    Shrimp farming is one of the critical drivers of Bangladesh economy. In several coastal areas in Bangladesh shrimp farming is one of the key economic activities. In Chittagong, locals conduct large-scale shrimp farming. While the economic activity provides a critical economic outlook for the region, some challenges exist, which include environmental impact of the farming process, the deficiency of land to expand shrimp farming, and government initiatives aimed at securing the environment. However, opportunities also exist for Chittagong’s large-scale shrimp farmers to achieve sustainability in their farming process. Collectively, large-scale shrimp farming in Chittagong possesses several opportunities for growth, and despite the challenges that the industry might face, the suggestions the study makes can enhance the realization of a sustainable business venture in the sector.

    This thesis reflects the topics of ‘robotics’ and ‘automatisation’, searching the true develop-ment of the area today used in finance and giving some insight to the next steps within the robotic industry. It explains the basic terminology used in connections with automatisation and explains how automatisation is important for companies in today’s business. This research is based on the recent literature and studies discovered about the topic, bringing examples from the real life, and discussing what might be good choices for Company X, yet the findings might be applicable to other similar small or middle-sized companies, as well. The goal for the thesis is to bring guidance for development ideas and proposals for the financial processes of Company X, which this work focuses on. The work also discusses about possible risks in implementing robotics and automation, how it effects to employees and organization itself, and what elements a successful implementation of RPA (Robotic Process Automation) and automatisation requires. It explains the main financial processes which take most time in financial roles in Company X and presents suggestions for improvements. As result, some automation in different processes is proposed more specifically and while presenting required RPA project elements, the work is also leaving topics such as role specifications, to be determined by Company X itself. This report concludes the organizational management for digitalisation being an essential factor for successful robotisation and automatisation, yet not all processes necessarily require e.g., advanced technology, but rather improvement in the processes themselves. Identifying the real need for automatisation vs. simple process improvement and data management, are the keys for decision making for the development strategies to be chosen.

    In this work the development process of the Northern Ostrobothnia’s entrepreneurship education model was documented as a diary-based thesis. The theoretical background of this thesis and the development process of the entrepreneurship education model takes tools and includes concepts from service design and entrepreneurship education. The aim of this diary-based thesis was to learn how a developing process of an entrepreneurship education model could be planned and carried out and if service design tools could be used in the process. This thesis also documented the development process. The diary-entries covered the whole development process of the Northern Ostrobothnia’s entrepreneurship education model, which was about eight months from October 2021 to May 2022. The diary-entries were made based on different meaningful events for the development work, the work process, and the author’s learning. The diary entries were made based on events, meetings and important work related to the development process. The diary-entries were reported in this thesis under monthly headlines. The Northern Ostrobothnia’s entrepreneurship education model will be published at www.minunpolkuni.fi during academic year 2022–2023. The Northern Ostrobothnia’s entrepreneurship education model is being developed in a European Social Fund (ESF) project called “Sustainable development, digitalisation, and internationalization as a part of the entrepreneurship education – VÄKEVÄ”. The author worked as a project manager for the project “Sustainable development, digitalisation, and internationalization as a part of the entrepreneurship education – VÄKEVÄ” at the University of Oulu’s Kerttu Saalasti Institute.

    Digital applications foster innovation and spur new business models emergence in the power and energy sector, enabling further development toward smart grids. The ongoing integration of disruptive digital tools and smart grid solutions brings new complexities to the design of new smart grid applications. To cope with standardisation and interoperability concerns, the smart grid architecture model (SGAM) is the state of the art framework to design new applications in the ecosystem of smart grids. However, conceptual challenges related to the actor's definition arise when mapping new digital applications to SGAM, among others such as artificial intelligence and digital twins. Thus, this paper explores the latter challenges and presents three potential solutions to facilitate the deployment of digital applications in SGAM. These solutions are: integration of a new interoperability layer to cover digital applications and humans in the current SGAM design, decoupling of the component layer in three layers regarding the typology of actors, and integration of a new interoperability layer to better represent the digital actors in cyber-physical applications.

    Artificial Intelligence and robotic process automation technologies are the current trends in various business processes, such as marketing, customer service, logistics, finance, and accounting. These technologies provide a range of benefits to their users, thus adopting AI and RPA might help to overcome the challenges the pandemic has brought to the companies, especially SMEs as they present the majority of companies. This thesis aims to discover the competencies needed to adopt AI and RPA, and the current state of their adoption in accounting and finance processes among Finnish SMEs. The thesis was written in cooperation with a commissioning organisation that plans to enhance the digital transformation of SMEs by creating a knowledge hub where specialists and SMEs would collaborate. The results of the thesis would be used later on to provide training to SMEs that want to take the next step in digitalisation. This thesis consists of a theoretical part and an empirical part. More precisely, the theory part contains information regarding the history of AI and RPA, the main technological drivers, the benefits and challenges of their adoption, and the effects AI and RPA would have on the workplaces in the future. Also, the theory part contains information about accounting and finance processes. The second part of this thesis focuses on mixed research, thus it contains information about population, data collection methods, and analysis methods. During this research, the author of the thesis conducted a survey with 28 questions and studied whether Finnish SMEs use AI and RPA, what are the fields of the business where they adopt it, and what are the main benefits and challenges of using these technologies. Therefore, the author has found that Finnish SMEs are in the early stage of adoption that means not so many businesses use AI and RPA in their processes and many SMEs do not agree the use of these technologies would benefit their organisations. On the other hand, many SMEs were keen to participate in training to enhance their knowledge and skills.

    This study seeks to explore the impacts of local community on land degradation in Sundabarns based on a case in Shyamnagar in Bangladesh. Shymanagar is a mangrove forest area, hence, the research aimed to explain the human activities that causes the decline in the mangrove forest cover. To complete the study, an online and printed questionnaire-aided surveys were sent to a sampled population of 24 respondents. The study confirmed that human activities contribute significantly to the destruction of the mangrove forests; hence they are significant agents of land degradation in Shyamnagar. Eighty percent of the respondents earn their living from fishing, lumbering, and farming; all of which exposes the Sundarbans to reasonable threat of degradation and extinction of the mangrove forest. The results also confirmed there is significant increase in human encroachment in the forest areas, which contributed to forest depletion. Furthermore, most residents of the Shyamnagar are not aware of the importance of the mangrove forest cover and the need to preserve them. The research concluded that national and local authorities should partner with the members of the society to implement conservation measures for the forest cover. These findings and conclusion could be influenced by possible biasness from the respondents with economic conflicting interests in the land.

    Ce texte est un hommage au travail de la sociologue féministe Christine Delphy. Il s'inscrit dans un numéro qui lui est entièrement dédié, où les contributrices, chercheuses et militantes féministes, décrivent l'impact de son œuvre sur leurs propres recherches ou sur leur parcours personnel. Je raconte dans ce texte très personnel comment la lecture de ses écrits sur le travail domestique dans les familles paysannes m'a donné des clefs d'analyse d'un vécu familial douloureux, étant fille d'agriculteur.trice. J'y décris comment la mécanisation et le développement de l'agrochimie pendant les trente glorieuses (qu'on devrait plutôt appeler désastreuses), se sont accompagnés d'un surendettement et d'un épuisement au travail des familles d'agriculteurs, où les épouses, sans statut professionnel, et les enfants ont payé un lourd tribu. Le travail gratuit qu'est le travail domestique y est accru au point de devenir destructeur pour les personnes. Je décris ainsi le suicide de mère et la maladie de Parkinson de mon père. La lecture des écrits de Christine Delphy m'a permis d'accéder à une compréhension politique de désastre familial, et de surmonter la souffrance, la colère, la tristesse. C'est ce chemin de résilience que je décris dans ce texte dense et intime où le privé est politique.

    This thesis was conducted to study how data obtained from local weather stations can be used as a marketing tool for Syngenta, a company that produces plant protection products. I have used market research and consultation from the company to gain an understanding of the current market situation in Finland and the business development potential in it. The main focus of this theses is on the improvement of customer experience, in order to keep and gain customers. Sustainability of the innovation and stakeholder relations are studied to identify the improvement potential of company´s general image. In the implementation portion of this thesis, I have created the outlines of an application, as well as a social media marketing plan. At the time of writing my thesis the development of the application and its marketing are in early stages. Improving the use of local weather stations and making the data obtained from them easily accessible for farmers, answers a direct need in the market, for more specific and reliable instructions for the use of plant protection products. And so in this thesis I have gathered the varying ways it can be taken advantage of in marketing.

    The objective of this study was to investigate the utilization of artificial intelligence in major Finnish enterprises. Technological development concerning, for example deep-learning neural networks and quantum computers, enable a significantly more comprehensive utilization of artificial intelligence applications. AI is already utilized on a wide scale of operational assignments and it is gaining more and more autonomy. Management, by contrast, is seen as an assignment solely for humans due to its complex nature and humane requirements. Eventually, the digital transformation will concern societies and individuals as it will concern enterprises, and management will not make an exception. Previous research conducted on the subject of AI and management was found to be scarce. With AI technology enterprises are able to gather, process and analyze significantly larger amounts of data. The significance of data and various types of data-analysis are growing up with the clock speed of businesses. Therefore, AI is seen as a critical technology with respect to enterprise competitive advantage. However, AI technology should not be seen as a completely risk-free Holy Grail of enterprise performance: The logic or “reasoning” of a machine does not necessarily convince humans. Also, it is not unnecessary to pay attention to ethics concerning data protection. To harness full potential of AI, there is a requirement of assessing the risks with respect to its utilization. Currently, AI applications are utilized in many of the major Finnish enterprises. Multiple applications were indentified and found to correspond with the findings in the theory section of this study. As an element of digital transformation, AI is an emergent phenomenon that will influence businesses and management fundamentally. Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli tutkia tekoälyn hyödyntämistä yritysten strategisen johtamisen välineenä Suomessa. Teknologinen kehitys, esimerkiksi syväoppivien neuraaliverkkojen ja kvanttitietokoneiden saralla, mahdollistavat aikaisempaa huomattavasti laajemman tekoälyn hyödyntämisen. Tekoälyä hyödynnetään jo nyt laajassa operaatioiden tehtäväkentässä ja se saa yhä enemmän autonomiaa. Johtaminen sen sijaan on nähty ihmisten tehtävänä sen kompleksisesta luonteesta ja inhimillisistä vaatimuksista johtuen. Lopulta, kuten ihmisiä ja yhteiskuntiakin, tulee digitaalinen transformaatio koskemaan myös yrityksiä, eikä johtaminen tule olemaan poikkeus. Tekoälyn ja johtamisen tutkimusta on tehty aiemmin niukasti. Tekoälyteknologian avulla yritykset kykenevät keräämään, prosessoimaan ja analysoimaan aikaisempaa huomattavasti suurempia datamääriä. Liiketoiminnan johtamisen kannalta olennaisen datan ja siitä saatavien analyysien merkitys kasvaa liiketoiminnan kellotaajuuden kasvaessa. Tästä syystä tekoäly nähdään yritysten kilpailuedun kannalta jopa kriittisenä teknologiana. Tekoälyteknologiaa ei pidä kuitenkaan nähdä ainoastaan riskittömänä liiketoiminnan suorituskyvyn Graalin maljana: Koneen päättelylogiikka ei välttämättä herätä ihmisissä luottamusta, eikä myöskään tietosuojaan liittyvää etiikkaa ole aiheetonta pohtia. Tekoälyn täyden potentiaalin valjastaminen vaatii myös siihen liittyvien riskien tunnistamisen. Tänä päivänä tekoälyä hyödynnetään useissa Suomen suurimmissa yrityksissä. Hyödyntämiskohteita tunnistettiin useita ja ne havaittiin suurelta osalta yhtenäisiksi tutkimuksen teoreettiseen tietoon peilattuna. Tekoäly osana digitaalista transformaatiota on emergentti ilmiö ja sen vaikutukset liiketoiminnalle, sekä sen johtamiselle, tulevat olemaan fundamentaalisia.

    Shrimp farming is one of the critical drivers of Bangladesh economy. In several coastal areas in Bangladesh shrimp farming is one of the key economic activities. In Chittagong, locals conduct large-scale shrimp farming. While the economic activity provides a critical economic outlook for the region, some challenges exist, which include environmental impact of the farming process, the deficiency of land to expand shrimp farming, and government initiatives aimed at securing the environment. However, opportunities also exist for Chittagong’s large-scale shrimp farmers to achieve sustainability in their farming process. Collectively, large-scale shrimp farming in Chittagong possesses several opportunities for growth, and despite the challenges that the industry might face, the suggestions the study makes can enhance the realization of a sustainable business venture in the sector.

    This thesis reflects the topics of ‘robotics’ and ‘automatisation’, searching the true develop-ment of the area today used in finance and giving some insight to the next steps within the robotic industry. It explains the basic terminology used in connections with automatisation and explains how automatisation is important for companies in today’s business. This research is based on the recent literature and studies discovered about the topic, bringing examples from the real life, and discussing what might be good choices for Company X, yet the findings might be applicable to other similar small or middle-sized companies, as well. The goal for the thesis is to bring guidance for development ideas and proposals for the financial processes of Company X, which this work focuses on. The work also discusses about possible risks in implementing robotics and automation, how it effects to employees and organization itself, and what elements a successful implementation of RPA (Robotic Process Automation) and automatisation requires. It explains the main financial processes which take most time in financial roles in Company X and presents suggestions for improvements. As result, some automation in different processes is proposed more specifically and while presenting required RPA project elements, the work is also leaving topics such as role specifications, to be determined by Company X itself. This report concludes the organizational management for digitalisation being an essential factor for successful robotisation and automatisation, yet not all processes necessarily require e.g., advanced technology, but rather improvement in the processes themselves. Identifying the real need for automatisation vs. simple process improvement and data management, are the keys for decision making for the development strategies to be chosen.

    In this work the development process of the Northern Ostrobothnia’s entrepreneurship education model was documented as a diary-based thesis. The theoretical background of this thesis and the development process of the entrepreneurship education model takes tools and includes concepts from service design and entrepreneurship education. The aim of this diary-based thesis was to learn how a developing process of an entrepreneurship education model could be planned and carried out and if service design tools could be used in the process. This thesis also documented the development process. The diary-entries covered the whole development process of the Northern Ostrobothnia’s entrepreneurship education model, which was about eight months from October 2021 to May 2022. The diary-entries were made based on different meaningful events for the development work, the work process, and the author’s learning. The diary entries were made based on events, meetings and important work related to the development process. The diary-entries were reported in this thesis under monthly headlines. The Northern Ostrobothnia’s entrepreneurship education model will be published at www.minunpolkuni.fi during academic year 2022–2023. The Northern Ostrobothnia’s entrepreneurship education model is being developed in a European Social Fund (ESF) project called “Sustainable development, digitalisation, and internationalization as a part of the entrepreneurship education – VÄKEVÄ”. The author worked as a project manager for the project “Sustainable development, digitalisation, and internationalization as a part of the entrepreneurship education – VÄKEVÄ” at the University of Oulu’s Kerttu Saalasti Institute.

    Digital applications foster innovation and spur new business models emergence in the power and energy sector, enabling further development toward smart grids. The ongoing integration of disruptive digital tools and smart grid solutions brings new complexities to the design of new smart grid applications. To cope with standardisation and interoperability concerns, the smart grid architecture model (SGAM) is the state of the art framework to design new applications in the ecosystem of smart grids. However, conceptual challenges related to the actor's definition arise when mapping new digital applications to SGAM, among others such as artificial intelligence and digital twins. Thus, this paper explores the latter challenges and presents three potential solutions to facilitate the deployment of digital applications in SGAM. These solutions are: integration of a new interoperability layer to cover digital applications and humans in the current SGAM design, decoupling of the component layer in three layers regarding the typology of actors, and integration of a new interoperability layer to better represent the digital actors in cyber-physical applications.

    Artificial Intelligence and robotic process automation technologies are the current trends in various business processes, such as marketing, customer service, logistics, finance, and accounting. These technologies provide a range of benefits to their users, thus adopting AI and RPA might help to overcome the challenges the pandemic has brought to the companies, especially SMEs as they present the majority of companies. This thesis aims to discover the competencies needed to adopt AI and RPA, and the current state of their adoption in accounting and finance processes among Finnish SMEs. The thesis was written in cooperation with a commissioning organisation that plans to enhance the digital transformation of SMEs by creating a knowledge hub where specialists and SMEs would collaborate. The results of the thesis would be used later on to provide training to SMEs that want to take the next step in digitalisation. This thesis consists of a theoretical part and an empirical part. More precisely, the theory part contains information regarding the history of AI and RPA, the main technological drivers, the benefits and challenges of their adoption, and the effects AI and RPA would have on the workplaces in the future. Also, the theory part contains information about accounting and finance processes. The second part of this thesis focuses on mixed research, thus it contains information about population, data collection methods, and analysis methods. During this research, the author of the thesis conducted a survey with 28 questions and studied whether Finnish SMEs use AI and RPA, what are the fields of the business where they adopt it, and what are the main benefits and challenges of using these technologies. Therefore, the author has found that Finnish SMEs are in the early stage of adoption that means not so many businesses use AI and RPA in their processes and many SMEs do not agree the use of these technologies would benefit their organisations. On the other hand, many SMEs were keen to participate in training to enhance their knowledge and skills.

    This study seeks to explore the impacts of local community on land degradation in Sundabarns based on a case in Shyamnagar in Bangladesh. Shymanagar is a mangrove forest area, hence, the research aimed to explain the human activities that causes the decline in the mangrove forest cover. To complete the study, an online and printed questionnaire-aided surveys were sent to a sampled population of 24 respondents. The study confirmed that human activities contribute significantly to the destruction of the mangrove forests; hence they are significant agents of land degradation in Shyamnagar. Eighty percent of the respondents earn their living from fishing, lumbering, and farming; all of which exposes the Sundarbans to reasonable threat of degradation and extinction of the mangrove forest. The results also confirmed there is significant increase in human encroachment in the forest areas, which contributed to forest depletion. Furthermore, most residents of the Shyamnagar are not aware of the importance of the mangrove forest cover and the need to preserve them. The research concluded that national and local authorities should partner with the members of the society to implement conservation measures for the forest cover. These findings and conclusion could be influenced by possible biasness from the respondents with economic conflicting interests in the land.

    Ce texte est un hommage au travail de la sociologue féministe Christine Delphy. Il s'inscrit dans un numéro qui lui est entièrement dédié, où les contributrices, chercheuses et militantes féministes, décrivent l'impact de son œuvre sur leurs propres recherches ou sur leur parcours personnel. Je raconte dans ce texte très personnel comment la lecture de ses écrits sur le travail domestique dans les familles paysannes m'a donné des clefs d'analyse d'un vécu familial douloureux, étant fille d'agriculteur.trice. J'y décris comment la mécanisation et le développement de l'agrochimie pendant les trente glorieuses (qu'on devrait plutôt appeler désastreuses), se sont accompagnés d'un surendettement et d'un épuisement au travail des familles d'agriculteurs, où les épouses, sans statut professionnel, et les enfants ont payé un lourd tribu. Le travail gratuit qu'est le travail domestique y est accru au point de devenir destructeur pour les personnes. Je décris ainsi le suicide de mère et la maladie de Parkinson de mon père. La lecture des écrits de Christine Delphy m'a permis d'accéder à une compréhension politique de désastre familial, et de surmonter la souffrance, la colère, la tristesse. C'est ce chemin de résilience que je décris dans ce texte dense et intime où le privé est politique.

    This thesis was conducted to study how data obtained from local weather stations can be used as a marketing tool for Syngenta, a company that produces plant protection products. I have used market research and consultation from the company to gain an understanding of the current market situation in Finland and the business development potential in it. The main focus of this theses is on the improvement of customer experience, in order to keep and gain customers. Sustainability of the innovation and stakeholder relations are studied to identify the improvement potential of company´s general image. In the implementation portion of this thesis, I have created the outlines of an application, as well as a social media marketing plan. At the time of writing my thesis the development of the application and its marketing are in early stages. Improving the use of local weather stations and making the data obtained from them easily accessible for farmers, answers a direct need in the market, for more specific and reliable instructions for the use of plant protection products. And so in this thesis I have gathered the varying ways it can be taken advantage of in marketing.

    The objective of this study was to investigate the utilization of artificial intelligence in major Finnish enterprises. Technological development concerning, for example deep-learning neural networks and quantum computers, enable a significantly more comprehensive utilization of artificial intelligence applications. AI is already utilized on a wide scale of operational assignments and it is gaining more and more autonomy. Management, by contrast, is seen as an assignment solely for humans due to its complex nature and humane requirements. Eventually, the digital transformation will concern societies and individuals as it will concern enterprises, and management will not make an exception. Previous research conducted on the subject of AI and management was found to be scarce. With AI technology enterprises are able to gather, process and analyze significantly larger amounts of data. The significance of data and various types of data-analysis are growing up with the clock speed of businesses. Therefore, AI is seen as a critical technology with respect to enterprise competitive advantage. However, AI technology should not be seen as a completely risk-free Holy Grail of enterprise performance: The logic or “reasoning” of a machine does not necessarily convince humans. Also, it is not unnecessary to pay attention to ethics concerning data protection. To harness full potential of AI, there is a requirement of assessing the risks with respect to its utilization. Currently, AI applications are utilized in many of the major Finnish enterprises. Multiple applications were indentified and found to correspond with the findings in the theory section of this study. As an element of digital transformation, AI is an emergent phenomenon that will influence businesses and management fundamentally. Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli tutkia tekoälyn hyödyntämistä yritysten strategisen johtamisen välineenä Suomessa. Teknologinen kehitys, esimerkiksi syväoppivien neuraaliverkkojen ja kvanttitietokoneiden saralla, mahdollistavat aikaisempaa huomattavasti laajemman tekoälyn hyödyntämisen. Tekoälyä hyödynnetään jo nyt laajassa operaatioiden tehtäväkentässä ja se saa yhä enemmän autonomiaa. Johtaminen sen sijaan on nähty ihmisten tehtävänä sen kompleksisesta luonteesta ja inhimillisistä vaatimuksista johtuen. Lopulta, kuten ihmisiä ja yhteiskuntiakin, tulee digitaalinen transformaatio koskemaan myös yrityksiä, eikä johtaminen tule olemaan poikkeus. Tekoälyn ja johtamisen tutkimusta on tehty aiemmin niukasti. Tekoälyteknologian avulla yritykset kykenevät keräämään, prosessoimaan ja analysoimaan aikaisempaa huomattavasti suurempia datamääriä. Liiketoiminnan johtamisen kannalta olennaisen datan ja siitä saatavien analyysien merkitys kasvaa liiketoiminnan kellotaajuuden kasvaessa. Tästä syystä tekoäly nähdään yritysten kilpailuedun kannalta jopa kriittisenä teknologiana. Tekoälyteknologiaa ei pidä kuitenkaan nähdä ainoastaan riskittömänä liiketoiminnan suorituskyvyn Graalin maljana: Koneen päättelylogiikka ei välttämättä herätä ihmisissä luottamusta, eikä myöskään tietosuojaan liittyvää etiikkaa ole aiheetonta pohtia. Tekoälyn täyden potentiaalin valjastaminen vaatii myös siihen liittyvien riskien tunnistamisen. Tänä päivänä tekoälyä hyödynnetään useissa Suomen suurimmissa yrityksissä. Hyödyntämiskohteita tunnistettiin useita ja ne havaittiin suurelta osalta yhtenäisiksi tutkimuksen teoreettiseen tietoon peilattuna. Tekoäly osana digitaalista transformaatiota on emergentti ilmiö ja sen vaikutukset liiketoiminnalle, sekä sen johtamiselle, tulevat olemaan fundamentaalisia.
