The Peraia of Samothrace Project (HFRI-FM17-750) is a multi-disciplinary archaeological fieldwork project to investigate the diachronic settlement patterns from Prehistory to the Modern Era of the coastal and inland landscape opposite the island of Samothrace in the northern Aegean Sea. It uses integrated and non-invasive methods such as remote sensing, geophysical prospection, and intensive pedestrian field walking to explore the regional topography and the diversity of human occupation. One important aspect of the project addresses the question of Samothracian settlements mentioned in the written sources. This paper presents the results of the 2020–2021 fieldwork campaign, including the methodological framework of the survey, an overview of ancient literary sources and previous archaeological work in the region, and a preliminary report of the archaeological survey as well as a general discussion of the combined outcome of the results.

In order to evaluate the influence of organic and intensive agriculture on the quality of underground and surface water, in this work, river water and groundwater, which were taken from organic and intensive agriculture fields that bordered the studied rivers, were studied, and a comparative analysis of these water samples was performed. This research provides new data that the impact of organic farming on the state of underground water (4–5 m depth) is minimal. Therefore, this data can be useful for promoting the development of ecological agriculture and for the preparation of new environmental legislation.

Publisher: Vilnius : Lietuvos mokslų akademijaCountry: LithuaniaCurrent economic development, including agriculture, is based on the increasing use of natural resources that causes climate change, deterioration of ecosystems or puts other types of pressure on the environment. Therefore, recognizing that economic well-being must be supported by reducing the negative impact on the natural environment, the idea of environmentally sustainable growth in agriculture and issue of its evaluation methodology have received attention. The most commonly accepted way to assess environmentally sustainable growth in agriculture is based on measures of total factor productivity (TFP) or multifactor productivity (MFP) growth. However, the conventional MFP is not suitable for the assessment of environmentally sustainable growth in agriculture because the indicator does not include environmental variables such as environmental pollution and natural capital. Both scarcities can be overcome by an environmentally adjusted multifactor productivity (EAMFP) indicator. Research object is environmentally sustainable growth in agriculture. Research aim is to theoretically establish the relationship between economic growth and the natural environment, develop a methodology for the assessment of environmentally sustainable growth in agriculture, and conduct an empirical assessment of environmentally sustainable growth in agriculture in the European Union. A methodology for the assessment of environmentally sustainable growth in agriculture has been prepared, integrating environmental variables, using objective statistical data from Economic Accounts for Agriculture and Air Emission Accounts from Eurostat, Faostat, and the FADN database. The obtained results of the empirical study showed that the developed assessment methodology and the cluster analysis of the EU countries allow us to determine the influence of production factors, environmental pollution and technological progress on the real growth of total added value in agriculture. Dabartinis ekonomikos, taip pat ir žemės ūkio, vystymasis grindžiamas vis didėjančiu gamtinių išteklių naudojimu, kuris sukelia klimato kaitos pokyčius, ekosistemų būklės blogėjimą ar kitokį neigiamą poveikį gamtinei aplinkai. Todėl pripažįstant, kad ekonominė gerovė turi būti palaikoma mažinant neigiamą poveikį gamtinei aplinkai, dėmesio sulaukė aplinkos atžvilgiu tvaraus augimo žemės ūkyje idėja ir jos vertinimo metodologijos klausimai. Aplinkos atžvilgiu tvarus augimas žemės ūkyje vertinamas bendro gamybos veiksnių našumo (BGVN) arba daugiaveiksnio našumo (DGVN) rodiklių pagalba. Tačiau įprastas DGVN žemės ūkyje apskaičiavimas, į vertinimą įtraukiant vieną pageidaujamą gamybos rezultatą ir du gamybos veiksnius, ignoruoja gamtinį kapitalą kaip gamybos veiksnį ir neapima nepageidaujamo gamybos rezultato, tokio kaip šiltnamio efektą sukeliančios dujos. Abu šiuos trūkumus leidžia pašalinti su aplinka susietas daugiaveiksnio našumo (ADGVN) rodiklis. Tyrimo objektas – aplinkos atžvilgiu tvarus augimas žemės ūkyje. Tyrimo tikslas – teoriškai pagrindus ekonomikos augimo ir gamtinės aplinkos ryšį, parengti aplinkos atžvilgiu tvaraus augimo žemės ūkyje vertinimo metodiką ir atlikti aplinkos atžvilgiu tvaraus augimo Europos Sąjungos žemės ūkyje empirinį vertinimą. Parengta aplinkos atžvilgiu tvaraus augimo žemės ūkyje vertinimo metodika, integruojanti aplinkos kintamuosius, tam panaudojant objektyvius žemės ūkio ekonominių sąskaitų, aplinkos ekonominių sąskaitų, Faostat ir ŪADT žemės ūkyje statistikos duomenis. Gauti empirinio tyrimo rezultatai parodė, kad sukurta vertinimo metodika ir atlikta ES šalių klasterinė analizė leidžia nustatyti kokią įtaką gamybos veiksniai, aplinkos tarša ir technologinė pažanga daro realiam bendrosios pridėtinės vertės augimui žemės ūkyje.

The main objective of the Belspo-funded LIMAMAL project was to support archaeologists in creating 3D terrain visualizations based on Lidar data and Pléiades stereoscopic imagery, and a combination or “fusion” thereof. A case study was developed to demonstrate the application of Pléiades imagery and light detection and ranging (lidar) technologies for prospection and visualization of the Mesoamerican archaeological landscape. Based on this case study, guidelines in English and Spanish have been developed to explain the technical processing. The project involved a stakeholder: the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), a Mexican federal government institution responsible for research, conservation, protection and spreading of knowledge on Mexican cultural heritage. The case study and guidelines were presented to the stakeholder and other interested parties during several meetings held during a short mission to Yucatan, Mexico in the spring of 2022.

Peer reviewed: True Increased and enhanced utilisation of remote sensing and robotics in the Arctic can further enhance cultural safety and well-being and reduce the risks posed to archaeologists, heritage workers and others in the field. In this preliminary scoping survey, the authors review the current use of these technologies and consider a range of related issues, from cultural safety to nefarious use by criminals. Initial discussions with experts have informed areas of concern; and the potential for further integration. In the future, the University of Tromsø’s new Tromsø Arctic Simulation Integration Centre (TASIC) will be utilised to evaluate a range of scenarios to inform risk analysis and contribute towards safety enhancement in the Arctic Heritage at Risk Project (Arctic-HARP). The following is an overview of the significant state-of-the-art technologies and related matters.
