    Authors: Valery Karpov;

    An approach to the control of robots behavior based on the emotion and temperament mechanism is proposed. It is shown that these psychological features can be simulated fairly simply. The proposed emotion-based architecture of the robot control system leans upon the Simonov informational theory of emotions, while the specific features of temperament are reduced to a two-parameter model of the excitation-inhibition type. Experiments performed with mobile robots are described. These experiments demonstrate a set of various types of robots' behavior: melancholic, choleric, sanguine, and phlegmatic. All these types were implemented using the so-called temperament controller, which determines a balance between the excitation and inhibition parameters of the robot control system. An FSM-based model of temperament is also proposed that makes it possible to describe the behavior of an individual. Using this model, it is shown that, for performing certain collective behavior tasks, it is useful to have in the group individuals with different behavior so that this behavior also depends on the individual emotions and temperament of robots.

    The problem of control of autonomous motion of a six-legged robot from a support horizontal plane to a ball that can freely move on this plane in an arbitrary direction is solved. Further robot motion aimed at acceleration or deceleration of the ball both in the direction of the longitudinal axis of its body and in the transverse direction ensuring dynamic stability of the robot on the ball is synthesized. Analytical conditions of implementability of the maneuver of climbing a ball are found. Formulas for estimating the maximum ball radius for which climbing of the robot is possible are obtained. Using the developed control algorithms, the robot can climb the ball and, staying on it, move the ball to the desired position in the plane. Robot motion is performed owing to the dry friction forces. Asymptotic stability of the programmed motion of the whole system is provided by a PD controller, which implements necessary step cycles of legs motion and the planned law of body motion. Results of 3D computer simulation of the controlled robot dynamics are discussed.

    The problem of synthesizing trajectories, planning and implementing the motion of a mobile robot is investigated. The statement of the problem is motivated by the need for designing an optimal control of robots with two wheels controlled independently. Mobile robots with this kinematic scheme are called robots with “differential drive.”

    A few indicators characterizing the efficiency of mobile robots in general and walking robots in particular, as well as operational (motion comfort and energy efficiency) and structural (pace) indicators are considered. A weighted quality functional of quality is constructed and its extreme value is sought. An analytical solution is obtained making it possible to perform a multicriteria optimization depending on the significance of a given indicator and on this basis to determine the optimal motion modes and the walking mover parameters.

    A method of constructing bilateral supervisory control over space robots, which ensures the robot’s system functions in the case of large transmission delays of control signals from the ground control center to the local space robot’s control system, is described. The conditions for the stability of manipulating a robot and a sufficiently high level of transparency are found. An original positionforce glove-like interface to control the robot’s manipulation is proposed, which ensures greater transparency of the kinesthetic interaction of the human hand with objects of the external environment than is the case with traditional interfaces in the form of a driving handle.

    Authors: M. Vukobratovic;

    Our aim was to consider interaction control problems from different viewpoints, primarily taking into account practical problems and needs. Basic strategies for controlling the interaction of a robot with the environment are the subject of the paper. The paper also provides a historical perspective on interaction control, summarizing the major achievements in this area for the last 25 years. After this long period of investigation we are now faced with an inevitable change of generation in this field. Many young enthusiastic researchers are focusing now on various attractive issues in human-robot-environment interaction control, especially from the viewpoint of novel disciplines such as artificial intelligence, mechatronics, augmented reality, etc. Considering more complex tasks, the application of force sensors and interaction control techniques is certainly not sufficient to provide the robot with a required degree of autonomy and intelligence. The paper attempts to provide unified theoretical force and position control paradigms considering basic control issues: stability, performance, and robustness. This framework assumes a general dynamic environment and uses an inverse dynamic control strategy to design various controllers for specific force and position stabilization tasks. Stability problems during the dynamic control tasks are also considered in the paper using different stability criteria. The established contact stability theory has been expanded to the control and synthesis. Therefore, one of the basic characteristics of regular bipedal walk of humanoid robots is the maintenance of their dynamic balance during the walk, whereby a decisive role is played by the unpowered degrees of freedom arising at the foot-ground contact. Hence, the role of Zero-Moment Point (ZMP) as an indicator of dynamic balance is indispensable. On the other hand, we are witnesses of the diverse realizations of locomotion systems, from those with human-like feet, aiming to mimic in full the human gait, passive walkers, which practically roll on specially profiled feet, to the footless locomotion systems. It is quite clear that any of these systems can realize a gait (very often such gait is not dynamically balanced), but our present study shows that the performances of such walking systems are essentially different and inapt to meet the requirements that are stated for the humanoids in a human environment. This study points out the indispensability of the regular, fully dynamically balanced gait for the simultaneous realization of locomotion-manipulation activities, as well as for the walk in an unstructured environment.

    This paper presents a method for configuring the motion planning system of an omniwheeled mobile robot with a differential drive. A simulation program that models the horizontal movement of the robot is described. This simulation program is used to select the optimal parameters for the differential drive control algorithm. Then, the motion planning system is tested on a real robot, which is called RB-2, to adjust the parameters selected. This approach allows the control algorithm to be tuned efficiently and effectively, minimizing the number of its test runs on the physical robot.

    Multilink robots that simulate the motion of snakes and worms are considered. The motion is a result of the interaction with a supporting surface when the configuration of the robot is changed. Supervisor control algorithms are proposed for which a user (an operator) controls the motion velocity and direction, while the robot configuration that implements the desired motion is changed automatically. Controlled motions of the considered robots were simulated based on their dynamic models. The motions that simulated movements of snakes and worms are compared. Robots of this type can be used as mobile robots.

    Authors: Valery Karpov;

    Authors: M. Vukobratovic;

    The problem of motion design of a six-legged robot with the help of a ball rolling on a horizontal support plane is investigated. The robot motion is synthesized in order to accelerate or decelerate the ball in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the body and to provide a dynamic stability of the robot on the ball. It is executed with the help of dry friction forces. The motion of the body and legs is executed by imposing servoconstraints in the form of adaptive step cycles of legs and the required geometrical structure of body motion. Asymptotically stable program motion of legs with respect to the body and the entire system is provided by a PD-controller. The results of 3D computer simulation of the controlled robot dynamics are presented.

    Authors: S. A. Bashkirov;
