The paper explains the effect of digitalization, in the digital age, on the transformation of corporate operations from the former traditional forms of business into new modern forms guided by digital technology. Paper shows the development of digital technology through history to the present day and the adaptation of corporate culture to the new age are presented. Digital technologies are becoming a very important infrastructural factor of the digital economy by which goods are quickly and efficiently analyzed, created and passed on. The impact of digitalisations on education and labor force reform with regard to the emergence of new jobs and the disappearance of certain obsolete jobs is presented. The digital economy is based on the collection and storage of data, which often violates privacy rights, and explains the ways of responsible behavior online, on the Internet. The examples of large digital corporations shows what they are doing to stay competitive and in step with change. A survey was conducted on 65 respondents on the digital age and the use of digital services. U radu je objašnjeno djelovanje digitalizacije to jest digitalnog doba na transformaciju poslovanja korporacija iz nekadašnjih tradicionalnih oblika poslovanja u nove moderne oblike vođene digitalnom tehnologijom. Prikazano je kretanje razvoja digitalne tehnologije kroz povijest do danas te prilagodba korporativne kulture novom dobu. Digitalne tehnologije postaju vrlo važan infrastrukturni čimbenik digitalne ekonomije kojima se brzo i učinkovito analiziraju, stvaraju i prosljeđuju dobra. Prikazano je djelovanje digitalizacija na obrazovanje te reformu radne snage s obzirom na pojavu novih radnih mjesta te nestajanje pojedinih zastarjelih radnih mjesta. Digitalna ekonomija temelji se na skupljanju i pohrani podataka što se često kosi s pravima na privatnost te su objašnjeni načini odgovornog ponašanja na mreži to jest na internetu. Na primjerima velikih digitalnih korporacija prikazano je što sve čine kako bi ostale konkurentne i u korak s promjenama. Provedeno je istraživanje na 65 ispitanika o digitalnom dobu i korištenju digitalnih usluga.

Det pratas mycket om den nya smarta tekniken med sensorer, robotar och drönare som tillsammans med artificiell intelligens, maskininlärning och omfattande datakraft ska revolutionera avfallssektorn. Samtidigt är det många som upplever att det kan vara svårt se vilka faktiska nyttor som kommer att uppstå när digital teknik ska implementeras i den egna verksamheten. För många känns utmaningarna lika oändliga som de löften som tekniken kommer med. Därför har IVL tillsammans med Avfall Sverige drivit ett projekt där vi fokuserat på nyttan med den teknik som kan vara av speciellt intresse för avfallsanläggningar. I skriften ”System som optimerar och skapar nya värden” har vi lagt fokus vid digitala systemlösningar. Med generell information om vad man behöver tänka på i kombination med konkreta exempel och erfarenhetsdelning belyser vi möjligheter och utmaningar från två perspektiv: Hur man genererar nytta inom den egna verksamheten och hur man kan använda systemlösningar för att samverka med andra. I skriften ”Smart teknik banar väg för effektiva lösningar” förmedlar vi vilken nytta som kan uppstå för avfallsanläggningen när sensorer och annan smart teknik blir en del av verksamheten och vad man bör tänka på när man börjar tillämpa smart teknik, såsom drönare och robotar. För avfallssektorn bjuder digitaliseringen på en mängd möjligheter, men många har också blivit varse att det kan vara svårt att hitta den kraft och skapa den nytta som digitalisering kan generera. Med konkreta exempel, från såväl den egna sektorn som från andra branscher och sektorer, vill vi ge avfallssektorn vägledning till utveckling med stöd av digitalisering. Detta förmedlas i två skrifter som specifikt riktar sig till landets avfallsanläggningar, men som säkert kan vara av intresse för avfallssektorn i sin helhet.

This report identifies the main characteristics of home-based teleworkers and companies with teleworking in place, and looks at some of the most common prevention measures being implemented to counteract the associated physical and psychosocial risks to worker health and well-being. The report is based on data from EU-OSHA’s ESENER survey, the European Union Labour Force Survey and the Eurofound’s European Working Conditions Survey 2015. The latest, pre-pandemic survey data are analysed to provide facts and figures valuable to those responsible for planning and implementing teleworking agreements post pandemic, with a particular focus on preventing musculoskeletal disorders.

The objective of the ethical operational model created in the SotePeda24/7 project is to work as a tool in the identification, ethical evaluation and decision-making of ethical issues as well as in ethical activities in the digitising operational environment of the social and healthcare sector and education. The model can be used both in ethics teaching and in different operational environments at work to reflect on ethical issues, make decisions and reach solutions.

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused service disruptions in numerous sectors of human activity. Museums and cultural institutions have unfortunately been among them. However, the emergency has put insiders in a position to find solutions to make the works usable in digital mode, applying research and technologies that have been the subject of research over the last twenty years. In this contribution, a case study will be considered related to an archaeological site museum of a Roman villa, which suffered from usability problems long before the pandemic. Some possible interventions will be listed to improve readability and communication with potential visitors.

Published in November 2021 by the European University Institute On 24 and 25 June 2021, the EUI held, both in Florence and online, the Summer Conference Effective remedies vis-vis digital platforms: competition policy and sector regulation at a crossroad. The event gathered different stakeholders, including officials from well-represented competition authorities, academics, industry representatives and practitioners, to discuss the growing interaction of competition policy and sector regulation with the remedies imposed on digital platforms. We are experiencing many antitrust investigations against online platforms on both sides of the Atlantic and proposed regulatory reforms addressing digital markets issues, such as the EU Digital Markets Act (DMA). This environment provided fertile grounds for a vivid discussion. Different panels focused on the effectiveness of competition law remedies for digital markets, such as data portability, the establishment of data silos, the divestiture of platforms assets, interim relief, and algorithms auditing. As an experiment to spur a trusted, free flow of arguments and open conversation between experts, the last-mentioned digital remedies issue, Auditing of Algorithms (AoA), was the object of an invitation-only session under Chatham House Rule. This paper shares the main points that emerged during such a closed-door panel on auditing algorithms, maintaining the anonymity of information sources.

This is the third article in the series of six, detailing the advantages of digitalisation for the built environment and why companies must engage in the process to secure sustainable growth and success. This final piece in Part 1 of the series, “The Tools”, builds on the previous digitalisation and BIM articles*. Digital Transformations will detail the pathway that companies must define, detail and develop for their own particular needs. If the industry is to develop and leverage its digital skills for energy-efficient construction and increase its competitiveness, it will be driven via the skills of the workforce. Upskilling must be demand-driven, demand both from the industry perspective and from the workers in the industry. It is this “meeting of demands” that will lead to success in meeting the needs of industry, society and the environment.

[EN] This work presents the design of tasks in two courses at the Faculty of Business Administration and Management between 2020–2021. Because on-campus learning was limited, the tasks were designed to enable students to use digital tools. The learning outcomes were defined to ensure that students acquired both STEAM and soft competences. The STEAM competences in these subjects focused on developing curiosity (S: science), using technology (T), solving problems (E: engineering) and communicating in a visual manner (A: arts). In the first course, the task, which was implemented across two lessons, required the students to review a service. The students used digital tools to trace the customer journey, including pain points (negative opinions about the experience) users indicated, solutions to address those pain points and the main challenges involved in the solutions’ implementation. The use of digital tools added the technology competence to the competences students had already acquired in previous years (science, engineering, arts). In the second course, students worked on their bachelor’s degree theses, which they will be required to present both orally and in writing to three professors of the faculty. The task designed in this subject involved a screencast video produced by each student. Each student’s video was required to follow the format of the actual presentation of his or her thesis. This task added the technology and arts competences to the competences they had acquired in previous courses (science and engineering). This paper presents the results obtained from the two courses. These include the evaluation of learning outcomes in relation to previous years, the advantages and disadvantages of the tools selected in each subject and improvements to be incorporated in future years. This paper was written as part of two innovation and educational improvement projects (PIME) with the support of the Universitat Politècnica de València (Institute of Educational Sciences, ICE).
