    European business environment has many specific market conditions due to the differences in terms of legislation, culture & language, business practices, etc. Many European companies are in the transition of combining digital transformation (apps, software and platform development) and their traditional industrial bases. Another trend in European business development is consolidation, i.e. merger and acquisitions. Small but very innovative companies can be easily taken over by larger companies. When such a small but innovative company becomes a business unit in of a large organisation after acquisition or take-over, maintaining innovation-based growth can be problematic. By understanding this dynamic and the unique characteristics of European small and medium enterprises (SMEs), students will learn and practise knowledge from key subject areas in identifying market opportunities, developing market entry strategies and a feasible marketing plan for each targeted area.

    The market of (temporary) access control is one example of an industry that is impacted by digitization and internationalisation. New possibilities come up and ask for reaction from suppliers, but require the re-specification of needs from customers as well. It is also an illustration how new regulation, in this case especially related to privacy and migration, influences industrial dynamics. Related to new technological possibilities and legislative conditions, the industry is in a process of consolidation. This case focuses on a small but innovative company, IQ-Pass, developing its growth strategy in Europe within its constellation of being a subsidiary of the regional champion Boels Rental. Students will gain an understanding of the challenges of the company, in stretching its technological leverage and customer intimacy on the one hand and expanding its sales to new (geographical) markets on the other hand.

    Initially, the author in the dissertation below refers to the field of Topography, which mainly processes the Earth. Topography deals with agriculture, archeology, plot separation, etc. Then, Remote Sensing is a part of Topography and helps with land uses. From the satellites that exist in space, satellite images are taken in very short intervals, in a large area, without human contact and currently present. Also, satellite data take various data on land use, such as the type of vegetation, the color of the vegetation, the burned area and what was burned in case of fire. Note that a satellite image contains errors and must first be processed by radiometric or geometric correction. In addition, from the spectral signatures that a corrected satellite image has for example, of a vegetation area, it can be understood from its levels and values, the areas are not healthy, dead or healthy vegetation.     The topic I chose for my dissertation is the Sentinel-2 satellite image classification for the disaster that occurred on 4/8/20 in the port of Beirut after an explosion. In the dissertation we used the SNAP program, and two Sentinel-2 satellite images. Through the thesis we could elaborate the steps on how to properly perform a supervised classification using the appropriate software. The classification is done to identify the categories of all terrestrial objects where they can consist of lakes, rivers, dams, sea, mountains, land, vegetation and urban areas. The initial classification process was done in the image before the disaster in the port of Beirut, in which the categories of objects were made as follows: soil, sea, vegetation and urban area. The Random Forest Classifier, Maximum Likelihood Classifier and Minimum Distance Classifier were then classified. Based on these results, the best classification was made based on the Random Forest Classifier. We then placed the classes in the second Sentinel 2 image after the disaster occurred and created the disaster class. Finally, we repeated the classification only in the category Random Forest Classifier for the second image which was the best classification before and the classification based on the disaster that has taken place in the port of Beirut came out. Το θέμα που επιλέχτηκε στην πτυχιακή εργασία είναι η ταξινόμηση δορυφορικής εικόνας Sentinel-2 για την καταστροφή που έγινε στις 4/8/20 στο λιμάνι της Βηρυτού μετά από έκρηξη. Στην πτυχιακή εργασία χρησιμοποιήσαμε το πρόγραμμα SNAP και δύο δορυφορικές εικόνες Sentinel-2. Αρχικά γίνεται σύγκριση με βάση της εικόνες που πάρθηκαν πριν και μετά την έκρηξη. Παράλληλα μπορούμε να εφαρμόσουμε τα βήματα επιβλεπόμενης ταξινόμησης χρησιμοποιώντας κατάλληλα λογισμικά. Η αρχική διαδικασία της ταξινόμησης έγινε στην εικόνα πριν την καταστροφή στο λιμάνι της Βηρυτού, στην οποία επιλέγηκαν ως κατηγορίες των αντικείμενων οι εξής: χώμα, θάλασσα, βλάστηση και αστική περιοχή. Στην συνέχεια έγινε ταξινόμηση με βάση τις τεχνικές Random Forest Classifier, Maximum Likelihood Classifier και Minimum Distance Classifier. Βάση των αποτελεσμάτων αυτών, η καλύτερη ταξινόμηση έγινε βάση της Random Forest Classifier. Στην συνέχεια τοποθετήσαμε τις ίδιες κλάσεις στην δεύτερη εικόνα Sentinel 2 μετά που έγινε η καταστροφή και δημιουργήσαμε μια επιπρόσθετη κλάση. Τέλος επαναλάβαμε την ταξινόμηση μόνο στην κατηγόρια τις Random Forest Classifier για την δεύτερη εικόνα η οποία ήταν η καλύτερη ταξινόμηση από πριν και βγήκε η ταξινόμηση βάση της καταστροφής που έχει γίνει στο λιμάνι της Βηρυτού.     Air quality monitoring in Ireland is under the jurisdiction of the Environmental Protection Agency in compliance with the Gothenburg Protocol, EU/national legislation, and the National Clean Air Strategy. Particulate Matter (PM) has been acknowledged as a key atmospheric pollutant, with serious public health impacts and no safe threshold of exposure in place to-date. Ammonia (NH3) emissions are linked to the secondary production of PM through atmospheric reactions occurring with acidic atmospheric components such as sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and hydrochloric acid. These reactions result in the formation of ammonium sulfate, ammonium nitrate and ammonium chloride, among others. More than 95% of NH3 emissions occurring in Ireland arise from agriculture, with minor contributions from transport and natural sources. This study aims to advance knowledge and understanding of the role of arable agricultural practices and management in NH3 enrichment and aid in mapping of the sources of PM production. The nature and contribution of NH3 in the atmosphere to secondary PM in defined arable settings will be examined to provide greater insight into system dynamics facilitating emission control and mitigation measures to be implemented. This will be achieved through a review of existing literature and database assessment combined with the application of a localised field monitoring network in arable agricultural settings. As Ireland currently has no active atmospheric NH3 monitoring in place, reported emission levels can prove to be imprecise. And lead to over- and under-estimation of NH3 gas emissions to the atmosphere from sources such as agriculture. By establishing localized monitoring stations at emission sources, the precision of the estimated NH3 concentrations in the atmosphere can be improved. This can also lead to improved understanding of PM dynamics and formation. This will be achieved by using a combination of active and passive sampling instruments for in-field atmospheric sample collection, which will then be analysed in the laboratory using ion chromatography. Additionally, to gain a fuller understanding of the dynamics of an agricultural system, background monitoring of soil properties and water nutrient enrichment will also be carried out. The output of this project will build on existing theories of NH3, and PM dynamics established by previous research, and combine these with field data, including agricultural practices, NH3 source production and PM generation, soil and water enrichment and quality background monitoring to synthesise a new mechanistic paradigm. This new understanding will be operationalised through the development of a conceptual model of NH3 dynamics and PM generation, and agri-ecological interactions known as Conceptual Ammonia-aeroSol bIOspheric Simulation (CASIOS). The model builds on a Drivers, Pressures, State, Impacts, Responses framework, with an additional attribute introduced under the term ‘Concept’ which includes environmental conditions previously not considered under this paradigm.

    The market of (temporary) access control is one example of an industry that is impacted by digitization and internationalisation. New possibilities come up and ask for reaction from suppliers, but require the re-specification of needs from customers as well. It is also an illustration how new regulation, in this case especially related to privacy and migration, influences industrial dynamics. Related to new technological possibilities and legislative conditions, the industry is in a process of consolidation. This case focuses on a small but innovative company, IQ-Pass, developing its growth strategy in Europe within its constellation of being a subsidiary of the regional champion Boels Rental. Students will gain an understanding of the challenges of the company, in stretching its technological leverage and customer intimacy on the one hand and expanding its sales to new (geographical) markets on the other hand.

    Initially, the author in the dissertation below refers to the field of Topography, which mainly processes the Earth. Topography deals with agriculture, archeology, plot separation, etc. Then, Remote Sensing is a part of Topography and helps with land uses. From the satellites that exist in space, satellite images are taken in very short intervals, in a large area, without human contact and currently present. Also, satellite data take various data on land use, such as the type of vegetation, the color of the vegetation, the burned area and what was burned in case of fire. Note that a satellite image contains errors and must first be processed by radiometric or geometric correction. In addition, from the spectral signatures that a corrected satellite image has for example, of a vegetation area, it can be understood from its levels and values, the areas are not healthy, dead or healthy vegetation.     The topic I chose for my dissertation is the Sentinel-2 satellite image classification for the disaster that occurred on 4/8/20 in the port of Beirut after an explosion. In the dissertation we used the SNAP program, and two Sentinel-2 satellite images. Through the thesis we could elaborate the steps on how to properly perform a supervised classification using the appropriate software. The classification is done to identify the categories of all terrestrial objects where they can consist of lakes, rivers, dams, sea, mountains, land, vegetation and urban areas. The initial classification process was done in the image before the disaster in the port of Beirut, in which the categories of objects were made as follows: soil, sea, vegetation and urban area. The Random Forest Classifier, Maximum Likelihood Classifier and Minimum Distance Classifier were then classified. Based on these results, the best classification was made based on the Random Forest Classifier. We then placed the classes in the second Sentinel 2 image after the disaster occurred and created the disaster class. Finally, we repeated the classification only in the category Random Forest Classifier for the second image which was the best classification before and the classification based on the disaster that has taken place in the port of Beirut came out. Το θέμα που επιλέχτηκε στην πτυχιακή εργασία είναι η ταξινόμηση δορυφορικής εικόνας Sentinel-2 για την καταστροφή που έγινε στις 4/8/20 στο λιμάνι της Βηρυτού μετά από έκρηξη. Στην πτυχιακή εργασία χρησιμοποιήσαμε το πρόγραμμα SNAP και δύο δορυφορικές εικόνες Sentinel-2. Αρχικά γίνεται σύγκριση με βάση της εικόνες που πάρθηκαν πριν και μετά την έκρηξη. Παράλληλα μπορούμε να εφαρμόσουμε τα βήματα επιβλεπόμενης ταξινόμησης χρησιμοποιώντας κατάλληλα λογισμικά. Η αρχική διαδικασία της ταξινόμησης έγινε στην εικόνα πριν την καταστροφή στο λιμάνι της Βηρυτού, στην οποία επιλέγηκαν ως κατηγορίες των αντικείμενων οι εξής: χώμα, θάλασσα, βλάστηση και αστική περιοχή. Στην συνέχεια έγινε ταξινόμηση με βάση τις τεχνικές Random Forest Classifier, Maximum Likelihood Classifier και Minimum Distance Classifier. Βάση των αποτελεσμάτων αυτών, η καλύτερη ταξινόμηση έγινε βάση της Random Forest Classifier. Στην συνέχεια τοποθετήσαμε τις ίδιες κλάσεις στην δεύτερη εικόνα Sentinel 2 μετά που έγινε η καταστροφή και δημιουργήσαμε μια επιπρόσθετη κλάση. Τέλος επαναλάβαμε την ταξινόμηση μόνο στην κατηγόρια τις Random Forest Classifier για την δεύτερη εικόνα η οποία ήταν η καλύτερη ταξινόμηση από πριν και βγήκε η ταξινόμηση βάση της καταστροφής που έχει γίνει στο λιμάνι της Βηρυτού.     Air quality monitoring in Ireland is under the jurisdiction of the Environmental Protection Agency in compliance with the Gothenburg Protocol, EU/national legislation, and the National Clean Air Strategy. Particulate Matter (PM) has been acknowledged as a key atmospheric pollutant, with serious public health impacts and no safe threshold of exposure in place to-date. Ammonia (NH3) emissions are linked to the secondary production of PM through atmospheric reactions occurring with acidic atmospheric components such as sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and hydrochloric acid. These reactions result in the formation of ammonium sulfate, ammonium nitrate and ammonium chloride, among others. More than 95% of NH3 emissions occurring in Ireland arise from agriculture, with minor contributions from transport and natural sources. This study aims to advance knowledge and understanding of the role of arable agricultural practices and management in NH3 enrichment and aid in mapping of the sources of PM production. The nature and contribution of NH3 in the atmosphere to secondary PM in defined arable settings will be examined to provide greater insight into system dynamics facilitating emission control and mitigation measures to be implemented. This will be achieved through a review of existing literature and database assessment combined with the application of a localised field monitoring network in arable agricultural settings. As Ireland currently has no active atmospheric NH3 monitoring in place, reported emission levels can prove to be imprecise. And lead to over- and under-estimation of NH3 gas emissions to the atmosphere from sources such as agriculture. By establishing localized monitoring stations at emission sources, the precision of the estimated NH3 concentrations in the atmosphere can be improved. This can also lead to improved understanding of PM dynamics and formation. This will be achieved by using a combination of active and passive sampling instruments for in-field atmospheric sample collection, which will then be analysed in the laboratory using ion chromatography. Additionally, to gain a fuller understanding of the dynamics of an agricultural system, background monitoring of soil properties and water nutrient enrichment will also be carried out. The output of this project will build on existing theories of NH3, and PM dynamics established by previous research, and combine these with field data, including agricultural practices, NH3 source production and PM generation, soil and water enrichment and quality background monitoring to synthesise a new mechanistic paradigm. This new understanding will be operationalised through the development of a conceptual model of NH3 dynamics and PM generation, and agri-ecological interactions known as Conceptual Ammonia-aeroSol bIOspheric Simulation (CASIOS). The model builds on a Drivers, Pressures, State, Impacts, Responses framework, with an additional attribute introduced under the term ‘Concept’ which includes environmental conditions previously not considered under this paradigm.
