After nationalization , Emiratis migrated from rural areas to cities settling into a more stationary lifestyle including sending their children to school. Recognizing the need for a highly educated and technologically sophisticated UAE national workforce, the government approved laws, and policies to guarantee equal educational opportunities to UAE national males and females and to encourage UAE nationals to develop themselves to their fullest potential. Education is mandatory up through the primary grades and free of charge to Emiratis up to the completion of high school. After graduation, UAE nationals who qualify academically are guaranteed access free of charge to up to 6 years of postsecondary education at any of the federally funded institutions. Scholarships are available to qualifying UAE nationals who wish to study abroad in specialty areas that are not available in the UAE. Few other countries encourage and subsidize postsecondary education to the extent of the UAE.

    Student absenteeism is an acknowledged and pervasive problem in many schools in the sultanate of Oman. It is a major problem in rural areas as a result of lacking the ability to enforce the minimum age requirement in these areas. Practically, the high level of absence has a major impact on the performance of students in the long run. This challenges the researchers of this paper to investigate the root social and demographic factors for such a problem. Abdullah Abin Al-Zubir School is chosen as a case study. To identify such factors, a data mining Decision Support System (DSS) is developed to classify the most probable students to get absent from their schools from the least probable ones. Results show the most contributing factors in the absenteeism problem of Abdullah Abin Al-Zubir Schools students are age: the number of family members, the family income and mothers employment status.

The study focused on quantifying the extent and sources of the deterioration of the vegetation cover of the study area at the Sudanese Blue Nile watershed in relation to agriculture extension policy, inefficient management and Lack of governmental policy.

The Research was based on forest and vegetation inventory and soil analysis to determine the current situation using ground survey, forest inventory and remote sensing data as well as secondary information from other sources to cover historical records from 1990 to 2015.

The results showed a significant change in natural ecosystems during the study period due to the change in the land use patterns. The Closed forests, open forests, and rural settlement areas were found to decrease by -90%, -43% and -32% respectively during the period (1990-2000). This negative trend was reflected in a positive trend showed by expansion in agriculture (+267%), horticulture (+73%), bare land (144%), and urban areas (12%). During the period (2010-2015), which was the civil war period, the area of closed forests, open forests and urban areas were increased, in comparison to that of 1990-2000) by 201,10, and 247% respectively, while that of agriculture, Rural areas, and bare lands is negative (-51, -54 and -68% respectively).

The major factor for the change is mainly attributed to the migration of rural people towards urban areas due to civil war and economic crises. In addition, it is expected that there are other factors such as the absence of clear plans and coordination between concerned government authorities, at local and national levels, which may need further investigations and studies to clear the whole picture.

    We examine the effect of women’s ownership of, and access to resources (economic autonomy) on their relative decision-making power in households using an Instrumental Variable/Fixed effects approach. Neighboring women’s exposure to different forms of media is utilized as a source of exogenous variation to identify this effect. While we find strong causal impacts of greater economic autonomy on their relative position in decision-making, there is evidence of a diminishing marginal effect of autonomy. Exploring the components of relative decision-making power and autonomy further, we suggest that sole ownership of financial assets rather than physical assets are the main drivers of economic autonomy for women, resulting in changes in their bargaining positions. These effects are highlighted for older women; unemployed women; women more educated than their husbands; and in rural areas. Our results are robust to a number of econometric concerns.

    Government of Mongolia has developed “National Development Strategy of Mongolia” and “Regional Development Policy of Mongolia” and it was focused on promoting fast development of tourism as one of the leading sectors of the economy. Furthermore, increase in responsibility of state and local authorities for business sector is paying more attention to further development of regional tour-recreation. Given that the tour-recreation recourses in rural area are ought to be determined specifically as well as the determined recourses are required to be utilized in efficient way, it is envisaged that gradually increases are important for involving the Camp of cooperating Herding Households (CCHH) to be participated in local tour-recreation activities. Accordingly, demands are raised to identify the factors and influences on developing the Tour-recreation activities in CCHH.Our objective of this research work is to conduct the full assessment and regionalize the tour-recreational capacity of Uvs province.Journal of agricultural sciences №15 (02): 130-133, 2015

    This article focuses on designing and conducting action research in diverse settings. Action research is a collaborative approach to problem solving. It involves consultative problem identification, reflects context, encourages reflexive examination, and ultimately encourages and empowers beneficiaries for desirable change. In that regard, it puts all stakeholders at the core of the change process. The process of change from research project conceptualization to analysis and policy implications is thus made more understandable and meaningful to community actors (beneficiaries). The chapter features three empirical models from diverse parts of the world. These are Model 1: Photo-voice as a form action research depicting an underused footbridge in Barbados; Model 2: DANIDA Community Water and Sanitation Project, Ghana; and REACH After School Enrichment Program, USA.

    Authors: Solongo Algaa;

    With a population of 3.1 million, Mongolia is situated on a rolling plateau in central eastern Asia, with mountains to the west and north and plains to the south and east. Mongolia has undergone significant social, political and economic transformations during the past century, one outcome of which has been the progressive sedentarisation of many of its nomadic pastoral herders. Internal migration data have been collected using decennial censuses, with questions focussing on lifetime migration, place of residence five years ago and duration of residence. A system of civil registration also collects annual internal migration data. Census data suggest that Mongolia is currently experiencing a period of high migration intensity and, coupled with high efficiency, this has had a significant spatial impact, with flows focussed on the capital city, Ulaanbaatar. In the past two decades, both the intensity and effectiveness of migration have been volatile. This is partly a response to the transformation of the Mongolian economy from a collectivised to an open market system, as well as a significant mining boom. Environmental factors and government policy are also impacting internal migration. Severe winters (dzuds) are triggering out-migration from rural areas to Ulaanbaatar, while policies restricting registration of new migrants in the capital are seeking to stem internal migration flows. Internal migration is exacerbating regional inequalities and leading to significant expansion of the low-density peri-urban districts (ger) on the periphery of Ulaanbaatar. This presents pressing policy challenges for authorities.

    Though the world is rapidly urbanizing, but most of the world’s poorest people live in rural areas. Sound government policies are required to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the context of rural areas. Rural Development Initiatives require developing leaders and networking those leaders to create rural economic vitality. Many social scientists are finding it difficult to develop a rural development model, which is capable of bringing a paradigm shift. Sustainable rural development requires various initiatives in terms of society, economy and use of available natural resources. Further, such initiatives can be successful only when started at the bottom level with the help of local resources. Looking into the aforesaid rural development issues, the present chapter highlights on the role of intellectual capital, which can be considered as a DNA for the business growth for rural development. The intellectual capital has been studied from three perspectives, that is, human, relational and structural, that have been researched through both the conceptual and empirical spectrum.

    Authors: Solongo Algaa;
