here is to delimit this corpus and to define contrastive corpora in order to reveal the specificities of “burlesque writing” in this political context. Then, the problem of acquiring textual data arises: the process of digitizing old printed matter and its evaluation are thus exposed. We choose to exploit these raw data, without post-processing or text correction, which still seems to allow us to obtain results (regarding lexicon, metre or enunciation), with various methods (textometry and observation of character n-grams). We thus show the specificity, in the burlesque writing of the Fronde, of some literary motifs or rhymes. The aim is therefore to present the approach of a corpus in all the steps of the process: from the selection of data, their acquisition, and their transformation into a corpus, to their statistical and algorithmic exploitation, and their interpretation through text mining.

    Summary Humans are constantly influenced by others’ behavior and opinions. Of importance, social influence among humans is shaped by reciprocity: we follow more the advice of someone who has been taking into consideration our opinions. In the current work, we investigate whether reciprocal social influence can emerge while interacting with a social humanoid robot. In a joint task, a human participant and a humanoid robot made perceptual estimates and then could overtly modify them after observing the partner’s judgment. Results show that endowing the robot with the ability to express and modulate its own level of susceptibility to the human’s judgments represented a double-edged sword. On the one hand, participants lost confidence in the robot’s competence when the robot was following their advice; on the other hand, participants were unwilling to disclose their lack of confidence to the susceptible robot, suggesting the emergence of reciprocal mechanisms of social influence supporting human-robot collaboration. Highlights • If a social robot is susceptible to our advice, we lose confidence in it • However, robot’s susceptibility does not deteriorate social influence • These effects do not appear during interaction with a computer • Susceptible robots can promote reciprocity but also hinder social learning Graphical abstract

    Abstract Over the last several decades, forensic science has undergone a digital transformation whereby laboratories have become heavily reliant on information technology. Although computer-based tools have helped automate processes in forensic science, the digital transformation is not without serious technical challenges. Ever-increasing volumes, diversity, and complexity of data has overwhelmed forensic practitioners despite technological advances. In particular, it is increasingly difficult for forensic practitioners to successfully conduct the manual content labelling and cataloguing of crime scene image databases. In this paper, we investigate the application of two different machine learning classifier models on a rich collection of real-world forensic casework images of drug-related offences sourced from the Australian Federal Police illicit drug database, as proof-of-concepts for the automatic classification of crime scene images. The casework database includes 97,287 illicit drug-related casework images that have been labelled into well-defined categories by AFP personnel. The first model is based on a Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier combined with Bag-of-Visual-Words (BoVW) visual dictionaries derived from various local image feature descriptors. The second model is based on a hierarchical Deep Convolution Neural Network (DCNN) method called Tree-CNN. Experimental results based on a subset of 60,520 images from the illicit drug database reveal average True Positive classification rates for the BoVW-based and Tree-CNN models of 66.48% and 89.17%, respectively. Furthermore, a closer assessment of the classification results suggests that the Tree-CNN model has the greatest potential for further development and use in real-world applications.

    Le whistleblowing consiste en une prise de parole : une personne affirme être témoin d’un manquement à l’une des règles en vigueur dans son groupe social en le signalant à l’autorité de régulation compétente, quitte à mécontenter les fautifs présumés. La littérature explique la décision de lancer l’alerte par un calcul mettant en balance l’avantage de faire cesser le manquement avec l’inconvénient de s’exposer en rompant l’éventuel silence organisationnel. Mais elle relève aussi que le but du signalement est rarement atteint et que le lanceur d’alerte fait souvent l’objet de représailles telles que la placardisation, le harcèlement ou encore le licenciement. Le chercheur se demande comment l’avantage prosocial de voir le manquement cesser ou l’éventuel avantage personnel retiré de l’alerte peut l’emporter sur le risque de dommages personnels aussi importants. Dans cet article, nous nous appuyons sur l’analyse du récit de vie d’un lanceur d’alerte. Nous proposons de mobiliser le concept de colère déontique forgé par le comportement organisationnel en matière de justice. Nous analysons la prise de décision d’un type possible de lanceur d’alerte, celui des personnes sensibles aux valeurs et ayant une orientation prosociale : elles se décident à faire appel à l’autorité supérieure sous l’impulsion de la colère déontique qui les anime lorsqu’elles pensent être le témoin d’un manquement. Nous soulignons en conclusion l’intérêt pour les recherches sur le whistleblowing de s’intéresser à l’intelligence émotionnelle, et nous recommandons aux praticiens de comprendre les motifs de la colère qui peut animer, à tort ou à raison, certains de leurs collaborateurs.

    Deformable Linear Objects (DLOs) such as ropes, cables, and surgical sutures have a wide variety of uses in automotive engineering, surgery, and electromechanical industries. Therefore, modeling of DLOs as well as a computationally efficient way to predict the DLO behavior are of great importance, in particular to enable robotic manipulation of DLOs. The main motivation of this work is to enable efficient prediction of the DLO behavior during robotic manipulation. In this paper, the DLO is modeled by a multivariate dynamic spline, while a symplectic integration method is used to solve the model iteratively by interpolating the DLO shape during the manipulation process. Comparisons between the symplectic, Runge-Kutta and Zhai integrators are reported. The presented results show the capabilities of the symplectic integrator to overcome other integration methods in predicting the DLO behavior. Moreover, the results obtained with different sets of model parameters integrated by means of the symplectic method are reported to show how they influence the DLO behavior estimation. International audience; The literature on rural criminology and rural prisons has so far essentially focused on debunking myths about rurality and rural crimes, and on the economic and social impacts of building prisons in rural areas. Typically, such rural prisons are recent. Conversely, due to its long history, France's rural prisons have in some cases been built during the 19 th century within former convents from the Middle Ages or monasteries confiscated from the church during the 1789 Revolution. Missing from this literature, therefore, is, on the one hand, a focus on historic rural prison settings and, on the other hand, attention to individuals and professionals who work there. This paper focuses on a high security prison set in a middleages abbey in the middle of nature. In our interviews with its prison officers (POs) we used appreciative inquiry in order to better uncover the positive dimensions of rurality. We find that rurality is used to reinforce safety and the 'right distance' with prisoners, and to better cut off from the prison environment when they finish their shift. We also find that POs are bound by strong (rural) family ties that in turn contribute to their professional identity and values, and to their feelings of safety.

    Authors: KOCH, Florian;

    Le dénigrement de l’autre par la langue – englobant toutes les formes de la violence verbale quotidienne (telles que de simples insultes) et permettant de tirer des conclusions sur les attitudes à l’égard de groupes – est un phénomène transnational croissant. L’objectif de cet article est donc d’analyser ce phénomène social dans le cadre du foot amateur en Allemagne et en France. Après avoir présenté le développement du modèle plurifactoriel par induction « le dénigrement de l’autre par la langue dans le foot amateur » (DALFA) dans un premier article, ce deuxième article se concentrera sur l’analyse des facteurs influençant l’évaluation de la violence verbale en général et du dénigrement de l’autre par la langue, en particulier par l’arbitre du foot amateur, par le biais de moyens statistiques descriptifs et inférentiels. En général, l’analyse met en évidence le fait que la violence verbale est utilisée fréquemment dans le football amateur, que ce soit en Allemagne ou en France. De plus, l’analyse montre l’importance majeure de la motivation individuelle de l’arbitre. En outre, communiquer tout d’abord avec les personnes impliquées est considéré comme une stratégie efficace pour juguler les conflits. Qui plus est, l’analyse montre que des personnes tierces – les entraîneurs et les parents – les rivalités traditionnelles et l’adhésion à une ligue influencent massivement l’usage de la violence verbale. De surcroît, une majorité d’arbitres de football amateur a énoncé les caractéristiques du profil type du délinquant impliqué. Ainsi, les facteurs évoqués sont très variés : un comportement irrespectueux, l’âge, le sexe, l’origine et l’éducation. Finalement, l’analyse montre que les dénigrements verbaux sont plus sévèrement sanctionnés que les simples insultes. De plus, en violation des règles, les éléments du dénigrement verbal hiérarchisés représentent un quart des cas recensés. Il est recommandé que, outre une formation continue des arbitres amateurs et la mise en œuvre cohérente des concepts de prévention de la violence élaborés par les fédérations de football, les arbitres amateurs soient sensibilisés au phénomène du dénigrement verbal et à son « idéologie de l'inéquivalence » ainsi qu’à ses expressions linguistiques dans leur ensemble.

    The increasing pervasiveness of the Internet of Things is resulting in a steady increase of cyberattacks in all of its facets. One of the most predominant attack vectors is related to its identity management, as it grants the ability to impersonate and circumvent current trust mechanisms. Given that identity is paramount to every security mechanism, such as authentication and access control, any vulnerable identity management mechanism undermines any attempt to build secure systems. While digital certificates are one of the most prevalent ways to establish identity and perform authentication, their provision at scale remains open. This provisioning process is usually an arduous task that encompasses device configuration, including identity and key provisioning. Human configuration errors are often the source of many security and privacy issues, so this task should be semi-autonomous to minimize erroneous configurations during this process. In this paper, we propose an identity management (IdM) and authentication method called YubiAuthIoT. The overall provisioning has an average runtime of 1137.8 ms ±65.11+δ. We integrate this method with the FIWARE platform, as a way to provision and authenticate IoT devices.

    International audience; International policies promote renewable forms of energy to mitigate climate change. In Europe, the production of electricity using wood biomass represents one of the most popular energy alternatives. In 2012, France initiated a large-scale strategy to develop wood biomass energy. The biggest wood biomass power-plant project has been developed in the French Mediterranean area and its huge size raises several issues for the short- and long-term sustainability of local forests and associated economic sectors. The French Mediterranean forests provide four types of economic goods (private, club, common, and public goods) and multiple ecosystem services, which makes them complex to manage under an energy transition policy. In this paper, we applied three qualitative methods, namely interviews, participative workshops, and observant participation, and three conceptual models, namely (i) Ostrom’s (2010) self-organization key conditions, (ii) the types of economic goods classified according to their excludability and rivalry properties, and (iii) the ecosystem service categorization system of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (2005). With our methods, we show that the renewable strategy chosen in France replicates the current centralized production model based on fossil and nuclear fuels. Thus, we demonstrate that European, national, and local authorities fail to consider the multiple ecosystem services that forest management strategies should include to face the energy transition, climate change, and the other ecological challenges of the 21st century.

    Les « mazarinades » burlesques de la Fronde sont des écrits bien connus des littéraires et des historiens mais peu étudiés systématiquement, en raison notamment de leur difficulté d’accès et de constitution en corpus. Nous cherchons d’abord à délimiter ce corpus et à définir des corpus contrastifs propres à révéler les spécificités de l’écriture burlesque dans ce contexte politique. Ensuite, nous abordons le problème de l’acquisition des données textuelles et nous exposons le processus d’océrisation d’imprimés anciens et son évaluation. Puis, nous choisissons d’exploiter ces données brutes, sans traitement, ce qui semble bien permettre d’obtenir des résultats (dans des domaines tels que le lexique, la métrique ou l’énonciation), en employant différentes méthodes (fouille textométrique et observation des n-grammes de caractères). Nous montrons ainsi la spécificité, dans l’écriture burlesque de la Fronde, de certains motifs littéraires et de certaines rimes. Il s’agit donc ici de présenter l’approche d’un corpus dans toutes les phases du processus : depuis la sélection des données, leur acquisition, leur constitution en corpus, jusqu’à leur exploitation statistique et algorithmique et l’interprétation de cette fouille.

    International audience; Die Transkription dieser Diskussion mit Marie-Claire Hoock-Demarle, Pascale Gruson, Roland Krebs und Alexis Tautou beleuchtet verschiedene Facetten des Werdegangs, der Persönlichkeit, des Werks und des historischen Kontextes, in dem Geneviève Bianquis, eine der Hauptfiguren der französischen Germanistik in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts, aktiv war. Angesichts des ergiebigen Archivmaterials über sie geht es auch darum zu begreifen, inwiefern diese Germanistin für uns heute einen relevanten Forschungsgegenstand darstellen kann.; The transcription of this round table discussion with Marie-Claire Hoock-Demarle, Pascale Gruson, Roland Krebs and Alexis Tautou sheds light on the different facets of the career, personality, work and the historical context within which Geneviève Bianquis, one of the major figures of French German Studies in the first half of the 20th century, was active. In the light of the extensive archives available, the discussion also revolves around the ways in which this female Germanist constitutes a relevant object of study for us today.; La transcription de cette table ronde réunissant Marie-Claire Hoock-Demarle, Pascale Gruson, Roland Krebs et Alexis Tautou éclaire différentes facettes de la trajectoire, de la personnalité, de l’œuvre et du contexte historique dans lequel évolua Geneviève Bianquis, l’une des figures majeures de la germanistique française de la première moitié du XXe siècle. L’enjeu est aussi de saisir à la lumière des archives nombreuses dont nous disposons à son sujet la manière dont cette femme germaniste peut constituer un objet de recherche pertinent pour nous aujourd’hui.

    Authors: KOCH, Florian;

    Le dénigrement de l’autre par la langue – englobant toutes les formes de la violence verbale quotidienne (telles que de simples insultes) et permettant de tirer des conclusions sur les attitudes à l’égard de groupes – est un phénomène transnational croissant. L’objectif de cet article est donc d’analyser ce phénomène social dans le cadre du foot amateur en Allemagne et en France. Après avoir présenté le développement du modèle plurifactoriel par induction « le dénigrement de l’autre par la langue dans le foot amateur » (DALFA) dans un premier article, ce deuxième article se concentrera sur l’analyse des facteurs influençant l’évaluation de la violence verbale en général et du dénigrement de l’autre par la langue, en particulier par l’arbitre du foot amateur, par le biais de moyens statistiques descriptifs et inférentiels. En général, l’analyse met en évidence le fait que la violence verbale est utilisée fréquemment dans le football amateur, que ce soit en Allemagne ou en France. De plus, l’analyse montre l’importance majeure de la motivation individuelle de l’arbitre. En outre, communiquer tout d’abord avec les personnes impliquées est considéré comme une stratégie efficace pour juguler les conflits. Qui plus est, l’analyse montre que des personnes tierces – les entraîneurs et les parents – les rivalités traditionnelles et l’adhésion à une ligue influencent massivement l’usage de la violence verbale. De surcroît, une majorité d’arbitres de football amateur a énoncé les caractéristiques du profil type du délinquant impliqué. Ainsi, les facteurs évoqués sont très variés : un comportement irrespectueux, l’âge, le sexe, l’origine et l’éducation. Finalement, l’analyse montre que les dénigrements verbaux sont plus sévèrement sanctionnés que les simples insultes. De plus, en violation des règles, les éléments du dénigrement verbal hiérarchisés représentent un quart des cas recensés. Il est recommandé que, outre une formation continue des arbitres amateurs et la mise en œuvre cohérente des concepts de prévention de la violence élaborés par les fédérations de football, les arbitres amateurs soient sensibilisés au phénomène du dénigrement verbal et à son « idéologie de l'inéquivalence » ainsi qu’à ses expressions linguistiques dans leur ensemble.

    The increasing pervasiveness of the Internet of Things is resulting in a steady increase of cyberattacks in all of its facets. One of the most predominant attack vectors is related to its identity management, as it grants the ability to impersonate and circumvent current trust mechanisms. Given that identity is paramount to every security mechanism, such as authentication and access control, any vulnerable identity management mechanism undermines any attempt to build secure systems. While digital certificates are one of the most prevalent ways to establish identity and perform authentication, their provision at scale remains open. This provisioning process is usually an arduous task that encompasses device configuration, including identity and key provisioning. Human configuration errors are often the source of many security and privacy issues, so this task should be semi-autonomous to minimize erroneous configurations during this process. In this paper, we propose an identity management (IdM) and authentication method called YubiAuthIoT. The overall provisioning has an average runtime of 1137.8 ms ±65.11+δ. We integrate this method with the FIWARE platform, as a way to provision and authenticate IoT devices.

    International audience; International policies promote renewable forms of energy to mitigate climate change. In Europe, the production of electricity using wood biomass represents one of the most popular energy alternatives. In 2012, France initiated a large-scale strategy to develop wood biomass energy. The biggest wood biomass power-plant project has been developed in the French Mediterranean area and its huge size raises several issues for the short- and long-term sustainability of local forests and associated economic sectors. The French Mediterranean forests provide four types of economic goods (private, club, common, and public goods) and multiple ecosystem services, which makes them complex to manage under an energy transition policy. In this paper, we applied three qualitative methods, namely interviews, participative workshops, and observant participation, and three conceptual models, namely (i) Ostrom’s (2010) self-organization key conditions, (ii) the types of economic goods classified according to their excludability and rivalry properties, and (iii) the ecosystem service categorization system of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (2005). With our methods, we show that the renewable strategy chosen in France replicates the current centralized production model based on fossil and nuclear fuels. Thus, we demonstrate that European, national, and local authorities fail to consider the multiple ecosystem services that forest management strategies should include to face the energy transition, climate change, and the other ecological challenges of the 21st century.
